Hi everyone, was wondering what your technique is for grabbing screens of your models from zbrush/mudbox?
Whats the best way to maximise screen resouloution, and get the best quality from your renders, and are there any tips and tricks floating about I should know about?
Currently I can only get a pretty poor, very aliased image off zbrush, and the rendering quality of mudbox just isn't as good as zbrush.
Help me out whilst sharing your views!!

Well with ZB you gotta get a new screen resolution, not only the deffault one, try a bigger one, then got to rendering and select the best render settin, youre gonna get good results there, tweak the settings there too to get a better and accurate result...
Hope it helped!!!

generally i dont even bother rendering at all, just take a screen grab with half AA on and that seems to come out nice

how do i get my model up full screen, with good resoloution, cus it seems i can only zoom the workable area, which degrades quality?

A couple things I sometimes do.....
Set document size to around 4000 pixels wide, push AA/Half on the right size of the viewport to scale viewport down, turn on antialiasing under rendering tab (1 or 2), and then select suitable material. Maybe press "grab doc" under alpha pallette for a ZDepth image ( to add DOF, or used as an overlay).
Also, consider using different materials to be comped in Photoshop. For example Meats' ambient occlusion shader for AO, the toy plastic for spec, green clay for cavity, maybe a flat color for just color, and a skin shader. Then overlay them in Photoshop. Doesn't compare to Mental Ray or anything, but tends to add a little depth and interest.

thanks for that fattkid, thats a very interesting approach, i'll give that a go with all the layering in PS.

Capture the screen in Mudbox 2009 by pressing Alt+P, you maintain more quality this way. Remember a screenshot is something that would be used for aproval and not as a substitute for a proper render or real time set up.
