Hello everyone,

My name is Jill Chiang a.k.a. Mamasan (oh, what I'm doing here ). I am a freelance girlfriend and a full-time gold digger who know nothing about computer graphic. But now, I'm here following an irresistible smell of 10k cash prize and the hard-to-find PS3s. This is the real "War Of The Artist World"!

But, hmm, I'll let you guys go ahead first cuz I've made a (very) strong decision to join the DOMINANCE WAR VII on 2012 (as 7 is my lucky number). I hope this war reach a million buck prize and a 50% share of Sony company's annual profit, lol. Now you know I go so far and more advance !?! :lucky:

So, good luck you guys! I need to practice more before I join this awesome battle field. Five years won't take long  . . . Please . . . wait . . . for . . . me.

my name is cory robinson and i'm a 26 year old game artist currently working at Iron Lore Entertainment in Massachusetts, USA.

i'm fairly green to this industry, only being in it for 1 year and a month. i was brought on-board at the end of production for Titan Quest where i was able to squeak in a single sword asset and helped with other menial tasks. later, i contributed to Titan Quest's expansion, Immortal Throne with a variety of environment assets. originally, i'm from Arizona, USA and attended the Art Institute of Phoenix where i had obtained my Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Game Art and Design.

i feel my strongest abilities are in digital painting and creative thinking. currently, my interest is focused in texture artwork. i'm enjoying learning and utilizing next-generation (wee! buzzword) texture technology and techniques in creating my game artwork.

i want to meet you. i look forward to just meeting other game artists/gamers that have similar interests but more importantly people i can learn from and hopefully help out as well. so, it's a pleasure to meet and help contribute this new community here.

ps. feel free to send me funny URLs throughout my workday, PM me for my IM :)

JesseMoody
06-03-2007, 04:17 AM
Hey Guys,

The names Jesse Moody. 26 years old about to turn 27. I'm living in a small ass town in Maine now.

Quick history. Played the original DOS based C&C and Quake and decided that was when I wanted to make games. Graduated from High School, went to school for computer science.

Decided programming wasn't what I wanted to do since it wasn't very artistic and looked for art schools. Couldn't afford any so I joined the US Navy. Spent 4 years in doing everything from anti-terrorism / smuggling operations, All-Navy Baseball and 2 tours to the Middle East.

Got out of the navy at the end of my enlistment, enrolled at AI-San Diego for Game Art. Ended up teaching myself for the most part. Graduated in March of this year and had a job 1 week after graduation.

Now I'm working at Liquid Development as a 3D Artist and trying to help give back to the community with UE3 tutorials and some other stuff I'm working on.

Wow did I just type all that? Oh well...

Hi I'm Lise

I'm 18 years old and live in Holland (no, I do not smoke weed) :)
And a wize person once told me that I'm a girl.

I'm not really an interesting person, but I'll tell you anyway.
Drawing is just my hobby, that explains why I'm not that busy with it cos I don't have somthing pushing me to do something. I'm allways late with stuff and when it's finished I come up with somthing that (to me) is better... :inocent:

right now I've just finished my high school, and next year I'll be a student in amsterdam (I still won't smoke weed). I'll be studying Museology, which is not as dusty as is sounds. It's management of Musea and i want to specialize in the part where I hold the collection. (is that how to say it?)
If all goes well I'd love to end up somewhere in a nice museum or auction house, or perhaps gallery.

Anyway I'm not really sure of what i can do on this forum, but I hope to learn how to digitally paint, cos I swear that program hates me.

Kisses Liz:approve:

06-18-2007, 07:26 PM
Hey, I'm a long time poster, first time for this Thread. My name is DJ, but my people, you can call me BiG ToE.

This game art thing all started out for me awhile back. I was sitting on the couch playing video games, might have been excite bike, or double dragon, either way, I was winning, it's what I do. Then I turn off the TV. Years later, I'm watching TV again and see a commercial for an art school. It says, stop playing games and make them, or if you can play a game, you can make a game. Yeah right. Now two degree later, I'm stuck as a freelance artist, not even doing game art. It's more like photo-retouching, and image enlarging. Plus, I don't really get paid, everyone who comes to me for work, is family. I got a large family and they all want what they need, for free.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

well I guess I should introduce myself. Well I am BuroKun (Josh Bangs). I am a guy who has been learning 3D for several years now, on his own. Its been a blast, but also really annoying from time to time (UV mapping GAH!). I am 17 and have been out of school for about a year now. I have been looking at some collages, but first I need a job. so anyway, I love 3D game art yoZ! and I wish to learn all there is to know about the world of making next-gen game material! yay! well that is pretty much it. I would like to have a small project to work on, so I can increase my skillz (or lack there of), But I haven't really found much. so ya.......thats......it..............I think................ya.....ya okay I will shut up now. :thumb:

Edit: Oh...I forgot, I live in Pea Ridge AR......and this state isn't big on games it seems. I am possibly the only one that I know of in my, or other towns around here that have this type of interest....so that kind sucks, but eh its okay.

