Whoa! Early runner here :D
nice start 3dsquid! I like his facial expression!
Is this the high res version? if it is, how about more definition on his turtle neck first! That'll be fun to model :inocent:
rock on:cool:

3dsquid
09-16-2007, 08:50 PM
@ ALW-DaSilva : haha, dunno if im gonna bring this to zbrush, afterall i'm not very good at zbrush :D

@ damagecontrol : thank you!

@ donatello : yup, this will be the high res version, about his turtle neck, right now i don't have any idea how i should detail it, maybe anyone can help? :D

okay this is my lates update, just finishing his body, adding minor detail, next task will be adding the drape...comments and critic are very welcome guys :)

It's looking pretty solid so far but the legs seem a bit off proportions wise, it would be cool if you made his thighs a bit thicker and have it taper off towards the knee area. His jacket could use a bit of tweaking as well, you should scale out the bottom of it some as it's looking a bit to straight. Just look at the reference photo you posted, see how the jacket has a sense of gravity to it.:lucky:

ALW-DaSilva
09-16-2007, 11:21 PM
wew, squid u really have feel on your modelling and ur fast too(speed modelling huh)..looking great...hahha...bow to u again..hehehe...

TryForce
09-17-2007, 02:04 AM
Damn he looks like he has thin legs!!!
his strapped bangage on his leg..try to release it abit and keep the standart form of the pants with it. You Tightened it to strong!!!

on the otherhand his Jacket has to be more free inside, look at the small pic you used, you see that his jacket is not tight to his body, wich gives him a bulkier view.

Also i think you forgott the Pocket in his pants =D

anyway good job! though it not lowpoly or?

ylaya
09-17-2007, 03:00 AM
i think the leg look a bit strange don't you think?

3dsquid
09-17-2007, 03:06 AM

@ Marcus Dublin : thanks, i agree with you, my model still needs alot of correction, specially on the feet, thanks 4 pointing it out :)

@ ALW-DaSilva : thanks 4 d support dude, this model still needs alot to improve :p

@ TryForce : yup, i agreed, and i will fix those on my next updates :) thanks !

aobond
09-24-2007, 08:17 PM
whoa, nice werk mate
for the face, i really prefer the first one, the jaw in the later one is too wide. i really think the first one catch naruto's personality, eheheheh, but that's just my 2 cents.
anyway its really nice werk

3dsquid
09-30-2007, 08:17 PM
zabuza2k& aobond : thanks alot! as for the jaw, i have repaired it to the original size :lucky:

here's some updates : building low polygon and adding some normal and opacity maps. The polycount for now is 4560 tris, the rest will be used to make his weapon.. I would love to hear some feedback ;)

tef

My only critique would be that you have a white triangle on the ear. I guess that is from the UV-layout, and there is something funny about his smile, can't put my finger on what to change though. But I think it looks awesome anyway.

Japhir
10-01-2007, 06:06 AM
looks awesome! but his head doesn't look very grown-up, it looks like his head is right now. and the smile is cool, but usually you model a character in a neutral expression.

iceblazer17
10-01-2007, 12:07 PM
Just a quik question. From reading through your thread, it sounded like you made the high-poly first and then the low poly? Whats the work flow like when you build the low-poly?

Anyways, I think your model is looking great. You should maybee try and go into more detail with the wrinkles, they look very basic on the clothes and just a few smaller ones would help bring it all together

3dsquid
10-01-2007, 08:14 PM
tef : thanks man, dunno about the white tris, maybe it is because the backlight i add which have a big intensity :)

Japhir : yeah, i wanna make him smile to make him diifferent , you're right about neutral position, i just don't know how to morph it :lucky:

iceblazer17 : yup, i'm building the high poly first, and then using projection to bake the normals map, maybe this method sounds very old but i prefer this than using zbrush to bake the normals :)

here's some quick painting on his head, feedback are very welcome guys :)

ALW-DaSilva
10-01-2007, 11:28 PM
wow..ur texture already....but i think ur cloth texture is quiet simple...or u looking for original manga colour..or this just the basic from the texture....hopefully u can upgrade ur texture squidd...because ur model is nice one for me...cheers,...cheers...

10-04-2007, 01:26 AM

holy blast!! this is much better than i expected b4! i think his nose is still to big though..

Yung
10-04-2007, 01:04 PM
Woah this is looking good. I only maya could view something like this in the viewport. Are you using Maya or Max?

3dsquid
10-04-2007, 09:09 PM
zabuza2k : haha thanks man :inocent:

TryForce : heheh, yeah, maybe i'll change the direction of his eyes, dunno about that :D

bin : thanks bin :D as for his nose, i guess it's kinda late to remodel his face, maybe if i have an extra time i'll fix it :)

Yung : thank you, but that image is not in viewport, it's rendered :D
I'm using 3dsmax, and the viewport display is kinda suck so I render it using mental ray instead. Does anybody know how to achieve a good view in max?

EVIL
10-07-2007, 04:07 PM
Aw, kinda sad that the last pic is basically the last step your taking. I mean the texture kinda ruins the great model because its held way to simple. This piece simply had the potential to be great if it had a good supporting texture along with the modeling.

Now its just a good model with a weak texture and nothing more.

Honestly I'm disappointed, but the deadline isn't there yet so maybe you can work it more.

3dsquid
10-07-2007, 07:56 PM
EVIL : thanks 4 your input! yeah i'm agree with u, the texture is kinda simple and weak, that is probably because i'm suck at texturing :lucky:
but since i still have a week i think i'll refined it later, thanks again!

and here's my newest updates, finally rigged and posed :)

pnyx
10-16-2007, 11:28 PM
nice improvement! :D The lighting really makes this image.

The only thing jumping to my eye is the mirrored hair... you might want to rework it before you submit.

FredH
10-16-2007, 11:54 PM
REally hate to say this, but I don't know if the patterns were a good addition. Feels like they were added in just to add additional details on a simple costume. If you would like to add details, I would probably suggest that you try adding details to the clothes with pockets, seams, and rinkles. That type of jacket usually has pockets, also, his pants can use pockets too. Maybe even make the jacket pockets have zippers to diferentiate them from his zipperless pants pockets. You can also add a big seam on the upper legs of his pants. Something like this one here:
http://z.about.com/d/studenttravel/1/0/D/4/pants_scott_evest.jpg

The great part about these details is that you can do them in photoshop. No need for modeling them in 3d.

Anyways, it's just a suggestion:)

Otherwise, the lighting is a definate improvement. Overall, you did a really nice job with everything thus far. I am sure it's only going to get better and better as you near the due date.

Looking forward to your next update:thumb:

pynx : thanks! about the hair, i'll surely fix it if i have a time left :D

FredH :thanks alot 4 the input ! :D you're right, i guess it will be better if i add some details instead of just a pattern :) and thanks 4 the reference image too, i'll work on it soon :)

dasilva : yow thanks win :D i still have alot to improve from this image..ampun sefu.. :)

This is a fun looking rendition of Naruto and I look forward to the final renders. By the way the patterns aren't so bad and I kind of dig them but it's up to you as the artist on which way you want to go. Nice going 3dsquid.:)

Hey man, your model looks awsome! I also like the way your textures turned out. The lighting on your final model looks really crisp too. What kind of lighting did you use? Thanks for posting up wireshots and textures....it really helps people like me to understand stuff! I hope you do well!

really nice man, next time, I'd suggest doing an ambient occlusion, and applying it on top of your diffuse, and set to multiply, and tone it down, it'll help get geometry to feel more inset into itself.
