~ Quoted for its severe truth. I'm thinking people just use these to feel pro; "Hmmmmm. Let me load up my special UV because I'm so leet"

Checkerboards are fine, but you can't debug flipped UV's like that.
There's a reason there's text on those you know.

Yeah, it's all about the flipped. Also, a checkerboard you really don't know WHERE on that UV space that black square is just by looking at it, you can't see stretching well and if you are working on textures that are not filtered for the end result (like some PSP/GBA/Mobile stuff), then having the little alternating single pixels comes in handy.

The one I use is a lot more cooler than the ones in that link.

Was made by another artist way back in the CGChat days. These internet-years just fly by.

Ok, so I used to use the checker board thinking that it was pointless to use the number grids. But one day i switched over and it actually made my unwrap a lot more efficient. With the checker board it's easy to over look stretching, flipped uvs, and mis matched bitmap space. But with number grids it's just alot easier to spot. Although, i hate all the color sh*t so I just desaturate mine. Just try it once, I'm sure you'll like it.

I usually use a small 4x4 blue checker pattern with arrows on it, so I can set up directional flow and stuff (handy for enviros)

I will test out this whiz bang colour thing though, makes sense

Will have to de saturate it though. ><
