Hey guys, may some of you still know me.
I will make it short and quick:
What Inspires you to do something artistic?
Write anything like Books, Games, Movies, Theaters and stuff. If you pointed them out, please give thea reasons with an example or "that" example that you mean.
For Example:
I'm getting inspired by Games like ....
I Love this movie because...
just point them out, I'm trying to get myself some pointers again.
P.S. Dont point me to "do" something :P I just wanna figure your inspiration sources.

Planet Earth (BBC Documentary) because earth is just so beautifully fucked up.
The Sandman (Graphic Novel by Neil Gaiman) - imagination is nuts.
Any show Gordon Ramsey puts out - I like food.
Any book by Chuck Palahniuk. - I like being disturbed
Movie - Requiem For a Dream
Other non-3D artists: Dave Mckean, Floria Sigismondi, JK Potter, and Guillermo Del Toro. Dark disturbing, and powerful.

~ I can relate so much to you Joxx!
Lots of things inspire me, but I like to draw inspiration from obscure sources if i can help it, as we all watch the same films and play the same games so its easy to be 'inspired' by all the same stuff and we lose our creativity.
I like to find inspiration in unfamiliar nature though. Like Joxx, documentaries can make you see things that are truly unfamilar to us. I like anything raw or by things that are unusual. Like for example my Dominance War character's clothes were inspired by my girlfriend's favorite concept-based fashion designers Viktor and Rolf. They have truly crazy designs.

I always think its a bad idea to be inspired to create concept/game art by looking JUST at concept/game art. You can only 'remix' someone else's idea so much.

Praise, money, and I can't stop drawing stuff even if I didn't get the first two.
Other than that:
*When I see someone in the process of making some really great artwork , it fires up my competitive spirit!
*I find the works of Alphonse Mucha to be very inspiring to me.
*When my friends and I make up fun stories about our characters! I want to draw what they have done!
*Table Top Role Play
*ummmm... the world around me.. But that's not very helpful
*Writing down or scribbling pictures of my weird dreams when I wake up.
*Trips to a museum, zoo, nature, or just somewhere completely different from what I'm used to!

Tricky one...let's see:
Space: I wanted to be an astronomer, I find the scale and magnificence of space bodies to be overwhelming.
Music: classical in the first place, EBM, synth and sountracks.
Videogames: sometimes because of the art, the theme, the narrative, etc... mainly because I see them as a new form of narrative for those whose objective is deliver a story.
An of course other people's art, from past or present, too much to list here.

I find it anywhere. Wherever it happens to strike. The only unifying factor I can see is that most things I find inspiring have very strong atmosphere and good lighting. It seems like a fairly profound thing that can't be forced or easily explained. It's all about what different images stirr up in your head and the connections you make between stuff.
I find though that I easily get inspired to work "in the style of..." Particularly with games or TV shows. Ones with really full and fleshed out distinct styles. And not just visual styles, either.
The next thing I want to work on was partially inspired by the way some woman was dressed in an adult video, Jet Set Radio and someone's model that I saw in a WIP thread on Polycount. :approve:
Also what Jocz said. :D
I can look at rusted metal or patterns and think of how to connect them and visually create a character or object of interest out of it which I like to do often in the BR doing no#2 ;) (and no not looking at my dookie!) lol.
Movies, old games, current games, nature, history and animal planet channel thou I hardly watch T.V. A situation that happens, future events or what I think the future (being 100-1000) years ahead will look like. (if we get past 2012 that is.)
Overall anything...

2012 :) Yeah. It will be the end... of the Mayan calendar. Beyond that, I'll lump that in with Y2K. :p
What gets me going? Music, movies, "Art of" books, comics, the History Channel, classic sculpture, maquettes, toys, etc. I think that inspiration is everywhere. Being creative enough to capitalize on it is a different story.

For me it's a great style or great idea.
I am a sucker for a really nice cartoony style with great lines, character, and weight, so if something has that i really want to try and remake it in 3d.
And a great idea, well that speaks for itself, just something that gets my mind working and it won't stop until i do something about it :P.
i love history so whenever i'm hitting a block i tend to read about something that has to do with the past. I try to read about something thats related to what i'm working on if that is possible.
i also like looking at good artwork, that tends to make me come up with all kinds of stuff

Although I don't watch the history channel. Actually I don't watch tv. :) Traditional sculpture REALLY inspires me. A lot more than digital sculpture. There's a ton of artists doing incredible work in clay, that you just don't see in digital sculpture.
[MASSIVELY OT SECTION]
I agree with everything you said, Cooke, but the wording on that last sentence. I know, I know, I'm nit picking, just wanted to get my point across here. There is a difference between being "creative" and being "artistic". Jordu Schell of Schell studios put it very well. Artists will create if they're in prison, on a deserted island, in the lap of luxury, it doesn't matter. An "artist" will always create. It's a biological imperitive, like eating, or breathing, or sex. "Creative" people can leave it behind at the drop of a hat. Just leave it, and never create anything ever again. And be just fine with it. That is the difference between being creative, and being an artist

often some of the best ideas i have are when im outside somewhere with headphones on listening to some music, and an idea just grows out of nowhere and i'm like YES! - I have to make this... then when I eventually end up back at my computer I'll have completely gone off it :P
