    Unity (normal?) problem/question

    Hi everyone,

I'm learning Unity and have a question about hard edges I'm seeing in the level I'm putting together.

I made a tileset in MAYA and have assembled and welded everything together in MAYA. I've brought it into UNITY as one object, exported as a .fbx.

Everything is working but I'm getting all sorts of hard edged spots where the light hits. Some of the normals are inverting strangely as well. A few check list items I've already done...

    1. I have checked my normals and they are all facing inward in MAYA.

    2. I have all my faces welded together.

    3. It is all one object right now after being welded in MAYA. Good or bad idea?

I've attached a screenshot here. Thanks for any help you can offer.

have you checked normal smoothing? Try Normal - Soften edge with all edges selected and see if the effect disappears when you re-export.
