View Full Version : Importing new base mesh...?

I'm not quite sure if the title of the thread best represents what I'm trying to accomplish... But if I were to sculpt on a base model that has no unwrapped UVs or UVs that have been tweaked since, is there a way to re-import or transmit the new UVs onto the sculpted model? I'm using Zbrush.
Thanks,
spetch

Sicarius,
It's funny because one of the guys at work was showing me this the other day. Here's the steps-
1. Open your base mesh ( the same you exported to zbrush) in 3dsmax
2. Apply unwrap into it
3. Export this mapped mesh the same way you have exported the first poly ( I suppose OBJ - and same parameters)
4. Open zbrush
5. Load you sculpted mesh
6. Go to it's the lowest subdivision ( The subdvision of the base mesh );
7. Click Import tool
8. Select your new unwrapped base mesh.
Zbrush should keep your sculptin...:) Hope this helps and I haven't left anything out. -S

yes... as long as you export the low res model and unwrap that without changing the geometry you can then take the new obj with your new uvs and import it into zbrush with the ztool at the same poly level as the uvobj selected.

Ok, thank you both very much, that's been bothering me since I'm working on an assignment in school and I got a little behind working on side projects and jumped right into the sculpting without unwrapping.
Thanks, you're lifesavers

Ok, new question.... in zbrush I noticed that in the top left, my brushes icon is gone. Instead there is a list with "Std, Tweak, Inflat, etc" and some adjusting bars below it. I have been googling like crazy, does anyone know how to bring back the brushes icon that lets you select from multiple brushes?
Thanks again,

Try flipping through the interface menu at top right of window. You should find what you are loking for.

I'm not sure I see the menu you're talking about. But Ive looked into the interface menu that sits in the Preferences menu, but it doesn't seem to be related.
On a side note, I also tried restoring standard UI, but that didn't change anything at all...

There are two little buttons on the top right of the interface that allow you to flip between all the layouts that have been used. They are tiny and look like little icons. Hunt around for them.

Oh ok, thank you. The problem was that I hadn't updated which is why, for some reason, I wasn't seeing those icons you were talking about. But everything is working now, thank you very much for your help!
