Hi all.

Thanks for the opportunity!! I do apologize in advance if my versions upset the Naruto fans. I've not been keeping track of this show so I'm still trying to get a feel for its "essence".

Here's my first concept of Sai. To me, what attracted me to his character is his artistic bent. Very cool concept. So I'm trying to figure out a Sai who would use gear more effectively for battle.

This is one I did to try to get a feel for his style. The brush work on the scroll is trash. I'll admit that upfront. But luckily I'm working a concept piece...are am I? :paper:

very cool line work, even this early it has signs of awesomeness.

thanks for all the love.

TryForce: You know i was thinking the same thing...until i realized i kinda cheat the anatomy to fit the dynamics. Hopefully, it'll work out in the end.

Finalizing on the design soon.

Any advice or suggestion on this character would be appreciated. I've crash course on the story and realized there really isn't much on this guy. He's a fairly new character. In fact, I'm not even sure if he's carry a short sword or baton of some kind.

I really like this concept, as a drawing. Very dynamic, and has a lot of style.

As for the design, I'd keep doing more to break up his silhouette. The pouch from the first concept was cool. What about rolled scrolls on his side or back, too? Maybe a backpack of some kind?

not much on him, all the better, give him a shoto; a big brush like a spear. and whatever else suits your fancy

Hey thanks guys!

@ SupRore - Thanks. Yeah. Still working on it. I was thinking it would be a good scroll bag that can be swung around to grab during battle. Gap use to make this kinda "biker" bags and I always thought they were really reliable for quick assess. Please it'd make a cool anime/manga sequence. I thought at least.

@Hito - You're right. I think I saw some fan art with the bigger brush.

Okay. Pretty much my final design for the character himself. A few ideas may come up but aside from some details details in the back, I think I incline to go with it and can at least start the basic mesh.

The weapon(s) is still up in the air, but I'll get to that some more as I go.

First some more sillouettes and sketches:

Also the "almost" done concept:

I don't what he's doing in that right/middle sketch, with those 4 things poking out of his back, but whatever it is, it looks cool.
The head protector covering his eyes is also awesome

Whoa, I like that last concept... Really cool pose man !

Hey thanks everyone!

@lone wolf - thanks. High compliment from such a talent artist.

@ Chasarsis- yeah. I was turning some random ideas. Seeing if anything sticked.

@ALW-DaSilva - yeah. I'm leaning toward the last concept. I've working to merge elements from other design to give him a more concrete finish.

@3dsquid - haha. thanks. we'll see if it translate in 3d.

Here's my progress on my basemesh. Using a stock man model to make sure i maintain propositions correct.

Nothing special but a start. I'll get back on the final design and finish it by the weekend some time.

Added some more on the base mesh. Gotta fix the topology but at least most of the body is done (need to add hair and so on). Haven't added a weapon but I gotta finish his concept design before I can really go forward but its coming soon.

Almost finished with the final concept with Sai.

Here's a rough. I've decided to add a giant scroll on the back BUT I think I may want to try making a set of 3 scrolls side by side instead. What do you think?

Here's a rough of the final design with my indecisiveness on the scrolls for the back.

All the emotional colors from the character will come from his art equipment.

Concept's looking good, the model's pretty messy, I suggest building up from basic mesh instead of trying to noodle all the details into it in one go.

@Hito - yeah. haven't gotten that mesh down proper yet. But it'll get there...I hope :-)

Here's the final concept. May make a cleaner version for the final concept image if I have time. For now, I'm running with this model.

Off to bed and on to the model cleanup.

Hey all,

sorry. Haven't spent much time on this piece. Part of the reason is because its so new to me in many ways. I'm thinking about trying to model the character to reflect the Kingdom Hearts style. Not too detailed but well conceived textured.

One colleague suggest I create a base mesh and smooth him out via sub-d and sculpting. Then map that to a low-poly mesh. I think I'll go that route.

here's my progress from the previous model. I'm stilling cleaning him up. Mouth looks too much like the Joker.

hmmm the topology needs ALOT of work, you got many useless polys in there.Example, forehead is a mess, try to reduce some polys, the shape wont change.Shoulders need to be rounder so add some polys there and try to keep your geometry clean as much as possible. You will love your model more when it looks clean.

@fuxer - you're ABSOLUTELY right. I haven't spend commited time to fix this but that's my goal next couple of days.
