Hey guys!!!

First of all, it's a pleasure to register on GA and start posting on the Comicon Challenge! I'm so excited to see what wonderful art this contest will bring to all of us!!!

So, my choice was megaman. First, I'm a HUGE Capcom fan! Second, I'm a HUGE megaman fan! Third, I think it's a lovely character but I didn't see anyone choosing him, so it seemed the best choice for me. I'm in love with the idea of exploring a new vision of him without losing the character personality.

I chose to make a Steampunk Megaman- I think his world can perfectly fit that particular mood that steampunk works has without losing that particular megaman feel we all love.

Well, let's get it started!!! Here are some is my character reference sheet and my references for creating the original character for the challenge:

As references, I chose the animated movie "Steamboy", from the master Katsuhiro Otomo, and Captain Sky and the World of Tomorrow, by Kerry Conran. This last one is more like a "pulp" movie, but I like the mood it has and I think it can serve to my purposes. Also, I found some good ol' boilers photos on net search and some cool Lego designs, that I think will work well with megaman design! :-)

I'll be posting more stuff very soon, so please come back to see it. Best luck to everybody!!!
Eduardo

Hey everybody!!!

I'm finally back, posting some more stuff here. This was an insane week and I'm happy I had time to continue on my megaman concept development. I'm sorry I didn't post before, but I was really dumped with work.

Thanks to everybody for the kind comments! JEAN, DIEGO: Thanks for the encouragement!!! It's always an honor to receive your appreciation! DIISSAR, DWINBOTP, Sorry for making you wait, guys... I promise I'll not do it again! :-)

I worked first with tonal roughs over scanned pencils (yeah, I'm old school :-P), where I'm trying to get to an acceptable design that not loses the feel of the original character on the general shape, so I put in mind to work with the same proportions of the original character instead of trying different ones. I also added one color schematic and one colored rough, where I'm concerned about working with the original character colors, light blue and blue (just adding some gray on the necessary places). I Also tried to add a back conteiner with a cable attached to his Mega Buster, which I found better to transform in a flame thrower, in order to fit him on the vitorian age. A plasma cannon would be too odd to fit there. So, it gives my back bag the function of carry some gasoline to feed the Mega Buster. :-D
I think that the colored one is very close to my final design, but, please, feel totally free to tell your opinions, I'd love to hear them!
Well, I just wrote enough! Let me show you the pictures!!!

Good luck to everybody!!!

Hey guys!

I changed my direction about the final concept a little bit. I did a couple more studies, trying to achieve a more robotic visual to megaman, put some lights, mechanic joints, etc, things that I think can add to a robot feel. Just realized that my previous concepts are too simple and decided to push it a bit more. Also, I didn't drop off the idea of the back bag and the napalm mega buster, but tried to change things a bit. I also added some exxageration on the shape concept in order to make the character more agressive and imponent. I Tried to add volume on the shoulders and chest in order to do it. Please tell me what you think about it guys!!!

Only a few days till the end of the contest, leeeeeeet's run, people!!! I'll post the model sheet and the final illustration roughs soon!!! Good luck everybody!!!

Yo man...

I really loved the Lights that you add. Good point.

How about a desaturated color pallete???? Maybe some rusted details on his armor.

I see that you´re trying to keep the original color pallete(and this is VERY GOOD) but I think that Steampunk allways fits with brownish colors.

Best wishes.

Hey, man.

Yeah, you're completely right. I was initially thinking about doing it all with that particular mood that Capcom always gives to megaman artwork, but it lacks a lot of more brownish tones. Thing are always too colored and happy. Not that I think this isn't good at all, I'm a Capcom fan, but it may be not the best option for my choice, and I'll definitely add some rusts and brown, gray and gold tones to him, at least in the final illustration. Thanks for the kind comment and for the help, man!

Just a quick color tweaking, but I think it can show how the colors can be in the final illo. :-)

Hey guys!!!

Quick update with the final illustration roughs. Which one you think is the better choice? I'm highly inclined to do number 3, the one with Dr. Wily's face at the BG, what do you think? :-D

Yo Bro,

How about:

Get #01 and add Doc Willy there in a 3/4 profile head or in his classic Evil laugh?

See ya.
