Ok this is my progress for the day. Brought it up to 2396 tris.
Rounded off the muzzle, ears, horns, gave him real paws and bigger weapons. Can't think of what else can be done without it being an unnecessary use of tris

christoph84: You only have two loops for the knees, which I think are going to deform and stretch quite a bit if you bend the leg; that's a minor technical nitpick, though, since the model looks great and is easily recognisable as both the cosplayer and the cosplay .

The first member of the duo is nearing completion. My father could already guess who he was supposed to look like, so it should be guessable by now.

(and a wireframe, as requested )

Joxx- Absolutely beautiful texture work so far, I agree with Joey Spijkers, removing the detail in the inner part of the eye gives her a much more Asian look. Can't wait to see more, you always do such excellent work.

Frump- Beautiful sculpt, it looks like the normals are gonna bake perfect, can't wait to see it.

BARON_3D- Who is this character? I don't know what video game character this is, but he looks awesome so far. Man especially the detailing on the coat, looks great!

Integrated: I cant thank you enough for your input, Store MT for the win!!

I started working on some texturing on the face lots of work to go. It took me an entire evening to figure out how to install the PSD path unwrapper for 3DS Max. OMG. But finally I figured it out and now I can start painting.

Here is Another little update on my Cammy/Tifa.
I still have to: put an expression on that neutral face,
texture the hairs properly,
create all the geo and texture on the parts that requires a transparency map,
pose her,
and, if i have the time before the weekend, do a beauty shot !
Oh and i am 30 polys over the limit right now but it will be a easy fix.

Crits and cc's are welcome =)

Wow! Everyone's made such great progress in the last couple days!

MDR - I'm going with the Dragon from the first Panzer Dragoon. Always liked that design a bit more and figured it might be a bit more recognizable?

Joxx - That texture is looking Awesome. Can't wait to see it all laid out flat.

Took a crack at changing up the poly flow I was using for the eyelids, just took a circle, tweaked it how I wanted and I think that gave me a bit nicer shape for the top part of the eyes and the lids. then I just added some polys in between the lid and the nose to round out the eyes. Not terribly satisfied with it but it will do unless I have a sudden bit of inspiration on how to do it better. Maybe an entirely separate object for the eye?

Otherwise I'm at 2594 tris and all I have left to do is the wings, which I think shouldn't be too heavy, so if anyone has some suggestions on where I might need an extra loop or two, I'd love to know.

I think I'll take a pass at trying to normal map the armor as well. I've never tried it before, and I remember reading somewhere that you can't mirror Normal Maps, so the entire armor pieces will have to have to be laid out, right?

This is the best I have going so far. It's really just a base. I tried to get more of the shape down than the details. Maybe I've been drawing too much and can't seperate the two now.

SASIN, Wevlen, AnthonyA: Thanks

seven: Ask and ye shall receive.
I really like the way your Earthworm Jim is looking. Having just played some Punch Out on the Wii, I have to say the resemblance is wonderful.

Wevlen: nowhere in the rules does it say you have to use all 3000 tri. That is just the max, if you are happy with what you have then don't worry about using every last tri. However, if you do have extra tri, I would recommend smoothing him out a bit more. The ears and tail could still benefit from a few tri if you have them to spare.

Konamicode: Looking good, but his face seems a bit thin, maybe it's just the angle...

FirstKeeper: The textures look great. Are those renders using a 512 map, or are you using a larger working file, because they look amazing.

Finished up the low poly, I have a whopping 4 tri to spare. I hope to have him unwrapped and the first pass of textures applied by tomorrow.

wow, there are so many great entries and ideas here.

@Joey Spijkers thank you for your comment, I will fix the knees and I think the ellbows could get the same treatment
Your Freeman looks just hilarious, love it.
Looking forward to see Alyx as Max

@YdoUwant2know thought your concept was already awesome, but as I see your model is as well, I'm excited to see Mario with war paint.

@DisorientedArt Your tigger is, even in that base mesh, already recognisable, but I think he could deserve one or two edgeloops at his arms, so you could better add details in zbrush or mudbox without distortion.

@seven great Earthworm Jim

@dimperioa you totally nailed it, but as you said your texture is looking a bit muddy, I think some details and shadows/highlights could do it

@everyone else there are, as I said, so many great entries that its nearly impossible to comment all of them. The quality of the works is just top-notch as allways
I'm really excited to see them all finished

The missing tail is now in plus some detail for his belt.
The tri count is now 3939k

Let me know what you all think before is stat the unwrapping.

everyone is doing some great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wevlen: Yup, here's the start I have on the texturing.

TheQiwiMan: Thanks a lot, glad you like it. The normals did bake out pretty well, I think.

dudidam: Thanks for your comments. I also didn't think the normals would turn out well.

YdoUwant2know: That looks great man, good Mario likeness. Should be fun to see it textured.

Joey Spijkers Great job with the textures! Definitely recognizable.

BARON_3D: Looks rad, but there's only 6 more days! Get it baked and ready!

Whew, lots to comment on. Time for some WIP journal.

So I spent today finalizing the UV layout, using a different style than normal, flattening out the borders. And really, I kind of live it, so sexy and clean.

I also found out during baking that I had some evil double faces and n-sideds. After cleaning them up I was back under 3000. So naturally I added more stuff to reach exactly 3000 and not waste a single tri.

Other than that I did some baking and test baking. Normals turned out good, occlusion turned out crap, but I only ever planned to use the occlusion as a guideline anyway. Base colour is laid down, it looks odd on the model so I'm just showing the map for now...

Below is the normals + occlusion applied to the model and the 512 texture as it is now...

Looking very nice frump

Been tweaking the model further and trying to steal extra polys.I wasnt happy still with mickey's mouth and eye brows so have been tidying em up.
I also missed out edge loops for knees,,doh silly me.
The claws after close examination I found were a tad long so have been shortend and a few vert welds to get a sharp edge,I also added to the end of the blades the bit they pretrude from.

Poly count now at 3973k tris

All in all I think im now ready to unwrap.
