View Full Version : Student Town
Has anyone else noticed that all the professionals have decided to jump ship and enter Dom War for Polycount even though they represented GA before?
lol, maybe its just me but it just looks like there's mainly students and the 'less elite' left over here. Maybe i'm talking too soon as many people haven't entered yet...

~ Too early to be having be d!ck measuring with any other forums, and it doesn't really matter.
Just join where you want to join. I picked GA cos i know more people here, i wasn't thinking about 'will i be surrounded by the elites?'
There's plenty of professionals still around, but just worry about your own entry and do your best. I'm sure people at 3Dtotal/Polycount/ and every other forum couldn't care less who's on the other side.

In addition to Dreamer's comment - Students are coming in with new ideas, energy and eagerness that hm ,some "stagnated blase" (hehe I'm trying to do my bit) cigarsmoking comfortable Polycounters cannot match? OK, I said it! This year there is no distinction about good or bad regarding forums - YOU CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT AND WITH FLAIR...... GA give them a good fight!:thumb: :)

to be fair, polycount has always had most of the "elite" :P
just remember it only takes one to win it ;)

Don't get me wrong, Polycount has some serious talent, but 3DTotal won the last two. Maybe we should be keeping an eye on them. lol
Fight for whatever side you feel like, in the end, it is about making the best art you can as an artist.

Polycount may have most "Elites" but they also have the most douche bags.
GA have cooler colors and is nicer due to it's relatively small size.

As much as I hope Game Artisan wins, in the end it doesn`t matter. We have a great community here of artist with all levels of abilities, all wanting to help each other and improve themselves. It`s something that is not usually found in the other sites.

:mugs: Melrick:I think you summorized nicely what it means to be part of the GA community, so win or not win - have a lot of fun and make many new friends who one day you might work with..... It's just a lot of fun to cheer GA on to be glorious....:thumb: :)

I work with/ have worked with mostly polycounters, they're always going on about how tough their forums are, and how they admire each others colon scrapers, whatever that means... any who, I like the GA community cause its pretty laid back style, general friendliness and not as full of members as polycount. but I slowly see this place getting filled with more and more artists day by day, which means fred might have to start giving out more tiers for membership.

~ I have noticed that the GA community is getting a little big too Zeke. In an uncomfortable way...
I don't mind beginners, but I'm just tired of hearing stupid questions that have already been answered.

yeah they're should be a rule, if you are a beginner or new to the forum you need to post at least a quick bio and 3 artworks before you ask for "career help" or perhaps even gain membership. no one should reply to such a question and a moderator should copy and paste a general response that asks for 3 pieces of art work and then drops links to previous threads about that topic, where it then turned into app wars. after people post at least a few samples then it actually becomes relevant for them not only to be here but to get personalized thread advice and gain the ability to actually make comments. I dunno, may sound a bit extreme but it would keep things from turning far too amateur. If you woke up one day and wanted to create game art, after playing a game for like 8+ hours straight, and don't have at least a few drawings I think that this forum is not for you, much so life or career. every forum gets hit with a waves of newbies. They either stick or fade away and lurk. I remember when polycount got hit by a BUTTLOAD of students because one of their professors told them to post on polycount to get crits. In the end I think they made a sticky saying if you were a student from so and so school you had to say so in your thread title.
Same thing happend at Concept art .org. In the end they made a sub forum just for the newbies.
But in the end, thats what wip threads are for. If you want a constant stream of bad ass art, you should be in the finished artwork thread right?

Yeah I find it kinda disloyal that people avail of all the minis the staff here go through the trouble of hosting throughout the year, and then f*** off to other forums for Dominance War for no good reason. Ah well.

:) Blenderhead: I hear you. This is how I look at it "They are just on loan to other forums so they will have a few entries"..... When the exciting minis start, they scurry back to GA because this forum is
FUN loving!:dude:

Oh and by the way... that hurts...right here *points to heart* lol.
I'm doing my best, and I'm definitely not the worst artist, but I'm not the best either. I'm a middle-man(or woman) just like the rest of you all. You're acting as if the only professionals in this field have jobs and we're all noobs because some of us don't.
