DomWar V-2D Concept Art- Grimdc13-Samaya The Goddess of Time

[COLOR="orange"] UPDATE: For those who don't have time to scroll, here's the Finished Product!:

It's 11:05am Tuesday morning and I declare my entry done.I've been up 3 nights trying to get this painted. I can't do backgrounds and I feel like it sucks but oh well. If only the ortho didn't take so blasted long to do. I would of had more time for my concept painting. Lesson Learned. I'm going to sleep..because I've been working with only four hours lseep for the past 2 days straight. Good Luck to the rest of you!

here's it with out the temporaral distortion:

    Now back to the beginning:

Hi everybody, as I'm posting by phone I can only access a comp with net 3 times aweek to post wips and submit . My entry is Samaya the goddess of time. Her name I chose through Google Translate and her name in Hindi means Time. She's still a young Goddess. And she can manipulate time but is subject to its laws. Young enough to make rash mistakes causing rifts and paradoxes. But she is young enoough. To care about setting things right. Her father the God of Time wants her fix some of her mistakes and heal rifts in the continueum before she gets the power to create time and fully rule over it. Her father sent her to Dominance War to help change the destroyed future, but she's going to need to defend herself against the bigger nastier immortals to help shape a more peaceful world and heal the rift she felt she caused when she threw aviolent temporal tantrum when. She didn't get what she wanted for her sweet 16 billionth birthday.

Hey Folks, its Saturday I'll be posting in this one box as well as the first post which will for the lastest updates.
First is the first version of Samaya the initial doodle and mirrored symmetry sketches in Alchemy Sketch Engine it is a freeware program that is great for generating silhouettes

The next pic is version 2 which I wnet on a totally different route, before I wrote my character description I had a completely different look and concept for the character, but I'm taking Picasso's advice on Never trusting your first choice and explore some more options. You may love something one day and hate it the next. But with Two I think she's getting there. Now she is more in line with her character backstory in this thread of a spoiled time goddess. NOw I'm exploinf and Hour Glass dress and a geared head band I feel it takes some elemnts of past gree, thai and present baby doll dress and future cogs. I'm working in the GA sword into a double bladed spear/ staff . If she turns it one way or the other it clockwise will forward time and clock wise will reverse it ( she has the power but channels it through her powers like an wand or antennae it gives it focus. If she holds it leve it will keep her and the time at the present. The blades slice through monsters and gods . However the dagger on her leg can slice through the fabric of time and hilt heals them.

Next time I hope to post Some more finalized character and clor studies. I'm actually not indecisive this year I think I know where I want to go with the character for now. But as always Critiques and feedback are always appreciated

I'm updating to the front and using this post put up my update that would get lost on the second page for people who don"t have the time to scroll through everything.

All right at last it's time to post!! This is my original design which made it simple since the contest states I have to use the team colors and logo on the character. But then I beagan exploring other options. Picasso told us to doubt our first choices so we can explore other possibilities..that would explain his relationship philosophy with the women in his life. But I just wanted to explore what would happen if I did certain things, but I do like the simplicity of my first design the best so far.. the outfits colors just didn't satisfy me because it felt limiting rather than simplifying things for me. But I still do like my first choice in the time tiara though I want to put it back in because it doesn't look right as a Mandala to me.

Now I incorporate gear brushes and the logo and colors for the weapon. The mandala is starting to be developed..but I think I like the time tiara halo with a faded mandala time face in the background. I 'm just getting the character started..don"t ask me about composition thumbs yet..it goes character..turnaround..final piece or final piece and then turnaaround with me. In the next studies the gear is a place holder.

Color comps to explore other possibilities..including giving her Rama blue skin which I like or gray skin like my ref. mannequin..it reminds me of the greek Gods 's colors in the Disney Hercules movie..but I got the idea from listening Sita sings the blues the soundtrack from this retelling of the Ramayana..you can watch it on you tube.

This is my female mannequin changed to Samaya the Time Goddess fully poseble for reference these dolls are worth the price..I have a male too. The only problem is I need to realign them because they get crooked spines or legs. But I have a background in theater and costumes so I make wigs, clothes, props, and weapons. Although I admit it's hard for me to sew construct things using household items and reliable tapes. Esp. Gaffer's tape is a finer form of duct tape .

This is my real life reference. She was once a foster sister of mine, but I can't say her name or anything other than that because of the constraints of the system. I found this pic in my room while cleaning it. I was going to take and scan her other pic , but I would have to take a frame apart to get to it. (in case of emergency break glass..:P) Her skin and eyes caught me for Samaya.

Well that's all for now..But please keep giving me your advice and feedback especially in her coloring what do you guys like, what should be explored more , what would be a better solution etc.. Any feedback is always appreciated.

  10. Awesome back story! I like how serious it is, yet there is a touch of humor with the whole tantrum on her birthday. I believe that there is an actual tv show about sweet 16 parties that you may want to check out. I saw some of it once and just could not believe how spoiled these girls were and how over-the-top these birthdays were.

