Just wanted to post a few heads that I did for the divergeworkshop here in Dallas this weekend. They were done in about and hour and a half in zbrush 3.1 ( still trying to figure out the program:)) so hope you guys like them. I reworked a base head mesh into the alien head, and reused the base head to create a varient just for fun.

F&^CK, these would have taken me much longer than an hour and a half,:ack: I feel pretty week. I would have loved to have seen some sort of time laps video to see your work flow. Nice job Spark.:D

Mr Briley! Always liked your stuff (well, since I first viewed it at least.)
Dig'n the first sculpt! Seems to have much more poise and character than the second. Maybe it's just a matter of preference, but I think the first dude feels like he could be from a mysterious alien culture, to me, just seems more interesting like "huh... I want to communicate with that sucker..."
Whereas the second dude... though I dig the heavy skin contortions on the shoulders, his face is just screaming "swamp creature" and that doesn't appeal to me as much. I think this is mostly in the mouth and ears where I am picking this up. The head crest over the ears makes for interesting form though.
Woh impressive Spark:uhh:

Hey guys, thanks for the kind replies:) Yeah, I think the second guy I have to go back on and tweak a little longer as certian areas are working better than others. I was watching "Uncle Buck" with my wife and friends so I wasn't as focused as I should have been:) By the way, watch the movie if you guys haven't seen it..classic! I'll post some rework pics of it when I fix those issues. Thanks again for the crits guys.

Hey guys, just wanted to post up a few more head busts that I am working on along with some pictures of what I am teaching in my class (I teach a character modeling class over at the local Art Institute of Dallas) I plan on adding more detail to the demon, along with finishing up with the mobster, as they are both around 4 hrs in. As always, any comments or critiques are apprecaited.

Looking prime dude! My only crit is that it seems like the demon is leaning too far forward and the neck is too long, I think a shorter neck would fit the body better. The thumb seems a bit long and the ring finger seems a bit fat at the tip. Other than that it looks awesome.

nice update man! Legs and arms are shaping up, though with that belly so distended (which i love), might be nice to see the skin hang from the ribs more. Looking forward to seeing that cloth hanging from the back spikes.
What will be the purpose of this guy? I take it he's Satan's little slave? Might be nice to have one of the hands shackled up, maybe some loose flesh dangling form an arm?
Anyway, just rambling, look good, eagerly awaiting updates.

Hahah, thanks guys for all the comments, and yeah he isn't to happy due to his tiny package:) Asstornado, yeah I remember you, are you still with ritual/mumbo jumbo? We have the Dallas Sketchgroup up and running every weekend from 11:30-3:00 if anyone in the area would like to come, you can find out more info here www.dallassketchgroup.blogspot.com Hope to see some more of you Dallas area artists there. Anyway, here is an update to the character, I gave him a base, along with some minions that will be poking into the pool of hell. Just thought it would be fun, and take it more of a tradtional sculpture route. Any comments are always apprecaited, as it helps me see where I am going wrong.
Thanks

loving how this is all coming together. are u working from a concept sketch or making this stuff up as you go along? of course you're using reference, it would be cool to see that if you want to share, peace.

the minion is fantastic, the forms are nice, and i really dig the the lower jaw being so pronounced... so plans for the posing? Might be nice if you duplicated that little bugger a couple times, and did some variations and had them climbing around that bolder. ( DIARRHEA BRAIN SPEW ) Hands coming out is nice... maybe a melted face or dismemberments in there as well? Any way awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply's:)
Sir Rodriguez: Yeah I am making it up as I go along, as for reference I am mainly studying my freedom of teach sculpture for information on anatomy, and otherwise have been just making things up. Hence some of the areas not being as strong.
Onelung: Keep tossing those ideas at me, as your the reason I'm doing a minion:) But yeah, one minion will be poking into the flames, and the other one will be small and maybe testing the pool of flames with his toe ( kinda like checking the water:)) Maybe I can throw in a third one so that there is interest from each direction, so I will give that a try.
I did the stone base over lunch today, but its feeling more ice like rather than stalagtite undercavern stone that I was going for. I suck at environment stuff:( Here is an update, I also created a few other pieces for the sculpture that I will update soon.

Is there any chance that were going to see one of these turned into a full game spec model with textures;)? I can’t wait to see how this demon statue comes together in the end though; it’s looking like a great scene.:)

wow this looks great. u planning on making a low poly?
Spark
12-01-2007, 02:21 PM
Hey Marcus and Frozen, I was just planning on doing a high poly version, but since I am teaching I probably will use these as demos on getting normals from high poly. And at some point have to finish it into textured form, so yeah I will hopefully get to doing that. Thanks for looking guys, any further comments are always welcomed.

Was looking at this... and maybe since it is hell. You could have some lava shooting up from around one side, and one of the minion's being blown back? Since you mentioned the toe thing, i was trying to think of something that might provide a tad more action to the scene.
... damn that belly is distended!
I found this ref of some lava rock that might give a little more depth to your bolder. And yea, i agree about the stalactite feel... i think if it was that close to lava, they would have broken off and become molten lava as well.
