This would be considered a team. You can only use concept art from a person who makes it specifically for this event. Additionally, you must write your friend's name in your final notes, or stick your friend's name on top of the concept sheet.

Edit: Read below. In brief, concept artists don't count as a team member.

For last year's Dominance War, over at polycount gauss and Ninjas (I think a few others as well) offered to help people by doing some concepts for them.
So we can't have that sort of business happening this year? Just wanted to confirm before I go off to hassle gauss for a bad ass concept.
I know I could team up with gauss, but then he wouldn't be able to do any concepts for anyone else like last year.

yes, you can have him create your concepts. As long as you ...

1. Don't have another partner involved. This would total 3 and this is not allowed.

2. Put guass in your final notes or have him put his info on his concept sheet.

That's it.

Good Luck

I know you just answered it, but what if I team up with someone who just like me can't draw if our lives depended on it ...

Just asking for everyone mostly ... I mean say that the concept artist is in no way interested in the challenge wouldn't that make it largely ok ?
seeing as the actual cg (model & texture) is done by the team-up
I mean we ALL have to work from one concept or another I just prefer it to be a great one rather then my own scribbles ...

If you are part of a team, you cannot use a concept from a third person outside the team. Concepts play a large part in making or breaking an entry. So a concept artist's artwork counts as if he was part of your team.

If you don't wish to submit a concept, you will need to upload an empty concept sheet once the entry forms come online. This is perfectly acceptable :)

oi that's a downer then ey. I can see the idea behind it, still I would like to stress one point and you said that yourself

Concepts play a large part in making or breaking an entry

that's why I'd prefer to work from an excellent concept as to better the outcome of the artwork.

would it help if I'd beg on my knees ? pretty please :D

That's exactly the point, though. We're competing as artists. If we can't make good concepts, and don't collab with someone who can, we deserve to be judged for our poor concepting.

I got this off of "the brief" on the main page.

" Feb 5th Update - Concept Artists do not count as a member in any team. However, they must put their Name and contact info (email and/or website) on their concept sheet(s). "

So what's the final word?

Final word is, concept artists don't count as a member. So, you can have a texture artist, a modeler "and" a concept artist. If your concept artist touches your textures, then give him a welcome home gift because he is now part of your family.... and you will be disqualified for having three team members:p

Just double-checking but is it a prerequisite to have concept art? I just accidentally overwrote all the concept art I was working on throughout the week and just don't have the hart to redraw all of that SH^%T! I mean if I must I must but I'm already late to the party and I want to start modeling. Let me know ASAP if you can, thanks a bunch!

If you don't have a concept, just put in a black image so nothing shows on your final entry:) Concept art is only optional.

Good luck

hey fred, i'm doing concept art for a modeler and i wanna provide him with a 3d sketch with proportions and main shapes blocked in so he can focus on the sculpting. it's a messy model only meant to be used as a guide and can't even be topod over because it's so rough...would this count as officially teaming up, or does it still fall purely under concepting?

hmm, I would really prefer if concept artists stayed away from touching models or textures. Perhaps if you passed him a drawn side view, back view and front view of your character, it would help.

alrighty, thanks fred. oh and as an aside, i read hawkprey passed on 3d roughs to the sculptors for gears of war :)

hey kipiripi, love your entry! main reason i'm asking is i may want to enter under my own name as well, but yeah thanks for pointing that out. :)
