Hey guys, been mulling this over and taking this into work for crit and the main thing that concerns people is the silhouette. Sooooooo ive done some thumbnails and was wondering which one looks workable. I might mix and match features to try and get the best fit.

Im still going to go with the ice/toad style creature. But I don't want it to be completely based on a toad. More like an anthropomorphic mix so I don't limit myself to a specific set of features.

Hey guys thanks for your feedback. I've taken the images into work and it seems that number 3 is the preferred choice due to its bulk and also the weapon that accompanies it.

I think I'm going to go with a pirate theme for the frog and make it similar to rv_el's entry last year (Rubik Cube creature). Perhaps kit it out with a pirate hat, wooden leg (complete with frog-like joints) and a nice jacket.

I've created a base mesh for the high poly, over-emphasizing the body and arms and giving him smaller (but not minuscule) legs as the body is where I want most of the focus to be.

Obviously now he's not a demon lord any more so i'm changing his class to Norm Warlord.

Of course, all crits are welcome.

Right, ive sculpted the main muscle detail into my base mesh to outline the form. Later, im gonna refine this and then add all the little details.

Ive been using references from both male bodybuilders and the Hekel race (from Guild Wars).

Right guys, relatively big update here. Ive done some more sculpting however im not sure of the level of detail that I should go with.

The top image has an extra detail layer whilst the bottom layer doesn't. I'm thinking of going for something in the middle to try and balance everything out.

Also, i've done a couple more thumbnails regarding the clothing/armour detail.

My main worry now is that no matter what kind of detail I choose the character as a "whole" may look a little lacking in detail. So now, im not sure whether to go entirely overboard with armour/decor etc to really build on the silhouette or add another character (i.e. pet) to help fill things up.

Ive also started building the weapon (anchor) in Max however im still not sure how im going to do it (sculpting or hard surface) so its not finalised.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I like this enormous toad.

I like the pirate and gladiator (1,4) versions best.

I'm not sure about the weapon. It would depend on the setting.Pirate=anchor. Gladiator=small sword and shield.

Space toad... laser blaster.

I like 3, the armour, especially the helmet, is very unique.

Also yeah; having a frog in this comp is a must!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. Yeah I really like the idea behind 1 (pirate theme, anchor, etc) but obviously its just getting the silhouette and detail level right.

Ive quickly concepted up a sidekick if I do go with number 1 (kind of like a Smee to Captain Hook). Hopefully this would work.

Hey guys,

started adding some clothing and accessory details which I intend to sculpt into as well as minor changes to the original mesh (i.e. smaller head, level of detail).

I will still be going for the wooden leg theme to see how it works.

I think you should go back to reworking his base sculpt, and form before you do all the clothes. The detailing is nice, but doesn't really show much in the way of refining his body shape. I think you can make him much more dynamic and exciting.

Hey guys, again thanks for the feedback.

Ive decided now that instead of throwing loads of clothes on him, im going to limit him to a hat, trousers and a single strap around his chest/stomach. Hes also now got a shell as a sort of makeshift shield. Ive refined the sculpt a bit to try and add more shape and now im thinking about whether I should give him some sort of steed (i.e. a fat seahorse, turtle to carry him around).

Heres the base mesh for the anchor too.

K guys, i've re-evaluated the whole idea of creating the frog creature and come up with new concepts (not frog related). For me, it seems as though the frog is too closely related to swamp/rainforest themes and really doesnt fit with the deep sea theme. So ive done some realllyyyyyy quick (as its getting close to 1am) thumbnails exploring different and more interestinf silhouettes.

Out of all of them, I see 2 being my personal favourite as it has the octopus body supporting it, coupled with a mutated torso/head and a single crab arm (very one winged angel).

Right guys, got a base mesh ready and waiting to be sculpted on. Before I start though, I want to make sure that the proportions look spot on. Some notes about the silhouette and detail of the model.

* There will be 7 and a half tentacles (one has been cut off).
* CONEHEAD!!!!. His head will encompass a shell, covering his face (think Pyramid Head mixed with the shellhead pirate from PotC2).
* The left side of the torso will slowly mutate from humanoid-esque to lobster.
* His right side will mostly encompass shell, barnacles, weeds, etc (again, think the pirates from POTC2).
* The reason he hasn't got any fingers on his right hand is because im going to sculpt them in instead of modelling them :P.
