Smile Bubba Lego-Tep

Bubba Lego-Tep : available now!

----ORIGINAL THREAD-------

To break myself from BoobieBlog.com, I decided to throw together a little game mod. I've been at it for two evenings now, and here are some of the test results.

I designed this around a free model I found at TurboSquid. I am using that model's hair, but a MultiRes'ed version. All told, this model is 1050 polys and worth every last one of them.

The Stars Of The Show. (Elvis face was found in the Elvis UT2K3 model's UTX)

Some stretching before the big game...

There is an issue with a particular construction component piece and how it should get weighted...

Click HERE for an ingame AVI.

So, that's two days, and I imagine this little mod will be done in a few short weeks.

Thanks for reading!

oh my god, i saw this post and laughed out loud, bubba-ho-tep was like the best movie ever, and this is completely awesome.

one thing about it though, is that the photo faces on the lego people look very very strange. i think if you shopped them a bit and got the key features down from the actors and made them look like real lego people (aka cartoony) it would look, i don't want to say better, but it will look more like a lego game, if you haven't already look up lego star wars and see what they did with that it might give you some ideas.

anyway other than the faces, looks pretty good, ill definitely keep track of this thread.

It's best not to use wording such as "very very strange" as a reason to sway me from my original vision. No worries though, there is no vision with this project.

Seriously, thanks for the idea, I will give it a try. Again, the project is only a couple days old at the moment, so some things are bound to change.

But maybe not.

Cool
If anyone is interested in making a Lego prop or two for this mod (such as furniture), the characters are 3.5 Generic Max Units tall. The props are to look like they're made of blue, red, yellow, and white Lego bricks, so Diffuse textures can easily be a 16x16 TGA, named as "MyTexture_d.tga" where "_d" designates Diffuse, "_s" is Specular, and "_local" is the Normalsmap. Model format required is ASE textured with a single Diffuse image Standard material . The mod takes place in the "Shady Rest Convalescent Home" old folk's home located somewhere in East Texas.

Nice choice of characters to model. Fun movie.

Glad you moved from the photo textures. It was really hurting the look. You might want to adjust the sizes of the heads (smaller) and enlarge Bruce's hair. That Ossie Davis JFK made me chuckle to no end. The only noteworthy change to him would be to lessen the green in his skin tone.

Again, nice choice of characters to have fun with. You should try a Lego Ash (Evil Dead) next.

Thanks for the input.

I will tweak up Ossie's coloring.

Elvis' hair will have to stay as is, or the hair will change for all the models. I am using the same model for all the characters, just a texture swap using a Skin file. This saves on loading assets ingame. I have a headless version made that allows me to swap heads via script ingame which would allow for different hair, but then I have to kill that character as a ragdoll instead of having itm fall apart, as the heads do not disappear properly when attached in this manner. For the sake of the main characters, I suppose having its own mesh would be fine, but I enjoy using only exactly what is needed and getting rid of the rest. It's the editor in me. Then again, this is being seen through Elvis' eyes... Hmm, need to think about this....

As for your Evil Lego Dead idea, it almost makes me want to put this mod away....

But I won't! This mod will be done, THEN I'll get on to the next one.

Realistically, this shouldn't take more than a handful of weeks to complete. With what I have planned, it would take no more than two weeks full-time.

This is the funniest post ever, starting with the first line...lol

The mod is looking pretty cool...I imagine being able to blow up everything in the game eventually.

You have a vivid imagination! Without giving everything away, yes, I am working on ways to make things break apart. However, due to the linear fashion of the storyline for Bubba Lego-Tep, an entirely destructible environment would not be practical. I recommend keeping your eyes opened for a different mod also in development...

11 colors x 140 Lego pieces = over 1500 pieces to build with, and they all move!
