Hey Hey. Great to see your entering. Hidan is a great character, for those of you that don't know this character you'll see him soon in the anime, as he's only been in the manga so far. Hunter's WIP models look fantastic!!! An artist to watch once he posts some of his work (^___^)

Nice start! How did you handle the ripped clothing in your base mesh? That's always been an issue for me

TryForce - Haha, I know! I was bummed when I saw the contest, if only I had waited a while before starting Itachi :/

(Started a sculpt of itachi a while back, so I had to start fresh with hidan for the contest :()

Chasarsis - Thanks, the base mesh is just a one sided plane.

ThatDon - There wasn't really much work involved up to that point, just importing a base mesh into zbrush and some basic shapes really. Probably on 3 or so hours when all was said and done.


Small update, not TOO much has changed mostly just the material :P

Needed a change of pace, so I got most of the lowpoly done too. But that's boring stuff, so I won't bother posting it for the moment :P

yeh i have seen that update =)

Uhm since you are still doing the highres, i will point a few things infront!

First of all im not sure but i think the knee-feet part should be done in a look of Bandages, not sure now though, probably not.

Give him atleast a few scars on his arms ,stomach, neck and maybe upperbody part. Since you know his partner used to flick him back onto his body again.


cant wait if you will do the white-black version texture. otherwise if not, i cant wait aswell.

Really cool start. Right now...

-The long face, with the completely smoothed cheeks, stands out a bit. Everything around it, including the brows and mouth, has a ton of detail, and then it goes into a long smooth section... Just looks awkward.

-Keep playing with the cloth, especially on the sleeves. You can go a lot sharper and stronger with it and it'll probably look really great.

-Double check anatomy, abs seem off, among a few other little things.

Lookin' solid Hntr, I really dig your style. You might double check the direction of the striations on the chest muscles(where they plug into the arm) you could get a little clearer over lap and go biceps -> pecs -> shoulder ... very nice though:thumb: This should be great:D

Good start. I see that you started with a public base mesh posted by another artist. It is already well proportioned but try to break these a little bit, I still can identify the mesh. No bad feelings here, just try to make it your own.

to see a slimmer "FF:AC" face/nose on this one :D

Thanks for all the critique everyone! I'll do my best to address everything mentioned.

Been away the last few days, so no update. However I decided to do a little bit of redesigning. Everyone else was so I felt left out :P

Yeah, this new design is really cool. Sculpt is looking a lot better around the face, too. Pecs look kinda baloonish and weird, though, and overall his torso is missing some of the forms that were cool in your concept.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Been slacking on this, and haven't felt like sculpting much. So I did up the low poly instead.

Still have around 1200 tris left to work with, so I'm looking to add some accessories to beef out his silhouette. Maybe some "akuma" beads or an aboriginal looking skull necklace or something, any ideas would be great!

Anyway, here's a picture: Normals and messy and the sculpt isn't done. But I needed an update :P

Woah, mind if you share how you did the clothes? Did you sculpt the general forms then pinch the edge to accentuate it? Could use some tips as I am having a headache getting the cloth done right. Anyway looks solid so far! The nose does seems a little big?

This is still looking really incredible. I'd widen the hips just a bit, you're still missing that arc in the outline of his torso from the concept.

(Hey yung, I don't know how he did it, but using the flatten tool set to pull height like the standard brush (the little slider under it set to zero) and a soft alpha might help.

Alternatively, try what Per shows here, and just use oldfashioned standard and smooth:

Hey HntrLuc, Hidans lookin' good! I was going to do him, but after seeing this, I don't know that I could do better, probably not. Anyway, I think these are the colors they are planning to use for Hidan and his gear. I didn't know if you had seen these or not. Use them or not its your choice. Can't wait to see some texture action. Keep it up!

Yung - The way SupRore mentioned works good. Which is more or less what I follow, I find it helps too if I use the alpha that looks kinda like a boob. (third row down, tenth one over in zbrush 3)

SupRore - Thanks, I'll probably leave the sculpt as is and try and fix the outline with his posing. But Ill try widening the hips to see how that looks.

ALW-DaSilva - haha thanks, I just use xnormal for exporting normal maps. No special tricks :P

typhus 22/ that don - Lol, ok I'll pass on the beads then, jeez :P

Wasn't really feeling Hidan, so I've been a total bum on this.

Now I'm thinking I might go with a teen kakashi + pakkun instead.

I'm hoping the hair and scar will be enough to show who he is. I realize at this point it doesn't look much like him though.

Anyway, I was kinda sad I haven't seen any pakkuns on here so far. So I thought it would be fun to do a teen kakashi, walking pakkun.

Thanks Mike! I just wasn't very happy with him, so it was making it really hard to finish.
So I felt like a fresh start might do the trick.

nice new model man but its a shame u didnt finish up hidan. the whole reason i picked my character was because i was inspired by u picking another oddball character rather then the well known ones. still all in all im betting the new one will be wildly amazing. cya!

I think the scar will be fine once it has color on it, most scars don't really pop out from the skin too far anyway.

Got some hairs done. Not entirely sure how this'll turn out, but I'm planning on doing geometry with some alphas coming off here and there to soften things up.

Hair's a bit different from traditional design, but I'm hoping it's still recognizable enough:

The new model is looking good, though I must say I wasn't convinced when he was first bald lol. But it's definitely shaping up nicely. You better start doing lowpoly, there's less then two weeks left.
