New domainname needed! Help out :)

Hehe hey dudes. Im in the process of getting a new domainname.

It has to be short, catchy and silly. So feel free to give suggestions. No offensive ones :)

Those names sound a bit... juvenile. You should probably just use your own name. For one thing, you're almost guaranteed that it's available. For another, as an artist, the site is going to revolve around you anyway. Might as well make it eponymous.

The association with the artist and site will be nicely intertwined. For example, I can never remember Lamont Gilkey's site without the aid of Google, but I never have trouble remembering Jamie Field's off the top of my head. Same with 2D artists and their blogs, such as Skottie Young. It won't be hard for somebody to remember the site URL as long as they remember your name.

It's not too original of an idea, but it's guaranteed to work in the long haul - well after you've grown tired of "short, catchy, and silly" names. It's also bit more mature, imho.

My own site looks like dogs*** right now, as it hasn't been updated in a while (or properly setup for that matter), but my URL is my name. It also works nicely for e-mail purposes. For me at least, that keeps me happy.

Agree with Cookepuss. Your own name is good for 'serious business'. All those Ratboot3D.whatever.com are annoyance and won't make you remembered. Poop being the difference, he's the only artist who's name and website I remember (neither being the same, as far as I'm aware ;) ). Then again its usually suggested that you wouldn't use your real name in internet wonderland, but... We're here for more serious business I'm certain of it. And besides, if no one knows your real name, no one can find you.. And on our career/hopes/such, someone finding us can be a good thing ;)

FredH (where has the - - gone?) however I disagree with. ArtByXXXXXX aren't much better than insertrandomtexthere.com in my humble onion. Semi-Initials can be good too. Ie if your name is John Bob Hawke, you could have be JBHawke or such, no one wants to write johnbobhawke.com (no offence if someone is named like that) or just firstname+surname (unless you have way too cool middlename)

partially I agree with cooke and fred... having your name in the URL is easy to remember, however if you feel something else is more reflective of your personality, or your name is particularly hard to spell, I could see you going with something else.

feng zhu has artbyfeng, and it works fine. craig mullins has goodbrush and it too works fine.

the one thing I would suggest is to pay particular attention to how 'easy to mess up' your domain name is.

for example: look at 30lives.com (my site) when I tell people the name verbally, it can be interpreted as thirtylives.com (spelled out)..which is not the same thing. If I write or type it, it can easily be mistaken as 3 olives.com---also not the same thing. Simply giving out a domain now becomes a small hurdle, which is really not all that good.

I´ve taken things and ideas from my old portfolio pages that people always have liked and complimented me for and tried to make it better. So here they are. I especially looked at my last page to get some ideas from that considering that i scored a job. (Maybe not with IT but it certainly didnt scare them off).

Menu icons are probably temporary but they get the idea across.

And yeah. Have fun!


EDIT: And for you nice and proper people. Im gnna register a nice and proper name aswell for business cards or something but this is the adress i will mainly use. And ive only heard mostly good things as of yet. :)
