hey guys, since this mini challenge is almost over, I would like to hear your thoughts for the next mini?

Things to remember:
- It has to be extremely easy
- The polycount can only be 500 polies max
- The topic should work with concept art too

My ideas so far:think:

Cute Pets
Extraordinary Crates
The Weapon
...

If you have any other ideas, post them here:)

My vote goes for little goblins, yeah type we all know and love. The cool thing is they come in all shapes, sizes, sexes, and colors and there cool as hell. It would be cool to see different artist’s interpretations on the subject matter; it would make for some dynamic entries.:)

I am liking the little green goblinstoo. There is soo much reference out there, this would surely make things easier.

Although, cute pets is interesting too:)

Goblins are cool, but there is an interesting monster in DnD that could also be interesting. Quasi Elementals. Basically, they are little gremlins with elemental powers. They can be ice, fire, lava, earth, vegetation, air, magic, water, wood, metal, undead, mist, lightning, flesh, zombie (pieces put together), mechanical, etc..

Could be fun.

As the topic work for the concept contest too.
I have a thing that i would do since a long time. but it wil depend of the weather and where you live :D

Infact the idea would be to take in picture a Cloud that particulary like and immagine a concept with it. Clouds are very nice to develope the imagination we have.

So i share the idea, you can use as you want ;)

A few ideas:

-a weapon (hand held, thrown or shot)
-a better mouse trap
-in a bottle (ship, city, person, etc.)...just the them to contain the size
-high tech pocket gizmo (ie laser bottle opener)...something that everyone will have to have in the near future
-mutated insects (still smallish)
-alien animals (smallish)
-futuristic military helmet/uniform (helmet might be better to limit the scope)
-concept car/motorcycle

Hum..

+ Elemental entity
+ RTS unit or building
+ New race or new mob for World of Warcraft (and to be done in the cartoony style that wow has, including the texture)
+ pickup / powerup

I really like the goblin, gremlin, final fantasy, and rts unit, but these seem a little hard for a 1 week mini challenge. Characters of any kind could take a bit of time. For this reason, I kind of like these better:

- Brian's mutated insect (it can be anything, so inaccurate proportions and such cannot effect the final piece.. because anything goes here)
- Pickup / powerup is cool too, but another site recently did this one.
- Brian's and Fred's The Weapon, hand held, thrown or shot but no siege weapons or anything you can't carry.
- Control panel. An activation switch that causes something. It can be put on a wall, on the floor, or be suspended in mid-air (antigrav).

Just my two cents:cool:

Just plugin' in that the current mini challenge has been 2 weeks. Which does give more time for characters. I don't see how an RTS game unit / building should take more than 2 weeks, although i do see how doing a full character in that time can be tough.

As it is, i'm really doing the current mini (remote robot) as if it was a character, so i do think it's doable.

My big problem with "final fantasy" characters is that, although i do like anime and manga, i completely suck at that type of japanese/cartoony visual, and i'm sure a lot of people find that more difficult than, say, a regular non-anime character.

Coolest Mr. Potato.... or Mr. Potato Action Figure :)

The WOW inspired new race seems like a cool idea as well and given the specs should take no one more that and allotted comp time. Especially since there would be no need to build any highpoly stuff, just mesh and textures!

Bare in mind, mini comps will run simultaneously alongside main comps. Creating two characters could pose a problem for some.

An object, or tiny thing would be really cool. Brian's small insect or pet alien animal (we could make it a D&D familiar [small pet that gives master powers]), or marcus's gremlin/goblin/quasi elemental could be interesting.

What happened to the real comps :(

Another main comp will start in under two weeks. A new addition is being programmed into the system... just need a little more time.

Hopefully, brian will survive the wait:D I know he loves waiting:D

"Brian's small insect or pet alien animal" - i like that idea, specially the insect part. In general i just like the idea of making small things. it's fun.

Antimagic

A D&D Familiar sounds cool, but it might be too many options available for it. Insects, brownies, pseudo dragons, small animals = too many.

Small alien animal pet or the gremlins is the way to go!

Gavin

A D&D style familiar would be awesome.

What about mutant animals like in Impossible Creatures (lobster tigers, zebras with wings, etc.) or is that too complicated?

Or maybe, "Frankenstein's Rejects"...could be a severed hand that can move around (Thing or Army of Darkness), small "cute" monsters, etc.

You sound like you're going to be competting in the next one gav?

Antimagic
08-17-2007, 04:10 PM
Yeah Gavin! Ok, that's it, my final vote goes to small cute monsters. This would incorporate the hilarious frankenstein rejects and this would also incorporate the gremlins and goblins too. Good Idea Gavin!

Fred, so when do we start?:D

Gavin

Don: Mayyyyybe  I've got some stuff I have to do for 3D Total first, but I may be able to spare some time for the mini challenge.

i like the idea of D&D familiars, but then again cute monsters or Future weapons would do me just fine too.

The cute monsters sound fun. It would be different than the inorganic mini comp that is still on now. Could be a nice change of pace.
