Oh wow, flashback city. I still have those books lying around here somewhere. Great sketches, this is going to rock. I really dig the tail club on the last page.

The last sketch is gooood , i like the tail end piece.

nice drawings, visually it looks more menacing with
the tusks pointing forward in the jaw in that last sketch.

    Great job

I like the last sketch too. You should start the final illustration with that. :thumb:

    nice presentation on the sketches

I was pondering what bugged me about the last sketch, because it's very well done, and I think it's a matter of dynamic and proportion. For example the sculpt in your reference- has long, narrow head, broad shoulders, narrow hips. Your design lacks that pleasing variation, overall shape is like a big rectangle. I would say really push some features, exaggerate the turns in the silhouette. That could just be my cartoonist inclinations speaking :inocent:

I completely agree with artkitty.... Pushing those proportions, especially in his upper body, would really bring the whole design together. The style is great, and I really like his tail... good stuff!

    Smile Head Study WIP

Well, I've not had time for much since my last post, but here's some progress on a head study (nothing in stone, just playing):

artkitty - That's a good note. Looking back at that sketch I see exactly what you mean. I'm not sure how far I want to push it though (towards that middle sculpt ref). The comic turtles had very stocky, almost cubish, forms and I wanted to echo that slightly:

Also, wanted his proportions to be more "mindless tank/bruiser" than "strong hero". Looking at my other roughs, perhaps something more towards the upper left sketch is more appealing?

I definitely think pushing those shoulder pads is in order along with pulling the waist in a touch. I'm planning on doing a few more armor designs before I decided on a final direction.

    To everyone else:

Thanks allot for the comments. I've been surprised how involved people seem to be in this forum. I'm fairly new to GA (this thread was my first post) and was expecting no love given my relative obscurity. So thanks very much for the feedback.

Personally I really like the proportions in your sketch, I don't feel that they really need to be changed for this character. He feels massive and tank-like.. more of a battering ram than a deep-thinking heroic character. That's how I always think of the Triceratons anyway.

Just thought I'd throw in my opinion from the other side of the fence. The head paint is looking great!
