Very creepy and cute. An odd combination that is spotted instantly and remembered for a long time. Your modelling is top notch and I love how you handled the face. Keep going!
Pixelato7- thanks a lot. I'm going to try and do most of it without normals (high poly sculpt and baking) as it's been a long time since I've made a character with only modeling and bump/diffuse/spec. We'll see.
Elcura - thanks very much for the kind words.
Hay Draxxuss.
Nature boy is looking really nice:thumb:. all of the character and style from your concept is really transferring well to your 3D. With the character the way it is and the simplicity of his design I don't think you really need to worry about a sculpting pass. It could fall either way. Just my opinion but I don't really it like when people include normal maps when they are not really necessary.
Either way man awesome work as usual, I am keen to see some more.
Looking solid, Draxxuss. Your interest in the most parculiar things come to light once againThe model is looking solid, and precise to the concept no crits here. Keep on rocking my friend.
Duncan - thanks so much. Yah I hadn't really planned on a normal pass with this guy. I'm focusing more on the modeling aspect instead of sculpting and retoping with a normal pass .. definitely two different styles of creation that is good to practice once in awhile.
Cold - Thanks man. peculiar hmm... really? I suppose I've got my share of strange looking things... ha ha. thanks again.
an update.
adding more geometry. About 10 hours into the modeling altogether. I figure another 5 or 6 and I'll be ready to texture.
btw.. going to do some 3d Printing this week with this guy. Testing out the hardware here at the college. Once he is rigged I'll eventually make a better pose with a pedestal. I'll take a pic of the results when I get them later this week.
Looking pretty good man. Interesting design, and it seems like you're hitting it pretty spot on.
In the concept, the eyelids have this really interesting curve that the model doesn't have. Like the top eyelid sortof sweeps up at the inner point. Also, the top part of the nose could probably be a lot thicker near the brow.
Are you going to texture this? I think you could hit a pretty interesting look for this thing.
Good stuff man :mugs:
Hey Big John, I changed the eyelids up a bit as they were going to be awkward to open and close when animated. Keep in mind the drawing has a more open eyed look while the model is roughly in the middle of the blink where it should be for rigging purposes. I agree with the top part of the nose being different than the drawing. I've been back and forth on that point trying different upper nose shapes. I'm still not 100% on this version but then again.. it can always change. AND seeing as it is MY design and not a client's..I can do as I please. But you are correct nonetheless.
Yes I am going to texture this but I'm going to try to stay away from normal maps this time around... just for something different and "old skool".
I love how he's coming along. The hair is incredible!

some extra tweaks... trying some different pants cuffs. I think these are more interesting. Still working on the seams. Fixed the nose, John.
Hay Draxxuss.
I am digging on the progress but I have to say I think I preferred his overalls with the torn off and ragged edges. The old pants had a great well worn feel to them that worked so well with the nomadik description he is given in the song. The full length pants however cool I think make him look a bit too clean, Just my opinion. Which ever you go for I am sure you will make it rock!
Hi there
Great design
On your concept I like how the nose gets into the forehead by getting widder. You lost that in your 3D piece imho. I hope you see what I mean
Just my 2 cents
Keep up the great work!
Duncan - thank for the input. I struggled back and forth with the cuff idea. I like this way. I like it the other way. I had to choose. don't forget I will "wear" them with texture so they will seem travel worn for sure.
Bohemond - thanks. I actually did make it closer as Big John had mentioned this same thing a few posts back... it is hard to tell from that angle. I will look at it again and see if I feel it needs to be pushed further or not. Thanks very much for the input and kind words.
So today I went down to the Industrial wing of the college and brought Nature Boy with me. He is being 3d printed as you read this. Should be finished tomorrow around noon. 22 hours to print it at about 8 inches tall. Just a test print to see what kind of resolution the machine will print at and how detailed I can expect the model to turn out. I'll keep you posted with pics when I get it.
ok.. printed out.. pretty cool and great to actually feel something I had sitting in my head. It was mainly a test print to see what kind of detail I could get at a certain size of statue. Now I know and now I can adjust the mesh to suit. It took about 24 hours for entire process.
:lucky: Nice... Did you print this yourself or did you have a company do it, and if so who?
This was done through the college I work at.
Hey Danno,
Pretty good resolution outta that printer, now you just need to throw on the mocap suit and get em movin.
