Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question but I couldn't see anywhere else (i also tried to find some info on this but I can't find anything)...

Anyway I want to learn a 3d modelling package, and I am particulary interested in 3ds max. Partly because I want to do low poly game models, and partly because i downloaded the trial version of 3ds max and it seems nice and fun to use. :D And also because I am a programmer, and modelling is a bit of a side project.

I would love to do an online course to get me started because I haven't every /really/ modelled before, and i came across http://www.gnomononline.com/pages/classes.php, an online course which seems AWESOME. Unfortunatly, they are specialised in maya?

I'd really love to do an online course, but in fact its not just gnomon, but just about every course I've seen, that specialises in maya. Does this mean I am wrong to want to learn 3ds max and should learn maya instead? Also, does anyone know any quality courses in 3ds max?

Thanks heaps :)

Well if you're interested in modeling just generally, any software package will do. It's all subject to preference.

I think the reason most courses offer Maya training specialized is because Maya is just a generally more popular program(atleast in the US) in the field.

There's nothing wrong with Max if you like the interface, I was taught on Maya so I prefer Maya, but there's really not much of a difference as far as modeling goes.

Nonetheless, you can look up courses for Max at a lot of colleges, but if you don't want to spend too much, check out a more personalized package like Digital Tutors. I know for a fact they offer Max training.

Gnomon is great, I don't know about their selection for software package training, but I've seen them using Max in some of their videos.

Either way, just Google 3DSMax college training or something, I'm sure you'll find something. Or check out Digital Tutors like I mentioned. Good luck! :)
