    Unwrap UVW help

So i thought i would make a simple tank container piece to try and learn about unwrap uvw and texturing.

You can see i have already unwraped the cyplinder and im close to unwrapping the cage.
Im guessing i just put the unwraps in the box and make sure both pieces are the same resolution (checker pattern is matched the same?)

Then what?? how do i save it in what format ready for photoshop??

How you unwrap it will entirely depend on what you want to do with it but ideally yes you want to keep the resolution consistent.

With regards to photoshop you can add an Unwrap UVW modifier to the object and click on edit. Once the window opens you can go to tool and then render UV template you can save this as an image file and open it in photoshop as a guide.

    I hope this helps

yep, i have already made the template for the cylinder, just need to make one for the cage.
Do i have to attach both objects together to be able to put both templates together?

What am i talking about, surely it is better if i dont attach both objects? is that better than having two different maps?

again it would depend on how it was going to be used but if it was for in game I personally would keep it on the same map and attached.

Thanks beelzeboss, i thought the same thing. I have already unwraped the cylinder but that only took like 3 mins so i guess i wont have to back track that much.

Im just deciding if i need to add anything to the model before i begin the unwrapping process.

Nothing special just make sure your mesh is clean no double faces and such.

When you attach it you will still keep the work already done on the cylinder anyway so it will just be a case of unwrapping the frame
