Dominance War IV - 2D - Nether - Varnak the Everfrozen
Whoopeee! The war has begun. With a lot of options to choose from. I can't make up my mind, though I am more than tempted to go for a demon character.

I'll post some sketches, hopefully soon.

Here are some early sketches. Going for a demon character for sure.

Fire spewing demon lord. It has multiple limbs for scything and mangling opponents as well as a spiked tail in case of back attacks. The mouths in it's belly vomit hot magma for those unfortunate to try and attack it's belly.

Armoured demon princess of darkness. Ensnares and sucks the life force of opponents with it's retractable vampiric tentacles portruding from her back. Also employs a living demon sword in close combat and darkness spells for long ranged combat.

Might still do something completely different. More sketches coming up.

great concepts, the tentacle's beginning at the back is good. even like the whole style the demon princess looks. but by the side, if you had not written that it is a princess, i had never knew so

couple things what if the demon sword was more integrated with the arm since the tentacles are a part of her maybe the it could be as well. I also didnt get anything feminine out of the image I would show of more of the silhouette and lengthen the arms.

Gutsandbolts & Max Schulz Thanks for the feedback. I realized myself that the feminity of my demon princess had been lost when I slapped some armor on her.

Still, decided to scrap my previous ideas and go for a new one insted. Been playing around with this concept of a Demon Lord trapped in magical ice and rendered immobile. However the the demon would slowly be absorbing the ices power and thawing it as well as employing it against his foes. The lord would be carried around in a hovering platform pulled by undead minions and accompanied by his Herald who would function as his voice to his subordinates.

Here's an early draft of what I was thinking about. Might change the design of the demon as well as the platform entirely, though. (notice GA logo on the Heralds staff)

Very nice crawler, maybe you can make the head even more dragon-ish. The mouths under the body are cool

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

Sketched loads of crap today, but managed to salvage some decent ones from among them. Here's a collage of them:

My concept and design are starting to find shape. Realized that I was juggling with three concept designs at the same time: Varnak(demon lord), Herald(demon prince?) and Undead servants(Abomination). Oh, and the friggin ice spirits on top of that as well. This starting to get out of hand.
figured I'd try to implement some of my earlier sketches on to this, for example giving some of that spiky armour everyone seem to have liked, to the undead servants or the herald.

Any thoughts and critique are most welcome.

Nice head sketches The Varnak is nice aswell, but is it allowed to show a demon lord and the servents in one picture?

The lord leaning on his stick, (right bottom) looks more sad than powerfull, so watch out with him

Max Schulz I also like the second face the best. Hope I can integrate the Herald in the final without breaking the rules.

Dwinbotp Thanks. More Varnak coming up.

Mittmac Thanks you. I'm not sure if other characters are allowed on the pic. I will have to investigate. I was going more for an expressionless mask rather than sad, so I'll have to think on that. (oh and that's the Herald not the lord leaning on the staff)

xdupox Thanks. Glad you like.

After a whole day drawing storyboards, I sketched some more of Varnak himself. Tilted the eye in his chest 90 degrees and added some horns.

Couldn't resist adding that Jeff Dunham line in there.

Alexson Thanks man! I'm liking it more and more myself.

As an overall statement, I just took a look at the rules for DW4 and it states that demons are not allowed vehicles. Not sure if my iceberg-platform-thingamajig counts as a vehicle, and if it does my concept will go straight down the pooper and I'll have to think of something else.

Silence! I kill you! lol, nice start, you've got some interesting sketches going on, my favorite would have to be that "Varnak the ever frozen" sketch in the upper left corner, with all the undead abominations carrying this big chunk of ice, dunno about the DW4 rules, it's not really a vehicle IMHO, otherwise you'll have to go back to the drawingboard lol, keep it up man.

Strange; I was convinced that I had commented here already...

I think the Idea of a demon, frozen in mid movement/emotion is a really good one.
And regarding the vehicle bit - Im sure there's a workaround for that; maybe the ice block could be hovering by itself - and getting dragged/pushed along by the abominations. Or you could try and integrate the dais, into the demons' body...
P.S. a 'Silence I Kill yoo!' sign would look cool around his neck
