Dominance War V - 2D - julianV - God of Fire and Brimstone

Looks like I'm in this mutha. My God is in charge of Fire and Brimstone and whatnot. The challenging part of this one for me is taking a character that has been done a few times before with the usual visual hints that he's made of liquid hot magma that we've all seen before, but make him look cooler. All I know is I'm tryin.

The lo down on him is basically he rules liquid hot magma which is used to trap, engulf, incinerate, destroy, burn with catastrophic eruptions and lava slides and if needed breakdown with the help of acidic rain.

He himself is mainly comprised of magma though a portion is water which he uses to regulate his temperature in certain parts of his body to either help harden or liquify himself. Design wise it's simplish. His upper body is held up by a 2nd set of gorilla like arms that have a few digits fused together to form a claw with a trusty thumb. His lower legs are his lower legs in everything's kosher mode. But, when he feels threatened or is attacked, his fat tail which is actually large liquidy legs gone limp can harden with body temperature regulation, fuse with his other legs giving him an extra I don't know 3 or 4 feet of awesomeness to stand on.

Design and story wise, things may change, I'm still toying with some ideas.

Sick!!! You have really progressed in your drawing. The 2 outside heads on your last pic give a definite epic godness. If I had to chose I would probably pick the right. It looks more aged and ancient. Your middle one reminds me of a certain season, maybe Autumn? Ha ha, and has a resemblance of your dominance war 3 character. Liking the body so far. :thumb: Are the hands gorilla hands with claws? Also I'm loving the tail, is it going to have glowing lava showing through?

Thanks for the comments. Yeah he'll have glowing lava at his tail leaving a trail behind. I finished this 2 pose ortho, but I think I may tweak the body textures some more and maybe his digits. We'll see where I take it or if it stays fairly close to what it is now.

Thanks for the tip on the shoulder, I made some adjustments and hopefully that helps. I'll be working on his staff to incorporate the GA logo if I have time soon.

I'm still playing with details, features, color, and effects. El Dookie had mentioned that the character looked ancient, hopefully that is the case because that's a good thing. I wasn't sure whether to give a desaturated gray stone look like old hardened lava or more of a darker bluish black because he's still got that lava stewing around.

oh, if anyone can tell me how I can get these images larger for you to view. I know attachments have restraints of 900x800 146kb......but I've seen larger images and I can't figure it out, I'm just lacking like that.

I like mre the black version, and about the image size the bigger images you´ve seen are probably uploaded with other image servers or from a personal website I use imageshack then post the image with the forum link they give me.

    thanks for the info....

I'm leaning more towards the dark version as well only because that's how I envisioned it originally but to me there's something that I'm also liking about the light version. I'll play with it some more, thanks.

Great designs! I love the lava coloring so far. And of the 2 last options, the darker stone skin contrasts more with the lava so I like that one more. I see the appeal to the light colors because they look like ash... what about just in select areas, like the top half or the extremities... I don't know, what areas would turn to ash first?

It may be too late to make this suggestion, but one area that you could work on some more are the shapes of the upper arms, torso, shoulders and front legs. The back legs work really well - there's a very nice variation in shapes, tapering and widening, thick and thin areas that make it look visually interesting and dynamic. The other parts of the body don't incorporate as much of that, and seem to be more cylindrical without as much of that interesting variation in form or width. As good as your design is, it's possible that some more variation could make it look even more interesting without taking away from his massive form.

Anyhow, just an idea. Either way, terrific work! :thumb:

Finally an update......life loves delivering teeth crushing curve balls and all you can say is thank you sir may I have another.

I think I'm fairly happy with it so I can move onto the final image, but then again that was before I found out that we have another 7 days. Maybe I'll just use that time on the final image

thanks again for the comments and suggestions, I tried to enforce all of them without straying from what I originally saw in my noodle.
