    Question i need tutorials :D

does anyone know good organic modeling tutorials mainly Head tutorials? nose, eyes, ears, mouth and the actual head for 3ds max?

i payed £60ish for a tutorial from gnomon http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/sto...for-Production but stupid me thought it would actually tell me how to model...it just skips to different parts or puts it on x10 speed DOH..

so does anyone know any GOOD modeling tutorials for 3ds max?

http://www.3dtotal.com/ has some good tuts for max organic stuff. There's also a few modeling tutorials on CG Academy, but it depends how advanced you want it. Digital Tutors also? Just to name a few.

Yeah Gnomon tends to be much better for getting an insight into a pro workflow. They are fantastic when you have the basics down but they're definitely not the go-to place for beginner level stuff.

The 'Joan of Arc' tutorial is pretty much the staple of character tuts in my opinion. Follow it a few times and you should have a solid grounding in creating a decent character base.

    And it's free

Also, as Torch mentioned, Digital Tutors offer some awesome character kits, although the strongest of these are based in Maya but could easily be applied to Max if you know your way around. If you're gonna spend money on tutorials when you're starting out, I highly recommend Digital Tutors, and you can sign up for monthly streaming access to their entire training collection which is HUGE. And no skipping parts or 10x speed videos either.

  5. Dave King has some great 3dsmax video tutorials, some really good tips dropped in there too.

3D Total has some good tutorials too, this one is pretty popular.

It could be hard to find good head modeling tutorials aimed at beginners because that often means teaching two things, anatomy and modeling. To get the basics of modeling it might be good to open search a bit to include other tutorials then apply what they teach to head modeling.

I'm not sure how well versed in anatomy you are, but it always helps to study it. Most of the time people grasp the tools but fail on anatomy and are stuck languishing on tutorials that never teach it.

THe best thing you can do is to sit down, and try. Ask for advice, look at others work and try to match it, I know that it's hard and it takes a long time to even get a decent result but it'll pay off later.

I started with the Joan tutorial, it's a great one.

  8. If ur a n00b, nail those fundamentals 1st. Characters & envs are much tougher than mastering any app. Practice. Observe. Repeat.

3dbuzz.com has some pretty good tutorials that explain things in detail and go through it step by step, they cover a range of things but some of them include organic modeling

Eat3D is very useful. There's a new tutorial site that have some cool contents: 3DMotive.
I've learn some on CGTuts+. NextGenHardSurface is good for hard surface modeling. racer445's tutorials are VERY useful. I like Digital-Tutors too, it's simple to follow.

For organic modeling basics you should check digital tutors they have very good, and for the face specifically you have this tutorials to modela face from scratch, they are really good i learned a lot from this guy
    http://en.9jcg.com/comm_pages/blog_content-art-170.htm

    I hope this helps

pd: Check other gnomon DVDs Character modelling for production (by Cajun Hilton is really good) and there's another one only focused on modelling faces. They're both in maya but it's ok. Specially if we're talking about modeling, extruding is extruding and moving verts is moving verts it doesn't matter wich program you're in.
