WoW O_O! I dunno what to say....
Congrats to Chris89 and Draxxuss!! I knew as soon as I saw Chris's I knew it was going to be first, such stellar work on that one. Everything came together so nicely.
I was hoping to place but I didn't expect anywhere near the amount of votes I got so thank you everyone so much! It means so much to me to finally have a colored in star next to my name :D.
And congrats to Draxxuss on third. Your work and comments helped out so many people. I know I used your basemesh so Thank you so much and congrats.
It's amazing how close everyone else was. The amount of votes for people are pretty much neck and neck no so many entries. There was just such an awesome turn out I can understand why there was such a problem with getting a consensus :P.
Also thanks to ThatDon and FredH for hosting and completing this comp, it was a blast. I only hope I will have the time to join up on the next one :D.

Congrats to everyone, and especially the top3! Great job, and I'm looking forward to the next comp :thumb:
Just a question, what's the difference between "votes" "and total points?"
EDIT: Now I can finally say that I really liked bokkie his sackboy!

Fred can correct me if I am wrong, but I think votes are the number of times someone voted for you in any position. But it goes down as:
first = 3 points
second = 2 points
third = 1 point
So for instance you for 43 votes, but those people might have put you as a solid 3rd place each time, while others fluctuated around a bit going between 1st and 2nd (which you got a couple of those too obviously :P). Hope that's right and clears it up.

Great work all. As i said before, it's a shame that some people couldn't finish their final entries for whatever reason - Christmas time can get so busy. The feedback from everyone was awesome. Such a friendly community.
I look forward to the next mini challenge.

ah well i guess it cant hurt
i had some troubles with the uving it was orginally going to be a costume that a generic sackboy could wear. I ran out of tri's very quick though and really wanted to get the chest plate mutation to flow smoothly into the arm. The texture held up fairly well at 512 it would of looked cleaner with larger sack detail. Oh and pose was tricky a oversized sword and head meant it was very limited. Ah well i hope you like :)
http://i42.tinypic.com/11l0hf8.jpg
snipergen: i luv the final image the enviroment has that hint of oddworld magic
Eclipse: i hope you import that into gears or ut3 :p
Mrpealzildjian:'s gary busey cracked me up
Meg: i can picture you character in the game sitting on a tree with springy branches letting naruto, sasuke and sakura do all the work :p
ploon: im so impressed with the tree and how clean the normals are.
Draxxus: I think you model looks better then the ones in game dont tell sony though and your nomal map tutorial was so helpful not to mention the base mesh :)
Beff jaxster: You finished so quick my favorite bit was the helmet opening up and showing tony stark with a massive tash.
lfs: what can i say perfect execution, i would of luved to see a slowmo kill dive frame by frame like chris89.
Stormrider: Great idea and that a brillant likeness of scrat on his head.
renderdevil: so clean and the name is perfect
Andrei313: I cant believe how many you made and all to such a high quality. whats the plans for the other ones?.
Autospysoldier: Hehe the eyes rules it would be great to see the evil clown next to him.
Plainjammy: there are tons of levels of mirrors edge on little big planet its a shame we cant import characters in.
Wevlin: That scarf is too kool especially with the physics engine in little big. nice clean modelling and that freehanded tablet design works well.
bertmac: that pose makes me laugh so much it looks like he has be eatten by a shark a similar size to himself and punched and kicked out. In a gormless little big fashion.
Cris89: That frame by frame pic rules. ilike the way you got across the weight of his head. The helmet is so detailed and looks like its made of the materials and your whole model has such a high texture quality. my favorite bit is the thick rubbery gloves and boots.
Animsen a risky design because he is a similar shape in the film but now when i see it finished it works.
Ayen: The 1st time i saw this i thought of harlequin off batman but now when i look a little closer it has a lot of little nice details. The sticking on the hat is great and the bump map really does look like it has a normal map. My favorit bit is that checked textures darker areas that lines up directly with the eye.
Oreokooky: insacktor gadget its perfect but now i have the song stuck in my head.
HecM: That looks like you can alrady buy it on the playstation shop, congrats man
spydrmn86x: There is no problems i can see i just dont know the character that well. Still 5stars on the build.
Maxh: Nightstalkers woo i wish they did more with that franchise. Like an animated series or a devil may kinda game im notsure where it fits but i know it has a place in nextgen somewhere.
fredH: woah your site is so inspiring and no wonder the terminator model is clean and detailed. That big beefy shoulder belt rules.
Kexan: Dante the gunslinger nice i really like the zip hangle as a pentagram and the bullets shells being thrown everywhere are class.
Mohawkd_zombie: The legend lives on and the cigar really pulls off the personality.
Barbeaulex: woah the king returns the cloth on his coat is perfect how did you make that. Plu im so glad you added a tray and a buger to the model :p.
roofie: im quite confused but luv the cardboard effect.
Uniform_october: i remember that game, creating the characters button nose with a button is genius.
Dysfunctional: he looks badass in the greyed wireframe one. whne you add the texture he just looks like good reliable gordan freeman.
pandOr: he's from windwaker right? nice and clean build those lightmaps look perfect.
Samahain: Some had to mae him, thank you. you should give him a rig he needs an action pose.
Pedro Jatoba: uhoh addictive song number 2, the modeling is spot on. It would of looked so much better with a multiply of a photo for the texture. I hope that made sense.
Styx: what can i say tons of detail and looked great in ut3 XD
Guns of the patriots: I cant see anything wrong, it might stand out a bit more with a dramatic pose and background.
blitzblaster: hehe that little curl of hair on his forhead sells it all. With the normal map did you adjust the contrast they look pretty blured im sure if you tweaked them the details would standout a lot more.
Yozora: i dont really know the character i thought it was a dragonball inspiration but im sure your dead on after seeing you entry for the wow deathnights comp.
Bookie: such high quality i've been a fan from the start.
shakedown: go lara go lara. Thats the most detailed gun i've seen on a 512 character. I cant see a way to improve it so your spot on.
Dedji: Sackbuster he would look so kool posed or a ghost being pulled into the trap. Overal i like it keep it up.
cdb-art: Im a big bleach fan and you nailed Kenpachi XD
Hito: Woah so detailed and you uv's are jaw dropping.
CowboyOrange: The belt slant is kool and he looks shocke
zzzbye: The body is so detailed but the head need a bit more uv space.
Blenderhead: Hellboy woo, i like the character but im confused by the colourful horns the hand and the gun looks ace.
Extol: What can i say that model has made up for the last film. :D. Oh and those cobwebs, whip and base make it 10times as good. stiching the sleave of the jacket to the sackboys hand is a nice touch :p <i know i put you at the end but my list isnt in any order>
well thats all of them.. if i missed one please dont hunt me down and kill me. Just say and i'll be glad to give you comments.
congrats to all. ^^
i was very bussy the last day in 08, so i cant work more on my sackboy.
but 3 days ago i played the first time "little big planet", its the funnyst game i played the last months. ^^
@jolo88
lol, fallout sackboy in ut. XD

