Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) markets the PlayStation® family of products and develops, publishes, markets, and distributes software for the PS one* console, PlayStation®2, PlayStation®3, and the PlayStation Portable (PSP*) computer entertainment systems. PlayStation®Network is an emergent entertainment network delivering innovative content and community to a worldwide audience, and the newest division of SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment Amercia).
We are currently seeking a Maya generalist to develop content for PlayStation®Home, a high definition, 3D, social gaming service set to revolutionize the entertainment world.
Principle Duties / Responsibilities:
Create dynamic lighting setup and color per vertex generation for environments.
Manage the database of the 3D art assets to facilitate art production pipeline effectiveness and maintain ease in sharing, updating, and transferring assets across PlayStation®Home regions.
Create, clean, and optimize new and existing spaces within the world of PlayStation®Home. These tasks include, but are not limited to: troubleshooting collision issues, creating LODs, optimizing pre-existing assets, creation and manipulation of particle effects, assembling level and object assets, and creating new environments and game assets for use in PlayStation®Home.
Liaises with first and third parties to evangelize best practices for art production in PlayStation®Home.
Contribute innovative solutions to art pipeline optimization.
Required Knowledge / Skills:
Create original polygonal organic, architecture and humanoid models. Generate photo-realistic textures and efficient UV-mapping. Use dynamic lighting setup, color per vertex generation through strategic placement of lights or manual adjustment. Intimately knows Maya and Photoshop. Must contribute innovative and original ideas within the technical parameters of PlayStation®Home production.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and perform a variety of assignments, often changing requirements on short notice. Must modify plans when necessary to meet goals, solve production problems and resolve assets creation bottleneck, and thoroughly accomplish tasks. Must work well without close supervision and achieve goals. Must establish priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks, and stay abreast of changing situations to identify problems and opportunities.
Excellent intrapersonal skills - Friendliness, diplomacy, and imperturbability are a must. Understanding of the day-to-day needs and emotions of gamers is crucial. Make good, timely decisions in fast-paced situations. It is imperative to show respect for individuals in all situations, build effective working relationships inside and outside the work group and use the utmost professionalism with sub-ordinates, peers and executives. Must solve routine problems effectively and react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround. Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically through multiple groups a must.
Demonstrate traditional art skills, including a strong grasp of color, scale, proportion and lighting. Show examples of models and texture maps for both architectural and natural environments. Exhibit experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments. Include wireframe renders of objects, environments, characters. Include diffuse, normal, and specular texture maps.
Strong understanding of traditional, next generation best modeling and texturing practices using Maya7.0-8.5, ZBrush 2 or 3, and BodyPaint. A working knowledge of 3D Studio Max v9 is a significant plus.
Strong oral and written communication skills as well as concise correspondence required.
Required Experience / Education:
2 year experiences, preferably in the game industry
A degree from a four-year college (i.e., BA, BS)
Preferred Experience / Education:
3-5 years experience, preferably in the game industry
A post-graduate degree from a four-year college (i.e., MA, MS, Ph.D.)
