Dominance War III | MikiNohm | Aphotic Invoker
Dominance War III | MikiNohm | Aphotic Invoker
MikiNohm has entered the competition! APHOTIC INVOKER I call him an Aphotic Invoker. Basically because he's a Vampire Elf who is an insanely uber summoner. His real name is "Genoma Buma" (Buma pronounced like puma). You can see that his "wings" aren't exactly being used for flying. He has evolved (using some magic) them into a second pair of arms. They are physically powerful and can help him in melee combat, but they are rarely needed for that. He now uses magics to fly instead of wings. His artifact weapons are the former magic seal to the prison sarcophagus of a Vampire King, Dimitri. This Elf Invoker dissasembled the seal into three pieces which released the Vampire King. Our noble Elf was bitten as he killed Dimitri. He now uses two of the three pieces of the magic seal to augment his abilities. The seal was possessed by a powerful goddess named Knite Osabra who was split into three. Each piece has one element of her being imbued within it, passion, sadness and rage. Now renamed Yamazaki for the passion seal, Romanova for Sadness and Asagiri for the Rage piece. The Aphotic Invoker uses Yamazaki and Romanova. Asagiri was given to his warrior sister, Sylia... Here's the initial rough. Just kinda throwing paint at the wall.

Here are some roughs of the Yamazaki and Romanova seals. |

Late night update. Just cleaning up and refining some of the design.

Thanks for the encouragement. I like the Capcom design types, strong jaw, thick bodies, big hands/feet, etc... I'll stay up and do more drawing tonight, I went to bed early yesterday

Thanks, the "wings" attach at the same point that they normally would for a flying bat vampire guy. Toward the rear of the traps down to the bottom of the scapula. Though you're not going to be able to tell that by the illustrated concept. I'll detail it out in the orthos.

Did a little bit more cleanup work and refining the design. Added the sepia tone because the white "paper" was making my eyes strain.
Time to play some DOTA ![]() -MikiNohm |

Thanks for the compliments guys! I had wanted to enter the 3D comp too, but I don't think I'll have time for it. Especially with the rule of not using the 2D comp concept for the 3D concept. Also, I have a fulltime job and a family w/kids. Speaking of kids, my daughter was drawing on my cintiq tonight. She was making a hand monster, using her hands as outlines and also doing some portraits of her and I. She actually knows Photoshop and Artrage pretty well
The bottom left corner portrait is her and the one above it is me ![]() |

I've neglected to show my roughs but I've noticed that a lot of other threads have multiple thumbnails. So here they are, I think they look crappier than the one that I've moved forward with. Started by loosening up with monster scribbles (1) and progressed to something that looks more like the Aphotic Invoker (4). Anyone like any of the ones I've skipped on?

Finished the basic concept and I've started to bring in some light shading. Is this working for you guys or do you think it needs to be in a more dynamic pose for the "beauty" shot? I'm kinda leaning towards a redo of the pose before I start painting it up. But he is just a summoner, not a ninja...decisions, decisions.

You should be getting more interest than you are currently. This is by far one of the coolest concepts I've seen so far in the DW. Well done.

Hi ,
I really like how it's turning out. My only comment is that those shoulder pads might constrict the way he moves his arms when moving them upwards. That may be clarified in the other views though. I really like those angels coming out of those blades. keep it up! |

Thx MonteCristo
![]() Facosta, it hadn't occured to me that the shoulders would be an issue. But I totally see what you're saying. I'll probably have to alter the materials from a metal to something more flexible for the upper shoulder pad or add a separate pad there. I have hinges already built into the frontal and rear parts of the shoulder pad. I'm glad that you like the angels/goddesses. -MikiNohm |
