most of you seen the id tech 5 demo. it was part of their new IP "Rage"

So far, the environments, characters and vehicles are looking great, not to mention the animation and over all art direction.

its defiantly an improvement but to be honest its getting old on how the saturation of ID games are. there almost no color to this. i guess I am just picky but the lack of colors to me doesn't look good.

sure games do call of it (gears of war) even though it did have some colors to it, i guess im just saying that its not to colorful.

Edit* just watched it again, it does seem to have color, what im trying to say is its like theres a brown filter on everything like you put it on a camera lens then filmed the movie.

lol, if you watch carefully you will see it was captured from a large screen that was playing the actual video, even the sound is echoing.

There's also two videos available over at GameTrailers.com where Carmack talks about the technology behind Tech 5. A real geek-fest, and for some reason it kind of arouses me..

· Carmack Tech 5 Developer Walthrough Part 1 (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/23177.html)
· Carmack Tech 5 Developer Walthrough Part 2 (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/23178.html)

Now I just want to see part 3 where the tools are shown..

hehe no i can tell it was on a screen but the actual video is browned out. which is a style that ID seems to have going.

yes, that is most likely their post process. i think its brown because the level they are showing is like a desert type area. but i get what you are saying.

The tech videos are worth a look...this is moving more towards painting environment on the fly in an editor....amazing. I have no idea how they are doing it but honestly they are approaching this the right way...clear the technical issues and let the artists go to town with a blank canvas. The issues of porting from PS3, XBox360 and PC...even Mac...is equally amazing. so much time, effort and money is spent porting things and then you have different versions of the game...it's a waste if you can centralize this a bit. I've had projects do this well from the beginning but you still end up with having to rework some things...if they can eliminate that and just focus on one vision of the game the better.

Honestly, I was blown away especially skipping to the last video where he actually cracks the editor open and shows how they painted the environments...damn. Unreal should watch out...these things are always better on show than when you actually start to build with them, but this looks pretty damn good.

Looked like he was shifting different lens or filters for the light in the town level at the end of the last video...more sepia, straight forward lighting, then blowing it out...crazy cool stuff.
