Alright. So I've got this character:

Please pardon the sloppiness of the model so far, much of it is still in-progress. I'm not fond of the Kingddom Hearts-ish look I've given her face, either. So stiff and doll-like and not really that appropriate to the earthy kind of look I'd like her to have. Still, eventually I wanna tackle a next-gen version, and part of what I want to do with it is give the jacket a different lining on the inside than it has on the outside. Now, the only way I really know how to tackle a jacket is to make it a single polygon in thickness, like it is here, but then it's the same texture on the inside as it is on the outside, which obviously I don't want. Meanwhile I have still yet other characters I'd like to try, such as this guy:

... Who have even bigger, more difficult coats. Now, how would I go about giving them some thickness without puffing my poly-count up like a blowfish? failing that, is there just some good way to make a coat with its own proper lining? ANYTHING?

if you add a zipper to that girls jacket, it might help it look thicker by emphasizing the edge, but if you want a next gen look you would have to copy your jacket and extrude the polys for thickness, then weld the verts. or if you used 3ds max, you could just use a shell modifier.

also that pouch is a bit too square, maybe another loop to bend it around the waist a bit might help, and check the width/hieght ratio of the head.
the concept art of the guy is amazing!

Hey Nick,

The only suggestion that I have, is what Omnichypher already suggested, and that's extruding your coats. It works.

You might also think about widening her hips, they are a little narrow and man like. But otherwise it's looking pretty good.

Thanks much for the feedback. :) I guess I just gotta give extruding a shot, and I'll look into the hips for sure. I figured it was just because of those obnoxious shoulder pads I'm planning on replacing, but I think you're right.

To Omnicypher: I'll see about those belt pouches like you said. I thought they seemed a little off, and I'm certainly under my polygon budget of 5000 on this thing.

Ha! I wish I could take credit for it. Credit for that goes to Ridwan Chandra, who'd probably model circles around me to boot. I've got a model of that guy in the works. It's a lot cleaner and has over double the polygons, though I never quite wrapped my brain around his hair and didn't get as far as his accessories before obligations to my classes got in the way of things. Hopefully you'll be seeing WIPs of him soon. ;)

Many thanks for the replies, guys! :D
