it's a shame, just last week, they took the episodes off of veoh.com. I believe we can still watch the latest shippuden shows, but that's it.

I kind of feel sorry for those people who don't know the show. If they watch the first 20 episodes... they won't be able to stop watching it until episode 160:s Personally, my favorite episode of all time was the pen and paper exam. That was... intense!!!

I've seen episode 1-10...it seemed to drag on a little bit like DBZ...every episode was a cliff-hanger...but hey whatever gets the crowd going, right??

I've started some research and also some sketches. For some reason I'm really inspired by Kim, Hyung-Tae. I'm plying around with some ideas of practicing some digital illustrative painting with super sexy elaborate versions of the characters...

I'm also pondering just doing something completely stylized, not anime-influenced at all. It would be more difficult to take this route, but I'll see where some concepts take me. If anything I'll be getting some practice in, I've been meaning to do some serious painting anyway.

Granted I barely know the show...but I guess we'll see what happens! :thumb:

I was considering creating a Naruto-esque character based on my appearance and traits. I will draw some concepts and share tomorrow. My other idea, since I just watched the first 5 episodes tonight was doing something with this nine tailed fox living inside Naruto.

Awesome comp man! Dig Naruto, one of the best manga though the anime has parts that drags too long (filler episodes).

Taehoon: you might want to look into Sasori, he is a puppet master and a puppet himself. You could do alot with that. And I may not have spelld his name right.


This should be all kinds of cool, adding to my collection of Naruto models, which at the monment is only one (Kakashi), I'm leaning towards Gara, of the Dessert, but I'll wait till Thursday night/Friday to see if he stays dead before I make my final answer.

Taehoon --> He is actually a puppet. The driver is deep inside his back. I know he might look human, but that's the cool part about him. The puppet master was able to make his puppets look almost human. If you did him, you can make him look more puppetish if you wish:) By the way, the person driving this puppet is a little boy with red hair.

CRoLL --> Yes, shippuden would be the teenage characters. They are certainly allowed.

Scjohnson5551 --> There are like 100 characters to choose from. Enemies, main characters, fillers... nope, you can't make up a character for this comp. I hope you can find something that will be ok.

Hey Fred, is it alright to do characters trapped inside other characters?

And in the case of Taehoon, is it ok to do a puppet and not the master, or would I have to do the Master in order to show off the puppet?

in taehoon's case, he could simply do the puppet. It wasn't until much later in the show, that it was revealed that there was actually someone inside there. So yup, creating characters inside characters is fine:)

One thing that might be worth mentioning, that I personally tend to forget even though I've watched every single episode of Naruto fansubbed, is that it doesn't take place hundreds of years ago. It's pretty much set in this time with mobile phones, TV's, cars, trains, etc, etc. It's just that you don't get to see a lot of that normally.

I just got through the first eight and I can't stand this show!..at the beginning of each episode there is like 5 minutes of recap and these "battles" literally last EPISODES with numerous recaps of each minuscule event during each one.

Can anyone recommend an anime like samurai champloo?! I love that one :lucky:

Also it depends on yourself, if you wanna spend more on 2d or 3d, because it probably wont be to easy to beat the Concept artist with a modeling sheet sketch, or a rushed-model with a Completly-finished model

Hi Djinnei, welcome to GA.org:)

To start your entry, you need two things, a title and a 128x128 thumbnail. You can enter your title into the very first text field on top of your entry page, and then hit save. For your thumbnail, you will need to use photoshop and crop your image down to exactly 128 x 128 pixels and then press Save for Web to bring its file size down below 20k. Once you have your image, upload it into your submission form and wait for an admin to approve it. Once it's aproved, you will automatically be given a new thread here (http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20)for 3d or here (http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22)if it's for concept art. When you have your thread, you can begin posting your work in progress right up to the October 15th deadline.

When done, be sure to upload all your final images and hit the button Submit Finals to submit your finals into the system:)

Hey, I have a question. I'm thinking about join the Concept Art Naruto Contest but I'm not sure if my idea is acceptable: create an evil version of Shikamaru.

I'm doubt because the brief says:"Take any one character from the naruto series, and make a slight alteration on him/her. ". I think there may be much difference between the Evil Shikamaru and the original one, but not toooo much difference, it'll still look like him anyway. Well, what do you think?!

Not that I'm an expert or anything, considering I just started this aswell, but mind if I input my advice regarding your dilemma?

As far as an evil Shikamaru, Well for the most part you want to alter the character only slighty, because if you lose the original charm and feel of the character, you've basically made a new character. My suggestion would be sign up anyways. You can get critiqued as you go, and that will help you along. If people find the "Evil" Shika is a little too different, just heed thier advice and change just a little. People on this forum are good for constructive criticism, so I'd give it a go!

BTW, I have another question to add aswell, and that being: Are we allowed to post works-in-progress in terms of thumbnails on our respective threads prior to posting finals? I'd much rather like to get peoples opinions on my work before settling on just one biased thumbnail... rsvp! :D

You are allowed to change your thumbnail as many as possible up until the point you have finalized your work.

xissburg --> That's a tough one, but yes, I think it's possible. It's strange that the naruto series didn't do it, but usually a character in a show always turns evil for a little while. Be it from poison or by some form of a ninjistu, I am surprised it didn't happen yet on naruto. So, feel free to be the frist to try this. As long as people can still recognize your character, you should be fine. Good Luck

Djinnei --> Yup, posting a few thumbs for critique is certainly allowed and encouraged. In big challenges such as this one, thumbnails are actually quite crucial. A bad thumbnail might get your entry overlooked by judges because judges are very busy people:)

I don't recall anything about it, but with the rules saying everything needs to be made from scratch, does this also mean we can't use any of the prefab basemeshes most of us have laying around, for sculpting?

If you have body parts lying around "Arms, Legs, etc." then I don't think it's a problem or big deal but if you have a complete character made and all you did was modify a few things here or there then it would clearly be an issue. So to answer you're question East if you have say a low poly body part that you want to sculpt in Zbrush go right ahead. The irony is you could send more time just sculpting and retopologizing the body part than building it from scratch anyway. I hope that clears a few things up.:)

PS: From what Ive seen things have been going very well for all of the comps but Fred may chime in on this as well if there's issues or new rule sets!;)

go to the page with everyones thumbnails and press the join button (http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/competitions/3/join.html). Then select Game 3D Art. Once in your personal entry page, scroll down and upload all the necessary images. When done uploading your images, scroll down further and press preview (to see how your entry will look) or submit finals to lock in your finals in the system. Warning, you will not be able to update your thumbnail after you submit your finals.
