I dont really see the difference between the two except that they have a small difference in layout and shortcut keys.

here's what buggs me about macs, their entire marketting campaign (the successful one anyway) is based around bashing pc's and windows. microsoft and other pc companys? no bashing:think:

Civility above all else, as we are to conduct ourselves as reasonably normal & rational adults.
Remind me again. The purpose of this thread is WHAT?

Nothing of great interest can be gained from this thread.

There's a huge issue of personal preference in such a debate. What fits with my workflow and lifestyle may not fit into yours. Bias often leads into ugly flame wars, though most people here are too civil for such antics.
Often, the OS that one uses at work may not reflect what he or she uses at home, and vice versa.
With the existence of Intel-based Mac, it is possible to run both OSes and never have to choose.
The OS you use may often be dictated by your preferred applications. It is fairly unlikely that a hardcore 3dsmax user will be a hardcore Mac user, as there is no OSX port. Even when your app of choice is cross platform, it is not uncommon for development of the Mac version to lag behind or get released after the PC one.
Your budget can also dictate which camp you fall in. Because the PC is an open system, it is fairly easy to find a PC for as little as $299. On the Apple side, because they are closed system and thus the only source for Macs, a Mac-mini will cost nearly 2x that and with half the RAM.
Also, because it is an open system, building your PC from scratch is often easier, as there's a much larger driver database of supported hardware.
Some people require the extra support and hand holding that Apple and its Mac OS affords. Conversely, some people couldn't care about support and don't mind the nitty gritty, get your hands dirty approach of something like Linux.
Some people are also hardcore gamers, which pretty much puts Mac on the back burner.
Because Macs are a closed system there's also a higher level of built-in obsolescence. In a PC, when the hardware ages you can swap it out. You can pretty much do that until either your motherboard or case can't handle further upgrades. On the Mac side, many of the cases aren't designed with consumer end upgrades in mind. That greatly shortens the return on your investment.
Many people will cite the cliches about how Mac is more secure from both attacks and virii. However, the truth of the matter is that the larger installed user base on the PC end, as well as the anti-Microsoft hysteria, make Windows much more of a target than Macs
The idea that Mac is more stable is largely due to that closed system design. Same principle as with consoles. One spec. One set of problems. Fix for one system. Fix for all. However, it should also be noted that, as of SP1 & SP2, Vista is as stable of an OS as OSX. To be honest, I've had OSX crash more on me recently than Windows, which almost never crashes on me anymore.
Maybe you like a friendlier OS for your family. Maybe you want something that will work in concert with a large render farm. Your choice will be determined by a wide variety of factors.

You can make a case for either camp. You'd be right... from your perspective. No sense in fighting a fight that can't be won. That's like you trying to tell me that Maya is better when I can present a Cinema4D or 3DS user to you who can probably kick your butt thrice over. Likewise, you could probably prove that Maya is better.

Your choice of OS is as personal and your choice of 3D app. There's no winner. There never will be.

Again, the purpose of this thread is WHAT?

What a pointless thread. Nothing good can come out of it. Probably should have let it die instead of posting in it. :p

Y'know what? I'm just gonna lock it. I don't think that this will move in any direction that's productive or even mildly amusing.

I can see debating the merits of CG apps to a certain extent. Maybe we can each learn more about the apps we don't use, their hidden strengths and weaknesses. Debating which OS is best..... That's like asking, "Brunette or Redhead?"
