  1. Question Alt -X hot key (3ds Max)

    Hey

I am trying to make clothing for my character using polygon modelling. So sometimes I need to see through the cloth and I used Alt - X key for that. And now the direction arrows and circles are gone when I am using move, rotate or scale tools so I cannot work on the project anymore . I pressed Alt-X multiple times and even reload the whole secen but it doesn't work. How do I bring them back? Also I am using 3ds Max 2010 64 bit.

If there is any other way for low poly clothing other than creating the whole thing polygon by polygon you can share with me

    Thanks

Im guessing when you click on a object to just see the red directional arrow?
To bring back the move/rotate tool just press X.

Yeah binding the hide cursor to X (where you're often wanting Alt+X and hitting X by accident suddenly stops you working) is some bad design. I also hate that if you hit Space by default it locks your current mesh, every time I've been using Photoshop a lot I'm all in Space-to-pan mode and I keep locking my meshes.

I usually remove X when I'm getting all my keybindings set up for a new machine.

Space key can be a pain when you alternate between max and maya. Space minimizes and maximizes viewports in maya so you're hitting it all the time, and in max you barely ever need to hit it. A lot of max's hotkeys are a bit strange, but we love it despite it's faults .

Just do what I do, set a few max's hotkeys to the equivalent in Maya. Hide selected to CTRL+H, Maximize viewport toggle to SPACE, etc.

Although you'll never get the controls functioning just like Maya unless you use something like Switcher, but even that's pretty buggy