Hey thanks jolo88!
I like the work you did on your Sackboy but I feel there are areas it can still be pushed. The biggest is with the presentation. The lighting in your final renders seems to hind a lot of your work. It's pretty dark and makes it hard to see the detailing you did on things like the arm. Also I think you could have pushed him a little more sackboy. I know this is hard to do with the character you chose but I think it can be done. A nice touch would have been to change the teeth on his chest to either stiches or a zipper (if you wanted it to be able to open). Also just overlay some fabric normals for the flesh you do see. Nothing to big and distracting because you want to see that detail work, but something would help, nice and subtle. I noticed you did put a weave on the head, but it's hard to see in the renders, the only shot it comes through in is the back view and that has an overlay of the wireframe. For the armor maybe you could take up the specular on some points and kinda grime it up a tad so that it looks unique? I see the details on your map, but they don't come through well on your renders (might be the lighting/angles). For the eyes, I like what you did, the buttons look cool. but maybe bring the holes and thread a little closer to the center?
Just some ideas and thoughts. I think you did a good job getting everything in the polycount and nice work with figuring out how to do the sword and sack standing :P. I think what you have is a really nice start, just maybe take the extra time to push it a little bit more :D.
jolo88
01-07-2009, 05:00 PM
Woah thanx eclipse you gave me lots to work on. The lighting is my weakest area and i think ithe lack of spec map doesnt help. Thats a great idea to use the zip handle :p. Yeh your right about the button i think i got a little carried away with gradients and forgot about scale.
i did wonder if i could of just overlay the armor on top of the sack areas because most arent visible.
I'll keep working at it, im sure these improvements will help it a lot. Thanx eclipse

Hey jolo88
Thanx for your feedback! It must have taken you ages to write all of that!
I agree with what eclipse already said! I think you have done a great job on the character but your presentation does not show him off enough! I like the shot where he is sitting on his sword....It shows some profile....details on the arm....hand...etc. so personally I would have liked to see that image bigger!.. :D ...Ahhh but these things are so personal and thats just mho!
Still think great job!:thumb:
