well, if you don't know who he is, I'll tell you this much, the dude is a mob boss, but more importantly, he is huge. Take 4 of the tallest trees you can think of, and stack them end to end. He is taller than that. And, he carries a sword, and never leaves home without his pipe. I think he smokes the sweetest of the cheeba, but I'm not 100% on that.

tacit math for your info gamabunta is a huge toad very huge toad think godzilla.
gamabunta still walk on all 4. he not a toad man. but then your toad man do look cool :D

tacit math
09-09-2007, 08:55 PM
yeah. i got from the wiki that he was a massive dude. with a massive sword ( which is really just 'cause he's massive right ? like. the sword itself is not wildly out of proportion ? ). i'm going for a bit of a redesign in that he'll be upright / bipedal most of the time. toad man. i like the pipe bit. i'll try and work that into it

Revliss
09-09-2007, 08:58 PM
i can't reamaber is shorw is a shushi knife or a meat clever but i do know the knife it self is to proportion to the toad.

Very nice sculpt so far man, I always like looking at your work. I would say you definitely have to bring in his sword and pipe. They are probably the most distinguishing features of the character. Also make sure in your final render that you show his size to really bring out the character (tho I'm sure you were going to do it anyway, :P). Looking forward to your next update!

Very nice sculpt so far! I say the limbs overall need to be bigger but the face is solid! Just gotta give him his pipes and tanto!

Awesome sculpt as always, tacit. Looking really blobby around the face, though, smooth that out!

tacit math
09-10-2007, 10:52 AM
thanks for the comments guys. the sculpt is still pretty low res. about 50k right now. made a few tweaks but i'll be leaving it alone 'til i've nutted out the concept and gear

that is too damn cool man! his face feels like the character even though hes standing upright. cant wait to see where u take this guy!

ThatDon

Very nice sculpt!

I think a big part of this character is his scale though, and that isn't exactly being portrayed to me. Right now he feels dwarf like in size.

Good luck!

Wait, this show has frogs the size of skyscrapers that wield equally massive swords? I'm not sure I can compete with that with the material I'm working with. Time to do some more research.

He's coming along well, Tacit.

FredH

The models looks extremely good there tacit. Like Thatdon mentioned, if you can make him look bigger somehow through his cloths or through adding tiny little details to give him more scale, this entry will be stellar. Looking forward to seeing more!

vjun
09-11-2007, 06:49 AM
with a yakuza kimono and the pipe, this will look sweeeeet

ThatDon
09-11-2007, 10:19 AM
I know it's far too early to be suggesting this but in your final render you could put a human figure in there for scale. refer to some of the BHG entry's.

tacit math
09-11-2007, 11:50 AM
you guys are all right regarding the size / scale of the toad. it's definitely something i'm gonna have to work on

starting in on some roughs. i'll post more as they come along

cool, the sculpt is coming along real well and he should look really nice all armored up.... maybe to push his scale you could include some designs in his armor that are made of giant tree trunks.... really tiny frequency details( pixel size artifacts on the texture maps) will really help sell the scale as well...good stuff:)

cool start on the sculpt, i really like the smug expression & head on the concept too, nice to see that find it's way to the model!

Eclipse

You can't forget his pipe man!!! it's very important and will really make it shine through as Gamabunta! Otherwise it's looking pretty cool man, Looking forward to more :D.

I'll be honest with you. It's a greatconcept, but a flat out failure for Gamabunta. The problem is that there is another frog summon in Naruto that has samurai armor, so you basically flew straight past Gamabunta and hit this guy (middle panel) (http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0WwCMGj8c9S8fQNtmifgGxXe!DDIfdw2Gi26XG7OxvqJd3PkJbIrHA35qasN4uuUUfErr!UpBzw3zLtfveAlrv05e6lfcDpU2WGyPw8gXQGeChf9t!NnQL0WoirKXsEugsXqDhVa9IEc/P?dc=4675617206972375231) square on the head.

Gamabunta is basically defined by his size, his coloration, and his costume. Size is relative with 3d models so you can change that later, but right now you have a very cool redesign of the nameless armor frog, not Gamabunta; because you changed his costume completely and had the bad luck that Kishimoto apparently felt like drawing a frog in armor.

I'd add in a cool pipe of some kind, Gamabunta's red color, and throw his jacket over the armor as well. That should bring the concept back towards Gamabunta again.

tacit math
09-23-2007, 08:45 PM
yeah. as i said i'm pretty well ignorant of the naruto universe. but i've come this much along and in the spirit of a redesign i don't think it's too far fetched to kit him out this way. i'll definitely have the pipe and the same basic colours going though

little more progress :

Well it's an interesting take on ol' Gamabunta and your doing a solid job dude. One thing that would be cool is to give him a bit of a stomach, or some more girth. I think it would make for a more imposing figure, keep in mind he's pretty huge in the Narutoverse.:)

Badass sculpting man. I see win all over this one. Lets just see you finish something for once! Ive seen you crank out badass models over at polycount too but ive never seen you apply normals or texture them so gogogo! Sucks that im exactly the same way lol.

I'm very torn with this entry...

The fan boy in me wants to say that looks nothing like Gamabunta.

However, the artist in me wants to say holy crap that is amazing!!! Way to make the character your own!!! The detail is great. I cannot wait to see how this one turns out.

Overall, I think I'm siding with with artist. Keep up the good work

really good modelling, great work on the outfit. The only thing that looks a little odd to me is his neck area under the chin, perhaps the chin should have those bulbous frog folds that cover the neck and go down to the start of the chest, like a really fat person?

Yung
10-09-2007, 01:08 PM
yer gamabunta is turning out really good. But somehow he does seems to lose the giant toad a little but the modelis good. Cant wait to this textured :D

sorry Marcus. i'm almost done with the high poly and once that's finished i'll leave him at that. dayjob and after hours contract work take the priority so there's not much time left over. been a wicked comp though with some really sweet entries. congratulations to all who finished and best of luck in the judging

I am with Chasarsis. The high poly sculpt by itself was amazing. Good luck in your workload.
