No environment challenges? We environment artists need some love too :P
Although I know what the next topic for UC would be, and I am quite excited about it, to create an entire new ga, plus run a new major challenge, plus a multiforum UC... it would be a little too much to handle in a single year. Will see how things go with the new GA and New Character challenge. If things go well.. perhaps will attempt a UC too![]()
I'm pretty excited about the new unveiling. My only crit would be about the new, highly talked about ranking system. The pluses of this are cool, in that it gets people amped to do challenges and such. I just hope it doesn't divide the forum, and make everything a popularity contest. It may sound like a silly concern, but I can see that sticking in some peoples minds.
Of course, if any forum can pull that off, it's GA, because this is definitely the least "elitest" forum out there. Everyone is very supportive. But as competitive as our field is, I wouldn't put it past a lot of people to play up their "elite" status to lesser active and/or talented artists.
Otherwise, I am looking forward to April. I like the site redesign. Keep it up Fred, we appreciate all that you do!
Wow the new layout looks sick, Fred!! Nice one![]()
Mrpearlzildjian - Yeah, the ranking system does have a few risks involved, but it's primarily there to bring artists and the community closer together. Example, cleric, one of their requirements is to post valuable comments. Each time they get thanked for a post, it gives them experience to rise in levels. Bard is similar, but bard just needs to post a lot of comments to earn experience. So the new ranking system will be a little competitive, but at the same time, add value to the site from all GA's users. Anyways, I guess we will just see how it goes. It's new, so it's really hard to predict. Will hope for the best
Torch - Glad you like it![]()
Really like the idea Fred!:thumb: So would a scribe gain experience for lengthy posts...?
I'm pretty new to this forum, but have found its community to be one of the best out there, this is actually my go-to place for any questions/concerns/chats/whatever! I truly look forward to all the new changes for 2012!
However, my only concern is that I've wanted to participate in the challenges both for practice and to challenge myself artistically, but haven't been able to do that as all of the challenges seem to focus on character artists. I myself am more of a hard-surface modeler for vehicles/props, etc. Would it be possible to get any challenges accommodating these themes?
Keep up the good work GA staff, Can't wait for the new changes!
i like the new updates private threads sound cool and following artists and such is cool integration I can't wait.
Hopefully, private threads won't result in a board with small cliques.
I have no idea how the character class is going to work but it sounds interesting. Look forward to see what you guys have done
Let's do this.
warinmysky - Yeah, environment challenges and animation challenges are on the to do list. However, GA would need someone to run those. Someone who really enjoys either animation or enviro art.
Mogo - I doubt that. The plus side to private threads are that people can really get the help they are looking for by making groups of friends to push and inspire each other. I am sure artists would still come out of their caves now and then to chat with other members too.
Dill-n - Nope, scribes would get experience for articles, interviews, quotes, and stuff that they write or share with the community. Scribes are a bit special because, well, I would effectively lend them GA's name to do some special stuff to unlock their achievement awards - like interview an artist for GA members, or interview a Game company to show our members how cool that company is. Anyways, these six classes are a test. One can never know if something works unless one is willing to try. So, I'll try it out and hope for the best![]()
Looking good,great layout,Nice!
OT @FredH: My posts need to be approved. Otherwise, I'm just you're imaginary friend.![]()
Mogo, post approved![]()
hey Fred, are you gonna do anymore Dom War? Or are you pretty much gonna move in a whole new direction with the site for comps etc?
I was at cghub at the time, but didn't he pass over future dom war challenges to a third party? I could be wrong.
Looks very interesting =) Very nice layout, the chat seems also very interesting for direct feedback and help.
And the class system looks also very interesting, maybe we could have The classes definitions soon, on a small article ? ^^
Limeade - DomWar? It will be put on hold for 1-3 years. Small pause. How it re-opens, who will end up running it, and when... we will see.
Mogo - Yeah, that was looked into.
Abrvpt - Will release that when the xp and level system have been tested and solidified. Want to make sure everything is balanced.
