So I made a model and used the sym mod to mirror my uvw's and it worked great the first time. Now I make a 2nd model and I try the same thing and for some reason the mesh wont retain the collapsed uvw map mod. Is there something I accidentally clicked that could prevent that ? I can't figure out for the life of me why it wont hold the uvw's.

do you mean copying the uv's from side of a mesh to the other (mirroring) or from one mesh to a duplicated version?
i'm not a max user, but in maya i've found that if anything on either mesh gets moved at all in any way you're screwed.
(i once had to uv and texture a mesh that was already rigged and had to keep the rez at 512. they refused to re-rig the character after i mapped it even though they had a plug to do 90% of the work, so i had dup the mesh, break it up, map it, and tghen spend 2 weeks trying to get the the uv's from the new mesh to copy onto the old one)

if all you need to do is mirror them, then duplicate the mesh after you've uv'd it. you could then select all the uv's on the mirrored side (shell select as necessary), flip the horizontal, and line everything up line uv editor.

mirroring. This is what I did. (a quote from an older thread I started to learn how to mirror.)

1. Finish Model.
2. Delete half the model (unwrap 1 side, even if I'm going to have unique and mirrored UVW space)
3. Add UVW Unwrap mod and unwrap half model.
4. Collapse and add Symettry Mod, to clone half model...then collapse, then add another UVW Mod

When I add the uvw mod the 2nd time (step 4) it doesn't keep any of the seams that I created.