Hi all.

My name is Rob Santa. Some of you might know me as "cookepuss", formerly of CG Chat.

I'm a self-employed multimedia designer from New York. I'm 33 years old and have been doing CG for about 18 years now. My specialty is high poly character and environmental work, though I have been known to dip a toe in low poly waters over the years.

My CG tools of choice include Cinema4D for all of my primary modeling, BodyPaint3D and Photoshop for my texturing, Silo2/ZBrush for my detail sculpting, and AfterEffects for my compositing.

In my spare time, I've been working on a short film called "extraOrdinary: Hellborne".

Glad to be here. :)

Can't believe Ive only just found this forum.... tut tut my lazy searching... Looking good so far, FredH leading the way, some great artists investing time as Mods, :) quality stuff.

Hi All I'm Tom Pickard, some people may recognize my old user name from various forums around the interweb, As I was Formerly named Baaah888, Well its time for a change as that name is based on an old story and no longer that fresh in my aging mind :P So reborn, stronger, more experienced and a little more Crazy I have re branded myself as LowRez.....

Im a 3d artist working at the Creative Assembly in Horsham UK, (a Sega owned studio)

Im working on the Empire Total War game, And have been for just over a year, some of you may have noticed it announced at Leipzig, Im working on the new Campign map which no pics have been shown of yet so I cant actually say to anyone "look at this I made that"

Following Cookes example, I primarily use 3dsmax and Photoshop, although I am dabling in other packages to keep my mind fresh :)

So..... Hi

I always enjoy reading about GameArtisans' new members. Although I don't post in this thread myself, I am always watching and reading it:thumb:

About GA being hidden... GA is still in it's infancy stage. There are always bugs to be fixed and layouts to be designed or redesigned. Sometimes, the site its self needs to be shut down for a day or two while major problems get fixed or new features get implemented. For this reason, I haven't been inclined to try and spread the word out by other means except for word of mouth. Rest assured, when all these little kinks and things are fixed, I'll look into other means to spread the word:)

This said, GA will probably shut down this weekend as another upgrade comes online:inocent:

To everyone who posted in this thread, it has been great getting to know you all!:approve: Hope to see some more stories and names!

Yeah, I know it's wierd to change Nicks when you've been around a fair while, (about 5 years now at CGchat and Cgtalk etc) But Ive been using the LowRez nick for ages in games and on non CG forums, so thought it was the right time to make the change while I still could... :)

Good to hear. Even without the big push, you guys seem to have a great energy and dynamic. For being open less than a year, you've got a good traffic flow and talented crowd. Nice to see.

As far as the weekend closure goes, good to know. At least we're not caught off guard. Sites like this are complicated beasts. The more you can do to make things run smoothly the better.

Hi GA.Org,

Sinz here 26 years old born in Brooklyn moved to Queens, the name came from being raised as a catholic turned lost soul turned believer we all sin so why not remind everyone with an SN? Though, I rather not bring up religious matters that's how wars are started.

I am an inspired 3D Artist of PolyCount where I was born & raised to become a 3D Game Artist. I have learned the ways of the force from the almighty green machine all credit goes to her.

I want to become an industry professional someday though my days are numbered & feel it will never happen. I have had experiences that have allowed me to get hired as a contract artist though none have proven to become fulltime positions. I would love to get a full-time position anywhere in the world So hire me a.s.a.p. !

Nice to meet everyone!
Let's kick some mini comp ass..

Days numbered? I'm 33 and have heard of people much older than me getting their start in the game industry. Your days aren't numbered and neither are mine. I'd probably have to crawl under a rock if that ever came to pass. :) It's only too late when you're 72 inches down the Y.

Anyway, I've hogged this page enough.

