Just when you thought you have seen it all someone proves you wrong.

hey man... if that's his decision then go him and right on to his family for respecting his wishes.

Yeah, I think it is actually a bit less morbid.
I was at my granmothers removal (wake in US I guess, this is what we call the house gathering after) and it was my first (my first funeral and death of a close family member too, very very difficult for me, she practically raised me) and I didn't know what to expect from a removal, had no idea what happens during it. Was really unpleasantly surprised to see it is an open casket affair...wasn't prepared for it and lots of people gawping and talking about which of children looks like her most was just...distressing. I just felt like 'this isn't a goddamn museum', y'know? Everybody works through the pain in their own way I guess.
Judging by the picture in that article...it kinda looks like he isn't gone at all (which would help people who have faith in those kinds of things I guess). I wouldn't do it myself, but fair play to him. I'm also pretty fascinated as to how embalmers managed to do it...

What would be crazy if the person who killed him drove by and tried to kill him again.
Well it's his last wish, you have to respect it I guess. But I looks like a Madame
Tussauds puppet. It gives me the creeps.

I've actually heard about a guys wake where he was lounging in his lazy-boy holding a beer and a bag of chips. Also wearing full Pittsburgh Steelers gear while an old steelers game was looped on a TV in front of him. I thought that was strange... Everyone would come in and see him and say "Oh, he looks just like I always remembered him." but I guess it was what he wanted.

LOL @ Lamont. :p
Each to their own I guess. It doesn't make much sense to me, perhaps it's just the way my mind works, but to 'set someone up' as thought they're still alive, like this guy from San Juan or the guy in the lazy-boy.
I wouldn't think that doing this would help in the grieving process and allow the people involved to accept that the person has passed away. But yeah people do deal with death in different ways.
