Thanks, you guys are nice :)
Tenten's a fairly minor character in Naruto, I understand. Luckily for me and MoP since it seems that nobody else has picked her :) She summons weapons with magic scrolls that she carries about and wears a basic but potential-full costume.

I've started the illustration.. did somemore preliminary stuff but it's all in my sketchbook and I can't be arsed to scan it right now :D I really want to go all out on silly detail a la Hyung-Tae Kim. I passed through my anime-drawing phase (a mercifully short one) years ago, but I still quite like it. Trying to evoke anime with this without being really overt about it.
What do you guys think?

This is going to be a treat :) Was thinking of doing Sakura in the same style, glad I can sit back and watch you in action instead.
Nice emulation of Hyung Tae's style so far, there's a lot of motion on the upper body. Lower body, not so much. but I dig the overall proportions and balance.
Sexy!

nice start dude!!
the proportions really looks like hyung-tae kim's..........
but there's something about the face that bothers me........
what i see in tenten is a "cute baby face" - maybe that's what you need.....
it's only a suggestion, any way that's all from me...

ahhh, it's about time tully makes a name for herself:p Very promising start here. Like dkv mentioned, something in the face does seem a bit off. perhaps play with the size of her eyes a little. Who knows, they could look nice much bigger. Additionally, the shading under her nose sort of gives her a mustach look, or, this might just be my screen:D Aside from this, she is looking great so far. Looking forward to seeing more, more and more!

Snowfly: Thankya :) I think you're right with the motion thing.. this was pretty hastily sketch out so I'm planning to add a bit more hesitancy in her step (if I can manage it!). atm it doesn't particularly bother me, but I'm glad you mentioned it so I can pay attention as I'm painting the rest.
ThatDon: Thanks! The curvy route is always an enjoyable one :D
keo: Good thing you remembered my name, cause I remembered your avatar! Figured it must be you. Happily, cause I quite like your art!
tacitmath: thanks :)
Marcus Dublin: I gots another one for you then! Not quite as interesting as the first, but there ya go :P
dkvdeeto: I think you're right that she lacks a baby-face... I'm definitely gonna do more studies just to explore more possibilities. It's not hard to rework stuff. Lots of time left, so you'll see more from me on the matter I think :)
FredH: Yeah, I've been under the radar for the past while I guess :) Glad you like it so far! I did make an adjustment to the size of the eyes that I think has helped... not enough difference between the last post as now to warrant an update, but it oughta be in the next one.
Alexisys: Well thankyou! I don't think you have to wait for making lovely things. I think the sketches for yours are looking great!
MoP requested a quick ortho from me for basic proportions, so I did him up a fast one. I like it, so I'll probably be turning this into the real ortho :P
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/tully/tenten-ortho-side.jpg
You never disappoint. Its good to see you didn't make the ankle ring ridiculously huge like some of the anime designs.
More flowers! Or flowers inspired designs. Hyung Tae kim's works has a lot of them. And perhaps try more purplish lilac colors. Me and many of my fellow illustration friends all love his works so yeah. Oh and my bro (non artist) said her nose is too big? She seems to be leaning to much forward in her the side view of the model sheet. hahaha please don't mind us if we are wrong, just our opinions.
Would love to see this turn into 3d. Good luck Tully!

tully - well it's a non-issue, the twist in her legs makes them look wound up for action, which is a lot cooler than an out and out dynamic pose in my opinion. :-) top stuff!

Hito, Yung, Snowfly: Thanks for the kind words :)
Yung, I'm planning more flowery stuff! At the moment I want to make sure I get all the underlying structure of her clothes done. Detailing is easily added overtop.
A couple quick drawings of her items. The top is a shortened version of the clasps on her shirt (I have a tiny sketchbook :P). The bottom is the scrolls that you can see finished if you go over to MoP's thread (http://www.gameartisans.org/forums/showthread.php?t=894).
http://www.ldaustinart.com/laurel/tenten_items1.jpg
And an updated version of the illustration. Thanks for the ideas, everybody who gave them. They've helped!
http://www.ldaustinart.com/laurel/tentenWIP4.jpg
I'm not sure if I'm feeling the flowery bits on her boots yet. Might make them over the whole thing, get rid of them or change them significantly. We shall see O_o

Super legit, Tully. I've got to disagree though, I really like the flowery bits on the boots. I think they work well with the detailing in the other parts of the concept. Keep up the good work :D

I love the progress so far, but I'm not really feeling the blue eye makeup, just makes the eyes look too small and strange to me. Other then that it's totally ace work, but what else is to be expected eh? haha.