In fact, here are some full episodes on mtv.com

    http://www.mtv.com/shows/sweet_16/series.jhtml

Watch at your own risk. I claim no responsibility for any injury incurred from the horrors of this television show I guess watching this would be like making a sacrifice for your art- I think we all do this as artists in some way in our lives. =^) No offense to anyone who might love this show; it's just not my cup of coffee.

I'm very curious to see the direction you take! I believe you commented in my Dominance War 2d medium questions thread. Thanks again for the advice. Are you going to be sculpting a maquette for your piece as reference? Can't wait to see what you come up with! =^)

    Good luck!!

Imagilution: Thanks for the link to this show , I've heard about it. NO but I will be making the costume for my female drawing maquette ( I gray skinned Art s. Buck models, fully poseable dolls). I made out fits and accessories out of stuff around the house. I can kimonos using paper towels etc. I can put stuff together even a make shift wig. It especially helps for weapons as well. I made kitanas for my samurai with a steel strip from a dust mask and cardstock with tape. Your welcome for the post on your thread , We all need some kind of ref to see things work in the real world.

gotta go post later by mobile

Another really exciting concept! I am really liking her outfit so far, and I can't wait to see all the little details fleshed out. I like that she looks both dated and modern- short skirt, roman-style sandals... very cute, very well thought out!

The time halo and gear hair are really cool! So far the design has some really great potential. Honestly, I don't care for wings on this one. Makes her seem too much like an angel. The clock halo....that's another story. I think pushing that bigger and having it envelope more of her could really pull the "God" out of the imagery.

Your weapon design is really thought out. good stuff, keep fleshing it out, F looks like a good start.

Ksan: I get it like a magic force field generated by her body. Thanks for your feedback. Did you know this the first time in competing that I'm doing a girl. They are much easier for me than guys. Ifsogirl: Thanks for comments. I love clothes from other eras. Thanks for everyone. Feedback so far. I'm back on my mobile so I have to keep posts simple.

I just finished a rough line drawing combing the elements that work and I'm working on color studies. Yesterday I finished dressing my artist mannequin to be able to draw Samay better. I will post here wed. Or sat. I hope to. Link to my blog which might be the only place I can upload my phone photos. http://grimdc13.blogspot.com

    Hiya!
I like the little girl and the kinda Lolita-goddess vibe. But I like the time halo too.
I think she should project confidence or if not I think the effects of her time powers should show devastating effects while she is looking nervous and uncertain.
    EFFECTS:
People and creatures decay being near her or time is reversed so far that things look very primitive and there are no creatures or people around?

"jewelry hourglass" yielded some interesting google image results to wade through.

The hour glass shape of her dress might be reinforced with a pattern that mimics sand settled on the bottom part and sand moving from the top portion of the dress to the bottom. Heck, if this thing was animated, it would be pretty cool if it did move on the surface of the dress.

Sand escaping her body, items, dress.

Heart shape felt misleading... it seems to be clock hands, but the heart shape end threw me off on my first glance.

Keep up the rockin'-jockin'-groovy-cool work! Looking forward to more!

Hey! How are things coming along? The time ideas are great, i really like it. Maybe try to get som astronomy in there too. Like time cycles of planets and cojunctions and stuff. Could be cool to play around with. The Dali inspiration could be really interseting and unique too! Would love to see some more sketches!

Tried to reply and correct my reply and then my phone took to another rpage so rather than start over agin. IKm posting Saturday. Raz and rickard I will take your thoughts into consideration. I'm doing color comps and hope to do some more sketches. Was sidetracked by fits of spring cleaning I canKt work when there is papers everywher but neither can I work when things are too sterile. Right now I'm obsessed with Samaya and the legend of Elizabeth of Austria or Sisi to her friends. She was the princess Di of the last century both have astonishing parallels.

It sounds like your cells been acting funny a lot recently.
I hope it isn't a serious problem. But if it really is giving you a lot of trouble, I would think it's still under warranty?
Blarg, I'm balancing five projects at once right now... O_O It's crazy. But I like busy, better than not busy.
I'm looking forward to seeing your mural, I hope they will let you start soon now that they approved the image. I got a cool book that shows you how to blow up photocopies and apply them to walls if your interested.

    Cool clocks:

Sorry guys post will have to wait until tomorrow they were painting the computer room today argggh! And we didn't close our doors until late at the center we had record 230 people and maybe 50 volunteers. Everyone. Coming in at the last minute. But I managed to get about ten color comps done, find a picure of my reall life ref. And get some other sketches scanned.
Raz: Yeah droid 2.1 has some bugs but there was just a firmware update so it's working a lot better after hundreds of others complained about on sprint's forum. What I think happened in this instance was the laggy keyboard and pressing the wron key thus deleting my entry when I was already tired of typing..only to be aperfectionist and wanting to edit the spelling on my posts. So that's what happened this time. Thanks for the links I will put them on my usb tomorrow as well download my phones drivers so it can work on my comps and then I can upload back and forth..it should be easier to upload things then . Stupid phone didn't come with drivers cd . Samaya as far as I know is one shot for know but it would be funny for her to appear in one of our stories maybe MB? She can't resist scones? Speaking of baked goods I got a twilight cake in my food box and it was lemon flavored. I thoughtthe whole love triangle should neopolitan: chocolate, strawberry and vanilla..never expected lemon :*
