Awesome comp. Not sure if it's the biggest one yet, but definitely one of the most massive ones I've seen so far.

This was a sweet competition I would have loved to participate...but even if I didn't do the comp I'm working on a sculpt as we speak just because I really wanted to. There were almost too many great entries but I have to give a shout out to my favs this is how I voted for the top 3. I don't feel like being secretive lol.

1.) Bcavett - I think this was the best of the bunch it really captured the character of balrog very well.

2.) Rv-el - Tons of little details and a great sculpt made this the Bison to beat.

3.) Josh singh - Maybe not the cleanest and most meticulous sculpt of them all but this one got my vote for personality and shear kickassedness.

what the hell is this?

this is far too many entries. What the hell man. I can go through this much. From now on i demand that only a max of 30 ppl can enter. That way i don't have to deal with pages full of art.

this is ridiculous.

The top 5 was surprisingly easy for me to pick actually considering the number of entries.

If GA dont have the time or resources to remake the voting system can you at least make a button to "open all in new tabs" so we dont have to middle click/gesture almost 100 thumbnails? (or make a whole page of full size images)

Also just a tip for those who do open in all new tabs and use opera/mozilla - use mouse gestures to open, close and switch between tabs :)

Wow, that was an insane number of entries... it took me forever just to look through them all, never mind choosing a top 5! I was definitely torn on my votes, and there were plenty of others that are just as worthy as the ones I finally chose. Nice job all, look forward to seeing some awesome stuff for Dominance War!

I'm very glad there were 5 votes in this comp. :D

The best mini yet I think.

However, I'm seeing far too many of those entries for the first time. W.I.P.'s people!

Hell yeah!!!! this minicomp realy rocked!!!, but it was a really time consuming task to see all the entries, I think maybe you guys can make the same thing as "go no next thread" with the entries, just to speed up the voting process, and congrats to all of you guys, this was really the best minicomp for me, and I bet it was too for the rest of us!!

However, I'm seeing far too many of those entries for the first time. W.I.P.'s people!

I agree, I noticed this in the 2D voting too. With comps this large happening more often, it's time to make some minimal amount of participation in the forums mandatory instead of "highly recommended."

clarification edit: On an implementation level, I'm not talking about adding a check-in process or any site-tech changes like that. I think the easiest solution is to change the mini-comp wording to something like "Forum Participation is Mandatory," and maybe even adding an explanatory sentence like "The primary purpose of these comps is not for anyone to win but for the artist and the community to grow, and not contributing to the forums doesn't help with either." Just making it an actual rule will weed out a couple people and influence some others to not vote for entries that have broken the otherwise-unenforced "rule." This won't change a lot but might weed out the one or two people who just don't get that yet. Sorry for the long-winded and semi-off-topic post, I initially just agreed with Blenderhead and then I started to think about unobtrusive ways to make that happen.

Anyhow, back to topic, I certainly have some favorite sculpts here, but I'm waiting to look at all of them when I'm sitting at my own computer and can save half of them to the inspiration folder. Wow, beautiful work, everyone!

God damnit that was a hard decision to make. I felt so horrible not picking some of the ones I had wanted to. But the criteria I used to decide was

Attention to detail
Uniqueness in style
Character likeness

Suffice to say the decision took me awhile. Though I didn't really find the voting process all that tedious. What struck me as odd was how the voting was actually done.

Why have folks choose a 1st to 5th rating? Why not just have them place a vote on all the ones they like? (one vote per entry), and thumb up if you will.

This will provide an easy way to choose the top five (whoever has the most votes).

Seems like the more logical way to go, no?

Truly mean there are WAAAY too many good ones this comp.

Theres stuff that should be in the top 5, but I just didn't have enough votes to go around.

If this mini-comp is any indication, perhaps a CAPCOM major contest after DW4 would be pretty awesome.

Geta-Ve: 1st place gets a gold star, 2nd silver and 3rd bronz plus each of them gets points - when you reach certain amounts of points your title changes. Top ranks "Elite Artisan" and "Master Artisan". I think nobody reached "Master Artisan", but there are some "Elite Artisans". So you see there is a system in place.....:)

Do they get points for the votes that I personally place? or just for reaching 1st place at the end of the competition?

I didn't realize there was an underlying point system. :P My mistake. Forgive me!

"The primary purpose of these comps is not for anyone to win but for the artist and the community to grow, and not contributing to the forums doesn't help with either."

I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest exactly, are you saying if people dont take part in the WIP thread then they cant submit a entry? Or do you just want more people to consider WIP thread participation when they vote? You're worried that a ninja entry is gonna win the competition? But winning doesnt matter as you said... plus they probably know they dont stand a chance of winning anyway.

I think the competitions provide motivation for some people, they feel more comfortable making something when a bunch of others are doing it too so in a way, the whole GA community is helping them improve just by being active.

This kind of motivation will help them grow as a artist and become more self-motivated, maybe not as fast if they also posted WIPs and took part in more discussions, but thats not the point.
The point is their participation can only be seen as a _positive_ thing, whether its for their own confidence or for GA's activity and competitions.

Of course, it would be better if everyone did post WIPs and comments - but it certainly isn't a negative thing to have these ninjas around :)

Took like 30mins to pick top 5 damn but 1st two are same as twindragon.

After character similarities and was stuck had to go with portfolio to decide who stays who goes, if there was no site links it was an easy choice, little harsh but why not post portfolio link?

Hard to decide either way something had to be the determining factor.

Had 10 favorites thou, good luck all.

Agree with joxx and cashfire! or have picks of other fighting games, such as tekken, darkstalkers, mortal kombat, ect... or have one competition for each fighting title, either or works and i'll surely enter those.

LoL truely, people with BIG egos have natural competitiveness inbuilt in their system, that's why they are so good or atleast try so damn hard to be.
Of course anyone might be worried someone might ninja their title, afterall who isn't into pure equality in being judged on thier performance/creativity/skill? Its those attributes which make it quite a personal thing. My advice to walrus, don't post your finals 2 weeks before the deadline:p lol joke

To be honest its a shame ego is seen as a bad thing in the public eye. I think if I did ignore all the public relation fuss, I'd have to admit my ego is big and I don't mind thinking I could do what others can do, whether true or not I like to think it.... all the time:P so walrus don't feel bad about it. lol

And I do think that ninja posts should be stopped!
I want to see struggle when halfway through the comp when that one guy posts his awesome wip entry, and people just know it's a winner. At least then people like walrus and definitely me have the chance to start again with new ambition, which ultimately should result improvement through pushing yourself that little bit harder!

And people who think they don't have ego are wrong. Everyone that trys just even a little bit to improve their art skill possesses ego. Ego is the bit that says you want to be able to what the other guy can do. If you still think you don't have ego you should be fine just turning your back on GA.org and all the art in whole for ever:)

lolol

Wow, thats a massive amount of entries. Unfortunatly this means that I'm voting on the basis of only looking at images that look good and interesting from the thumbnail and then impress me when I do open them. Although I suppose I could argue that it means I'm voting on things on which the impressiveness shines through even in miniture.

Some very good entries though, I'm certainly glad we get five votes now.
