Dominance War IV - 2D - Gill Bates - Rift Reaper
Gill Bates has entered the competition!
Quote:
DOMINANCE WAR IV THREAD SUMMARY Character Race: Demons Character Names/Classes: Rift Reaper (Demon Abomination), Phantom Nebula (Demon Lord), and Kurai (Demon Prince) Character Descriptions: The demons in my concept all wield the power of "phantom energy" (based on the Big Rip Theory) - capable of tearing matter apart on a molecular level, and controlling gravity (Death/Darkness). The Rift Reaper's bone matter is very similar to metal. It can actually be forged and shaped as it grows from its body. His spine branches off in 3 directions. One for his head, the other 2 form the tusk blades. His fists are wrapped in barbed wire to tear apart his adversaries. His tail also packs quite the punch. The Demon Lord, Phantom Nebula, sports two huge black holes under his armpits. He has the ability to tear holes in the fabric of space and time and generate a dimensional rift in his massive belly. So the only way the Norms and Machines can close these rifts is to slay the Demon Lords. There are hundreds of them! Kurai is a Demon Prince who dematerializes his enemies with his phantom energy and sucks their matter into the black hole embedded in his chest. Even his shoulder dragon pets shoot phantom energy. His weapon is an ornately carved Rift Reaper tusk blade. ![]() ![]() ![]() Character Race: Norms Character Names/Classes: Gideon (Norm Warlord), Nevaeh (Norm Clericon), Zion (Norm Invoker), and Omega (Norm Stalker) Character Descriptions: In my Norm concept, the source of their magic power is the blood of Divine Descendants, who are the Clericons and Invokers. The Divine Descendants' celestial blood is used to defend Warlords and Stalkers by enchanting their armor and weaponry. The Norms are represented by the Gye Nyame, an Adinkra symbol of "God's supremacy". Gideon is one of the many Warlords that lead the Norm army. Each Warlord paints their own 'totem' mask for war (i.e. a lion face, a ram head, etc.). Gideon's choice is the skull. The divine blood feeds into his magic battle sword and enhances its decimating capability. When not in use, the sword actually collapses upon itself for more convenient compact storage and travel. Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards) is a deathly sexy Clericon who manipulates her own powerful magic offensively and defensively. She can curse and blast her enemies, and she can also enchant Norm armor and weaponry and create protective shields that surround the entire Norm army. Her magical artifact is encased in her 'chastity' belt. Next is Zion, a kinetic Invoker. He uses a series of orchestrated movements to basically cast a spell, both offensive and defensive. They can be as simple as small finger gestures, or as complex as full body motion sequences. Kinetic Invokers are usually older as it takes many years to master this craft. They use less armor so it won't restrict their range of motion, not that they need much armor due to their speed and agility. Unlike the typical casters they are mid-range combatants. His sleeve gear is his artifact. It contains the blood of a Master Elder and enhances his offensive spells. My Stalker's name is Omega. Basically her two hand cannons actually combine to form her artifact, a double barrel sniper rifle. She has a hud in her goggles that allows her to see what her guns are targeted on, so no scope is necessary. As for the ammo, the gun fires magic bursts generated by the blood cell on the gun for short to medium range combat . However when Omega combines the handguns to make the double barrel sniper rifle it uses a projectile that is filled with blood and it's adorned with magical enchants. These projectiles are about a foot in length and are stored in the long pockets around her thighs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Character Race: Machines Character Names/Classes: Doomsday (War Machine), D.O.V.E. (Machine Scout), and Prophet (Machine Cyborg) Character Descriptions: My Machines are called AzTecs because my concepts for this race are inspired from Aztec artifacts. The 'Az' is in reference to the color blue (azure) as all the machines are water/steam powered. The 'Tec' is in reference to their superior technology. The Machines are immaculate and very methodical. Doomsday is an extremely massive and formidable War Machine. When it's in dormant form, it compacts upon itself and takes the shape of an Aztec style pyramid, serving as a protective home base for the Machine race. But when called upon in battle, it exponentially transforms into a combative giant with devastating damage capability. In its combative form, Doomsday's 'pauldrons' rob clouds of their moisture to help power the robot and generate its energy, like a thunderstorm does. A Machine Scout is called D.O.V.E. - Acronym TBD - named after the bird it is were designed after. D.O.V.E.s are expendable. They can survey/scout and remotely beam back info via advanced Bluetooth technology. They are able to slide back their breast armor to reveal a powerful laser. They are also equipped with very powerful explosives and can kamikaze if the need arises. Their beaks and the front edge of their wings are razor sharp, perfect for cutting off Norm and Demon heads during flybys! Messiah is one of the Machine Cyborgs designed to deceive and ultimately destroy their enemies. They consider Norm emotions their greatest weakness and exploit it extremely well. Their organic masks, made of flesh, are designed specifically to shift and display different faces and expressions of another race, thus tricking the enemy into thinking they are actually an ally. The Cyborgs most successful exploitation happened early on in the war by convincing Norms that aren't of divine lineage that the use of magic and blood was blasphemous. They reinforced this epic hoax by convincing many Norms that Machines were in fact holy beings. This ultimately pit Norm vs. Norm, resulting in global wars that caused Norm deaths on a massive scale. Prophets also used their influence to hypnotically draw Norms in and gather them in large groups in order to dispatch them efficiently. Messiah also commands an array of Disciple-bots, Cyborg pets designed to look like adolescent children, and they can be particularly vicious! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I't a good first sketch, Gill, now just keep drawing! Push that silhouette further, especially those teensy wings. Good luck!

pretty badass! I like the mask-like face. Enlarge the arms and legs, maybe? He looks like a living tank.

Prischool: Thanks! I think it makes them feel more dynamic. The funny thing is I'm like that in life. I always have to have air moving or something moving to feel comfortable. The only downside is my wife gets cold easy
Walrus: Thanks man! I played with the scale of the wings while working on this sketch. My initial concern was the wings weren't large enough to carry his mass. However as the idea developed a bit his control of gravity would make carrying him light work. So they basically became super sexi shoulderpads, and with that in mind i didn't want them to become too overwhelming. I will give it another go over when I begin to flesh him out, and if they feel to hoaky I will definitely beef them up a bit. Rayph: Thanks I will definitely be pushing them further as the piece progresses. I was considering making his gloves phantom energy claw weapons. Or I may just give him a weapon. Mittmac: Thank you sir! Man this comp has me so hype! Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I will be back soon with more arts! =D Last edited by Gill Bates : 03-16-2009 at 11:17 AM. |

Too bad he doesn't get big, impressive wings, but those shoulder pads are pretty sexy. Nice idea with the gravity control.
Looking forward to seeing more of this. You're off to a fantastic start. |

Fusspot: Wewtz thanks! My demon concept has roots in the Big Rip theory. Its a very interesting theory, I think they could have come up with a less comical name though. Especially considering the gravity of the situation, or rather the lack thereof...lol!

excellent Idea, oddly enough my Frost DemonLord was going on a similar plane - looks like I'll have to pull some Originality out of my proverbail and work harder!