Tully... wow. nice work there! Face looks absolutly great now.
Other then proportions are a bit off and the face still looking a bit to masculine its a fantastic rendered piece.
this is looking really good, I think the nose and mouth are looking a little odd, the nose is almost as wide as the lips? and also due to the way the shadow looks the nose almost seems hooked.

Great work tully :) the nose is just a little broader than the illustration in the orpho's and I think the bulge of the lips needs to be fractionally broader in the orpho's too!

It's too bad you couldn't find a decent 3D artist to team up with, Must suck having to settle for MoP's subpar work ;) ;) har har har

I be done! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out overall.. few things here and there, but I've been staring at it so much I need to give it a rest.
Hope you all approve! Girliest concept I think I've ever done :o

ThatDon: Yeah, that MoP. Pfft. What a slacker, eh? ;)
Brian_H: Thanks, glad you think so!
Yung: I wouldn't worry about it too much :) MoP had to go all the way to SanFrancisco to find one. Epic quest, it was. Dragons and such. *nods*
Antimagic: Thanks :)
FredH: Thanks, I liked it then too even though I ended up changing it again :P Wanted nicer lighting...
EVIL: Hate to pull the "style" card (if the unrealistic proportions are actually what I think you're talking about... I don't want to put words in your mouth so I'm sorry if I don't really know what you meant :() but I'm going with a bit of anime inspiration on this one, which I think is appropriate given the subject matter. Very wide hips/long thin legs/narrow waist/big boobs... tends to be the way to go in that area. So if you were meaning something else I'd appreciate knowing so I can take it into account, even though it's a bit too late for me to address it for the competition. I might still pick at it a bit later. Thanks for the compliments though!
Ged: Funny that you'd say that, cause the width and stuff is actually quite proper if you measure it... but I do agree they *look* like they're fairly similar in width. I think it's the shadow under her nose, which was definitely was giving it some hook, and the width of the lower lip. I took the crit on board with the changes I made since and I think it looks more natural :)
Coffee: Thankya!
Spacemonkey: Good crit! I'm sure I'll be enjoying lots from you from now on :D
Frozan: Thanks :)
Shadowbreeze: Thanks, I used to be the same! I only came to actually wearing pink fairly recently (and I'm a girl) ... I figure since Tenten actually wears pink herself, it'd be appropriate.

Awesome stuff Tenten, I really like your work, great colors, and the face looks alot better now, she looks awesome. sooooo purrrty.
Yeah, I caught your post almost as soon as it went up and spent a good time looking at it (and saving the files). Definitely helped me figure out what to do next with my project, even before I read your crit!
So if you're working at Splash Damage, am I going to find a huge dump of Quake Wars art over at CA? :) Wolfenstein ET was big distraction for me when I started playing it last year, (never mind the massive addiction to CTF on the first Quake during my freshman year at college) so I'm really hesitant about buying the new Quake version!

tacit math: Thanks a lot :) I was disappointed I didn't get to see your entry finished, actually! I guess life has a way of mucking things up, though. I happened to have a two week holiday from work during the comp, so it suited me quite well.
FredH: Thanks! I'm glad I got the chance to do one. The comps are great for giving me some impetus to actually finish something, especially now that there's a seperate concept art category. If nothing else, my portfolio is stronger for it ;)
Asstornado: I'll assume you mean Tully ;) Thanks! It was nice to see yours get finished as well.
keo: I hope I'll get the chance to post something! I came into the project pretty late so I haven't had the chance to do much in the way of concepts yet. Motly been media work which is either super fun illustration-type stuff or hair-pullingly tedious screen shots. I've got something tentative in the works (hush hush, NDA) and if that comes to fruition you'll certainly see it on CA :)
As to the game itself, all I can say is that (speaking for myself) I personally really like it. Unbiasedly, I do play it at home when I'm not obliged to! If you liked WolfET, it seems a fairly safe bet that you'd like ETQW too. There's a demo floating about the intarwebs, as well. If you ever end up trying it and liking it, add me to your friends list and we can have a campaign or two :)
Scorn-maniac: High praise! Thanks :lucky:
Yung: Glad you like it :)
Tully dear, I meant that only the face with the undefined shapeless nose, made the face more masculine. But I am thrilled to see that the latest version corrected that problem. I wish you the best of luck in the comp, great illustration and concept!
