Hello all.
I'm kind of new here (entered the dominance war 3 contest but over at CGSociety), saw the news mail about the comicon challenge and just had to join in.

I decided to pick a less known villain, Killer Frost.
Did some research (haven't heard of her before) and found out that she absorbs heat to produce cold. She can make ice objects like daggers etc. and freeze stuff. Loves to freeze foes in place and then kiss them to suck their heat out and freezing them to death.

I began with googling for some refs. I really like the middle bottom pic.

Some progress to show I'm actually doing something.
A front view. She has so many different costumes, but I went with this one. Going to experiment with other hairstyles too. Any suggestions?

I like your progress so far. I think you are right about hairstyles, she looks very ordinary shoulders up. maybe try something bigger. The bouffant from the comic is great and all, but you could really go nuts with it if you wanted to. Maybe look for some hair magazine stuff? I don't have a pic, but maybe something teased and threaded. could also fros it like a fake xmas tree. Cool start, looking forward to more.

she's also fairly real world anatomic right now you might generate some more interest lengthening the legs and shortening the torso a bit.

Thanks.
Yeah will definitely try other hairstyles, this one now was just a quick so she wouldn't be bald.
Anatomy wise I planned to do a more realistic picture of her, but maybe it won't be as interesting to look at then. Hmm.

6 new hairstyles. I kind of like classic looking one, E.
Comments most welcomed.

The mandatory comic cover.
Haven't seen this one, gave me some more ideas.

Wow she's beautiful, she looks like Rachel Leigh Cook.

I like C hair style.

I like E hairstyle,

but checking your reference
i think the one that sells the character best
as a "frost" one, is the white spike hair,
like if its made of ice or has some frozen parts.

but the last reference looks good too,
could bring other possibilities,
either way, good job :-D

I think the E hairstyle has more movement around the face and makes it more interesting...it would be interesting with a character name like Killer Frost if you played with something a bit more extreme or deadly in the costume or hair...spikier is what naturally comes to mind. But this is looking great, just food for thought.

I agree - I like hairstyles E & F most - but more with E. Again, spiky comes to mind first for the ice thing, but then it's more reason to stay away from it. Maybe just sprinkling some ice or frost around the tips and in through the hair (like highlights) - considering how long wet hair gets when it freezes - sorta clumps together and hangs stiff at whatever angle it was at...I know the feeling well... looks great so far!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Here's some more progress, I've been lazy but the deadline is getting closer so have to continue. Working on the head of the side view now, have trouble getting it right. Is the arm necessary in a sideview?
Model sheet w.i.p.

Hello. I like your progress so far. I am thinking the bodice goes to far away from her chest? The hands and feet are looking nice. I like the most recent ref pic you posted, and hope whatever hair you choose you and some cool icy embellishments. good work.

Thanks!
I'll play with the clothing some more, nothing wrong with showing some more skin.
Her hair will probably be what I will experiment with the most, since I want to keep her original outfit (one of them at least). I'm going with your suggestions, some ice in her hair, probably in the shape of a crown... sort of. 9 days left... eek.

I feel complete with the model sheet, I lowered the bodice and gave her the classic old hairstyle. What you think? Something I missed?
(I desaturated the image on purpose, if I understood correctly they did not want colors for the model sheet)

I'm really liking your take on Frost man, Are you gonna add ice shards on her hair? that'd be cool! One thing I would like to mention though, Her breasts are kinda low in their current position, placing them higher would make them look more full Just my two cents man, keep it up!(no pun intended)

Haha thanks dwinbotp, you are probably right. I'll see what I can do about that.

Here's my very rough sketches (really need to start on the final image now). I'm not very good at poses, so this was slow for me. Which one appeals to you?

> C&C welcomed (the faster the better )

My thoughts about them:
1. I'm happy with this one, maybe she's leaning a bit too much though.
2. Hmm, just feels weird.
3. Don't like this one, she doesn't 'look' dangerous.
4. Maybe. I want her to flirt with us, the viewers, while there's a frozen body under her in ice.
5. Similar to 2 but with a 'cooler' pose.
6. Found this pose by Mark Heike <link to image>, so I made a similar pose. Maybe not such a good idea?
7. I like this one, coming right at us. And I get to do a pretty detailed face up-close.