Damn, well I was in on the beta for this forum but I haven't gone much farther then that. Been busy with a lot of personal project, time destroying stuff but it seems like there should be a break in that storm. So it seems anyways. I want to get in on one of these mini or full blown challenges so we will see what happens in the future. Figured I should drop a line back in on one forum to get my game modeling juices going again.

Hey guys.

Been messing with 3D for years, but never had the time to learn... busy growing up, and all. Graduating public school in the early summer of '06 with little plans for college (might regret it later), my new years resolution of '07 became finally learning to model—and I've just barely made it. Currently enjoying Nevercenter Silo as my application of choice, though mostly because it's affordable and I'm poor.

2007 was an adventure. Immense personal growth. I was less than a month away from starting up a new, ambitious game dev company with two talented highschool peers—business-oriented programmers—but didn't learn fast enough or something, so that all fell through. Nobody's fault, really. Learned a lot about the game creation process (from design to marketing) on the way.

'08 resolution is probably going to be entering the industry; preferably it will involve a move to somewhere far away, like Maryland or Iceland. In the meantime, I work in a small grocery store and hone my skills at home. Having always based my art in 2D should help with texturing, but currently 3D volumes and efficient topology are infinitely more exciting.

Forums and member base look amazing, so I hope to stay.

Hey guys,

My name's Raphael and i come from North Carolina.

Been playing around with 3D since high school when i first was introduced to 3DS Max. After school i went to HPU to get a general collage ed, I majored in Art over there and worked on honing my traditional art skills there. Now I'm currently at piedmont community collage to learn Maya (or at least the basics). (I do a lot of work on the side too though)

I found this site through a friend I met from Siggraph and I'm eager to participate in these challenges and such to improve my skills even more.

Just found this thread....

Heyo heyo, my real name is Mike Kime, and i skirt around the dark corners of the internet as rv_el / "pseudo-pod". I am currently a character artist at Liquid Entertainment (in Los Angeles) doing most of the characters on Rise of the Argonauts for Xbox 360. Infact i've been trying to get them to let me post some of my stuff (i've been dying to show it) here on GA.org - A web site that i've been retardedly slow to coming around too. I suppose that means i've been busy.

But, since the Retro Game Character competition i entered here, i have made GA.org one of the main sites, and a regular place i go to now. And i'm hoping to be present on the boards more. I've actually been around the online game art forums for a long long time doing competitions and what not and I am hoping to get to know more people and support Freds new awesome setup.

Hello all.

Hello everyone, I'm a senior in high school and im joining up as a total beginner in 3D modeling and I hope that I can learn how to to model progressively here. I'm going to try working with Zbrush 3, Modo, and 3D Studio Max 8. So If you know of any good tutorials for a complete beginner thats what I will be using.

Well technically I'm not a complete beginner since I attempted to use Lightwave when I was in like 3rd grade and I did the most basic tutorials when using 3D studio Max 6 about a year about, but as far as modeling goes I don't exactly know how to do much of anything.

I knew game art was what i wanted to do ever since i played zelda ocarina of time. I'm in high school right now(junior) and i basically get all the practice in i can. I've got about a year of max under my belt, and a couple months in zbrush. I'm a pretty good traditional artist, i just need to improve my painting skills which ive never been too good at.

I hope to make lots of new friends here at GA, and have some fun making game art.

My name's Xavier Coelho-Kostolny (don't bother trying to pronounce that) and I've been hanging around GA for a while even though I haven't posted. I post more at CGTalk.

I've been working with various 3D modeling programs and building mostly characters for about four years now, though it's only been in the past year that I've gotten serious enough about it to want a job. I'm going to be using my Dominance War entry as a portfolio piece, so the contest sort of serves a dual purpose for me.

In addition to digital art, I've been using traditional media my entire life. I'm just shy of 21 years old and will actually be having a birthday before DW is over!

Hello everyone,

The name's Dan Patrick, born and raised in the Bay Area, CA. I'm new to the forums, and am eager to compete with some of my fellow SJSU Animation/Illustration colleagues in the upcoming Dominance War! Good luck to everyone participating!

I will probably post some of my other artwork soon (snuck a preview into my avatar), since I am currently putting together my portfolio. Most of my work is 3D (Maya) modeling and texture work, though a mass chunk of our program is traditional drawing. I enjoy both by the truckload and hope to get to know all the community goers here who do the same. :D

So I am Nick, I’m from Texas; no I’m not a cowboy! I drive a car not a horse, I live in Maryland now and am desperately looking for a job.

