I am not sure if the duo is corny or not. I am re working the artifact (scarab beetle bot) and altering the Sphinx physique and clothing design to be a bit more suitable for Zelda or a Kid Icarus game.

Maybe you need a little "forum therapy" for inspiration. I am always surprised at some of the reactions that I get after posting sketches. It might help you flesh the idea out in your mind.

This is a "wip".
This is one of Sphingo's toys. It's a dragon fly that she can use as a rapier in a fight. She can also use Lightning/ Wind/ and Dark based magic to upgrade it's attacks. The dragonfly is very snooty in personality. It's very talkative and informs Sphingo (the player) of where the weak spots are on the enemies.

Sphingo is an oracle in her world. She is learning magic to allow her to fore see, heal, destroy what have you. She attacks with her staff shooting bursts of elemental bolts. The element she shoots out corresponds to the jewel she has equipped in her staff. She locks her enemies souls in jewels and powers her toys with those energized jewels. She fights mainly against Burrowlings (Moles) and Armores (Armadillos) in the mines in search of her cat napped dad.
