Dominance War IV - 2D | B-Russ | Abiteth
Greetings!

Wow...This entire competition is really really cool! I cant believe this has been going on right underneath my nose. The talent that I have seen so far is absolutely amazing...and inspiring! So I have decided to give this a shot...a long shot! My goal at the end of all this is to have a solid portfolio piece and learn as much possible.

I haven't quite settled on a particular race yet...Demons jumped at me first, then Norms. But I came up with a mini story to get me going.

-With the Norms on the retreat they have fled to the seas for survival. They have utilized their magic powers to create underwater colonies and carry out the rest of their lives. Machines have taken over land and in an attempt to destroy the rest of the Norms have unlocked a destructive race of Demons!!!! Fully capable of land and sea domination.-

Anyway, with that said I have fleshed out some ideas for the Demon Race. I'm shooting for a Demon Prince with aquatic/reptilian features...since some species of reptile can migrate both land and sea with relative ease. I'm trying to stay away from the typical demon look, but still stick within the guidelines of the competition. Ohh...and by the way if I have violated any rules PLEASE let me know. I'm new to this whole thing! This is what I got so far....

I'm leaning towards #1 right now, but I would like to add more armor and clothing to him. He has a highly developed sense of smell, but is blind as a bat. Anyway, feel free to comment. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

Thanks!

Well...here is some studies I did to get a feel for what this guy's armor might look like. The idea of having some sort of fur or hair incorporated into his gear is appealing to me because I plan on giving him some sort of cold fusion power. Not really sure yet. Anyway, I'm thinking of doing some other variations and styles for this character all together. Not sure if I'm heading in the right direction. Who knows...

Awesome stuff so far! I'm really liking the top row of heads in your last post - #1 might be my favorite.

I want to see more silhouettes though, and switch up the horn designs too (maybe even see what he looks like without horns for a couple designs.

I can't wait to see more man, keep it up!

Awesome initials! in my opinion, I like no.6. Giger said its more scary if the creature had no eyes. And I dont see his eyes quite good. That others kind of make him look goofy or less intelligent.

Of the posed shots, I like the hunched over ones like 2 and 3 best, but 3 works better for me because of the thick head and neck rather than the skinny one - more warlike as it's more meaty and strong. As for the helms, I like A best - dunno why, just the nice tall silhouette, but I am not sure how well that would work with the body #3. Good luck and have fun!

Yes!...Thank you very much for the feedback! I wasn't sure if I was heading in the right direction and this totally helps.

R0oK- I owe you one. Thanks man. I have a couple silhouettes already knocked out and when I get a few more good ones I'll post em'. Good call on the horns too!

Mukhtar- I reeeally like the idea of having my demon with no eyes! And I'm stoked that someone else likes it too! Thanks.

walrus- I'm having a blast so far...especially since I'm starting to get some constructive feedback. So thank you. As for the helmets...I assume your speaking of helmet #1 in which case I like that one too. I'm definitely going to try and fit that helmet on a body type similar to #3. Why not. Might be cool.

great work! for me, from the first sketches body #3 and the head of body #1 (with those strange protuberance in substitution of the horns) and for the armour i'd like to see #1 with something that hide the eyes as mukhtar saw... i believe in giger's law! ehehehe

So I've been really busy lately and haven't had much time to work on my DW4 entry. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks I will have more to post. Anyway here are some thumbnail silhouettes I did. I plan to incorporate at least some of the elements that you guys liked from the first two posts so please don't think that your feedback was ignored.

I feel like I'm getting closer to the character that I want, but I'm not quite there yet. I really like #2 on the 3rd page. He seems to have a creepier feel than the others. However, I might have to tone down the crazy head dresses because I do eventually have to turn the character around. hehe. And I'm still brainstorming ideas as to what type of fusion power to give this guy.

Your feedback is more than appreciated and I hope to post more frequently.

Awesome stuff man. I agree that #2 on page 3 is working the most, but that head dress on page 2 is sick too! Really original and powerful looking imo. It'd be interesting to see these guys posed more in that lizard style you had goin' on in your first post.

But yeah, kick ass!

tipa_graphic : Thanks...hopefully I will be able to finish!

rihlah : Thanks for the feedback. I"m definitely going to hide the eyes.

animsen : Thank you very much.

Davek : Yep...I am new to DW and its been a ton of fun so far! Thanks for the comments.

Gill Bates : Thanks man. More to come!

R0oK : Yeah...I like that head dress too! But to me...he looks really strong and would probably use his brute strength instead of some kind of magic power. For that reason. I think I'm going to go for something closer to #2 on page 3. In a lizard pose. Good call!

Great demon design, I think the one with the wide horns works best as a prince. The horns offer a regality the last one does not. The last sketch looks more like a meat n' potatoes warrior. But nice work all around. Custom brush for the tail? Can't wait to see your take on the machines.

Been working hard to pump these things out. Currently Im working on different variations of the tail...which for now, I have decided to make his fusion power. More details later. I have also come up with a few names for this guy..."Abiteth" meaning devourer, beast, thing that destroys, tears, and bites into pieces. Or "Leviathan" which is a biblical name of a demonic water dragon. Not sure which one to go with yet, but I think both names suite the character quite well.

Right now I think #1 on page 1 is working the most. Once again your feedback is greatly appreciated. Enjoy!

Very impressive renderings man - I'm really interested to see your work flow sometime. I really like the blue'ish coloration the most for this guy, and I agree that #1 on #1 is a really cool costume - maybe combine those 2?

As far as names, both are cool. Abiteth is less common though so that gets my vote.

Thank you for all the feedback I have been given thus far....

With the deadline coming up fast I need to get going on my illustration. Here is what I got so far. From the beginning I had always had this idea of my demon residing in some sort of sea cave with skulls and bones littering the area. I also really liked the idea of having some sort of underwater scene so I split the composition and devoted the bottom portion of the frame to an underwater scene with coral, barnacles, etc. Not sure if its going to work yet. Im also thinking about turning my demons head possibly the right side of the frame just cuz It might be more interesting. dunno.

Your feedback is much appreciated and encouraged. Enjoy.
