Nice! I was hoping for this. I have been sitting on a concept because I didn't have time to enter, but work just let up and now......yeah!!
uppss,I wasn't expecting too.
But ,hehe, this is your day Marcus gogogogogo ...
BIG Thanks FRED! This gives me time to make up for my lost time in sculpting
THanks again
Although this is probably great news for a lot of people, as there aren't really that many entries close to being finished (mine could probably use some more loving as well) this is the 2nd extension if I remember correctly (the 1st being from 18th - 22nd and now to the 28th) and it seems to defeat the purpose of having a deadline.
It just seems rather pointless to push yourself to get something done on time within the deadline if it's just going to get pushed ahead. Hopefully this doesn't sound angry or anything, it's just an observation...as it happened with DW2 and it seems like practically every contest before it :P
I realize that the new time could definitely be used to push nearly completed things even further but it just annoys me sometimes, that's all.
Anyways, good luck to everyone, use your new time wisely!
I understand your points, but where did you find the first extension? I believe this has been the first and only extension for this comp.
Wasn't the original deadline for this comp the 18th? I was sure that it was but I could definitely be wrong. It may have been just an unofficial date rather than an official extension...if so..my bad.
18 does sound familiar. I am trying really hard to remember if I said something about this date, but 18 is a friday. I never end a comp on a friday because I know everyone is busy with work. It's always monday and, sometimes but rarely, wednesday.
Meh, I could very well be wrong. The point is that, from my experience, it seems almost every competition gets pushed ahead by at least a week and it seems that a reward for not getting something done on time is more time , in the work place, the exact opposite thing would probably happen. Again, I'm not trying to come off as an ass or anything, I'm just sayin'
PEACE
Gav
I thought I was going to be the late kid to enter the race, but the extension helps.
:lucky: shocked but sweet :thumb:
Even though the extension helps me out (a lot), I do agree with Gavin. My time management sucks and my entry would have been "sweeter" if I would have finished it by the original deadline. Maybe bonus pts should be given to those who submit before the original deadline if there are extensions in future comps.
thanks fred maybe i can still pull this off![]()
I defiantly agree with Gavin...
This severely hurts the people that are ready and are responsible. It actually kind of makes me upset...
I agree with Gavin as well and I felt the same way during DW2 but I’m sure for Game Artisans first comp Fred wanted the best showing possible. Honestly had the comp ended today the final results would have been in my opinion underwhelming and lopsided. Is this completely fare for those who managed to finish on time no but if your entry was awesome on the first due date then it’s still going to be awesome on the extended due date if not more so. I’ve seen comps on a number of forums extend there deadlines and it’s just the nature of the game when you have 50 entries and maybe 8 are up to snuff. For the most part even if you added an additional week to begin with you’d still have the same situation, hopefully for the next comp there are more than enough strong entries to keep the submission date firm and not have to fall into the extension trap. All in all I have no solutions for this as it’s a game time decision by the forum moderators.
Marcus
The only point I can make here for the 'other side' is that most of these comps are done in free time, and that varies from person to person. I worked a little bit of crunch at work, bought a new house, helped start planning a wedding ... and ALMOST finished a DWII entry. If you have the time, its great to steamroll a deadline and be proud ... but many don't. Just because you don't meet the date on a comp like this doesn't mean your a slacker .... its frappin' TOUGH. Not everyone has the same time available, no matter what your level of dedication is. A bunch of people need a little bit of that ... whatsit called ... that 'sleep' stuff too.![]()
Gavin, good point... but, YESS!!!! However, I crammed everything I could into my entry last night. I didn't know I could texture that effeciently in that short period of time...
maybe creating realistic deadlines for working professionals would be a better way to go in the future. i would think something on the scale of dominance war should have 2 months, and something like this comp should have 1 month. i can see the frustration gavin and others are feeling, but at the same time, they should have seen it coming, considering the low number of participants that looked poised to finish.
