Laptop Specs

Hey guys not sure if i should post this here or not but figure technical talk right. I was wondering i was looking at getting a laptop to help me model and zbrush on the go as well as the fact that my PC Tower is not accessable in the new house i live in. What are good specs for a descent laptop?

How much you willing to spend? Desktop replacements go from $1k-$6k depending on what you need. Go for x64 OS, 4-8 on the ram, at least 500gb hdd, and some nvidia if you can. Avoid the dead end i3 and i5 cpu lines. Dell's XPS 15 looks like a decent budget lap. The i7 is only 2ghz, but it's a quad core. 15.6" is small, but the $900 price is a steal. Want more. Pay more. Same with desktops.

15.6" screen is pretty ok for a thing that you want to carry around with you in a backpack

Yeah i figured on the " You get what you pay for" mentality. HOpefully i can find one that fits my needs without breaking my bank lol. Thank you for the helpful posts

@canti_cooly: yeah. you end getting 1/2 the power as a desktop of the same price.hdd isn't an issue. even with data and apps you'll be hard pressed to fill 500gb. zbrush tops out at 4gb because its x32. a x64 OS and 6gb should be enough to keep zb from hdd swapping too heavily. zb doesn't care about the gpu so you could maybe cut back a little there. unless you play games. just don't go for integrated vid. zb really cares about a fast cpu and the number of cores. fast cpu and a decent amount of ram should keep zb happy.

@alfalfasprossen: my laptop is almost 18". got a smaller 11" netbook so i don't break my spine on the train though.

@BeTheMeIAimToBe yeah i love my pc its a descent build. The only issue is at the house me and my gf live at right now its not accessable not enough space. Did find this great website though that has great laptops it seems for a descent price http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

@alfalfasprossen: valid point. You want something descent size to see everything but not something that is going to be a pain in the arse to carry.

No *infinity! Avoid cyperpower and ibuypower. Same company and they're both scam artists. Lots of online complaints about them. They promise kickass specs, but deliver cheap builds with parts that are sometimes used. They've got a bad reputation for not delivering on time, not connecting wires inside, and not giving your the high quality parts you pay for. They're not big on refunds and charge you for returning stuff to get fixed even when its their fault. Even the pre-built systems they ship through newegg are low rated garbage.
