This may be a total nooby q, but this is driving me crazy!

Submission thumbnails for DW4. Says 128x128 exactly, and no bigger than 20kb file size. The problem is, I can't get it that low quality at 128x128 resolution!

I set all the low quality I could and optimized the image the most I could, but can't seem to get below a 22kb size, and even at that, the image is so blurry I can hardly make it out.

This confuses me because all the thumbnails I see on there now are decent quality and definitely look bigger than 20kb.

Please help. :(

Are you trying this with Jpeg or Gif? I couldn't get mine to 20kb for the life of me with Jpeg, but with a Gif, I got it to like 16kb with decent quality.

If you're using Photoshop, use the "Save As for Web" function (ctrl+shift+alt+s)

In this, there's options to optimise to a file size. Choose 20k. Should work fine.

With my experience, PS has horrible jpeg compression. I use the free app Irfanview to compress all my jpegs. I can open a jpeg saved with PS at 800k, save it with irfanview, put the quality at about 80, and it drops to less than 100k, without any visible quality loss.

It's free, non intrusive, does a lot of stuff in a less PITA way, such as screenshots, cropping, resizing, and the like. And it takes about 2 seconds to load, unlike PS.