There are so many talented artists here, so many to learn from and others I can try to help with the knowledge that I posses, little it may be….

I like to focus mainly on character modeling but I love mechanical stuff too, like vehicles. So for the last couple of months I have been busy at work on DECAY, a mod for UT3 it rules, it will be the best Horror game EVER!
Can’t wait for DW3 to start, its going to be SO much FUN!

Hello My name is Josh

Well I'm new to the 3d world, I know I was always interested in it but I kept getting derailed by work and the other parts of my degree. But after a long LONG time I got into my first 3dsmax class and something just clicked. From that point on I have been living in 3dsmax and zbrush kicking out all kinds of fun stuff. (now in the middle of the 2nd 3dsmax class)

So I decided to jump head first into DW3 and try my hand, I don't think I have a chance at winning but just placing would make me happy ^__^. I only have 1 3D class under my belt so I will see what I can do.

From what I gather reading the forums this is the right place to hang out. you all seem very helpful which will only make DW3 that much more fun.

Hello Everyone,

I am *~Eli... my IC handle is usually Hesu, but that is in another world far from here. Although, smile when you see it *nods*

I am a Talent Scout in the industry as well as an avid gamer. (mostly basic text RPG, so... not the fun stuff you guys do mostly...) tho I am venturing out when I can. I also have a small consulting biz on the side, that does business consulting for Independent Game Developers and photographers and musical artists (yes I am a busy girl)

I am ALWAYS looking for Talented Artists for opportunities all over the Galaxy, yes that means world wide *smile* They are almost always Senior and above and unadvertised! heh

I am here to find good talent, but also to enjoy the wonderful art and to learn more about the plight of artists in the game world.

I am very willing to answer questions or help out anyone that may need my expertise, but be sure I will be reaching out for help with referrals of the best talent for the myriad of opportunities that come my way *smile*

Merci all...

I am regularly looking for top artists. Right now World and Level builders, Lead and Senior Environment, UI, modelers, Concept Artists... and hey, we pay good money for referrals that find the ultimate opportunity and say "I do" *smile*

Please pass the word around that I can assist and will assist anyone I am able, and make sure, if anyone is coming to Austin GDC in September... get in touch with me first (I live here so I know all the cool stuffs)

Hey Guys,

My name is Josh Bobillot and I'm 28. I have been doing 3d since 2001, I have a bachelors degree and a certificate in game design and animation. In addition to schooling I have learned a ton on my own, and of course with help from places like this. I do some freelance art and webdesign and work on my Portfolio most of the time. I've worked at a few game companies as a tester, but didn't seem to be making any head way in transitioning over to art departments.

I've kinda taken a detour from games and am working as a software engineer at microsoft at the moment. I'm building up my technical skills, and working on my Portfolio in my spare time. I'm hoping to soon move into something more suited for me, like character design.

DomWar 3 was a blast and is my first comp of many to come. I've been a member of other 3d sites for a while now, usually cgtalk but I go to any web site where I can learn. This is an awsome place and I'm so glad this is here now. I've made it one of my personal goals to get way more involved and not just lurk. I'm hoping to get to know many of you in the near future and make some killer 3d stuff. Drop me a line any time, for questions, chatting what ever, I love making new friends.

Cheers

I want to go to school for art this fall, i just recently graduated and im actually looking for help learning to overcome my biggest challenge in art and thats moving ideas in my head onto paper.
if anyone wanted to help me, maybe tell me ways that they do it or anything would be great.
im also trying to learn to draw the human figure.
im always up for learning new things and i get along well with kind people.

Also, if anyone could tell me why my post was deleted when i gave an answer to a question in the concept W.I.P. section?

Hello everyone,

My name is John Konke. I am freelancer in all things game design. I used to think I wanted to be a programmer, but once all the jobs I had saw my modeling and texturing skills, they told me they'd rather have me there. Hopefully that says something good about my modeling and not bad about my programming. I do lots of 3D art, but I'm not amazing at it like I see in the gallery. I don't have zbrush but have reformatted a partition on my computer several times so I can play with the demo, and eventually I hope to buy it :P.

In the future I plan to lead the overall design in games (hopefully owning my own studio) I figure I'm a bit of a jack of all trades which can help me to attain this ability, because I know enough to get my hands dirty and do a bit of managing as well.

Programmer art ftw!!

Hope to become a good part of the community.
