Why is the new GA taking so long?

I have been absent on the boards for the past few weeks. After having been told to read a few comments on GA about how things are developing here, and how members are getting frustrated that there are no challenges, and how members think that I, myself, have abandoned the site and everything... I thought I would post some news about GA.

1st and foremost, I have not abandoned or stopped caring for GA. I have been doing what I have always been doing for the past 6 years, working in the background to push the community forward. I have been on GA all this time, but not on GameArtisans.org, I have been continually working on the new beta site. Unfortunately, I bit off a little more than I can chew with the new GA. The site is humungous! And it's taking all my spare time, plus 3 freelance programmers... and we still do not have enough man power to finish it. Not to mention that there were former programmers who promised the world, and then delivered nothing, and the project as a whole suffered a big loss in time and funding. To this day, the new challenge system is still no where near complete.

However, progress is still being made. I am not someone who easily gives up

Since it's already waaay past its due date, I have decided to release the new site prematurely in 2 weeks. Most of the new site is functional, including the new portofolio systems, so members can settle into their new home while I finish up the challenges and get them operational once again. However, all artwork submitted to a past GA challenge, even Dominance War and Unearthly Challenge, will temporarily be gone from online until they are re-uploaded into the new challenge system.

To further explain why things are taking so long... I will release a single image.

This is the submit content page. Each item listed has a submission page along with a public display page. All these pages had to be styled by me.

... and even this page, is still not finished. two icons are missing, and I have to ask permission from the two artists who's artwork I have used for the top banner. As a side note, the donations icon... yes yes, it's the infamous icon from dw.. sarcastic humor, can't help it (oh, btw, items listed here are not the only way that user's can gain levels as a class. These are just a few of them)

This is just the submit content page. If you look at the top menu, there is a game room, a jobs board, a faq, a download area, etc. Each page further had to be styled. And then there is the new portfolio system... this time, I made a system that let's artists choose from 7 completely unique formats that they can display their portfolios as, and then each format, can be easily styled to the artist's liking. And then there is the ranking system and challenges system with even more pages... it goes on and on..

Basically, it's huge.. and most of it is done. So, give me two weeks, and then you will have the new GA, minus a challenge system. We will need to run challenges old school style until the new challenge systems is complete. Hope you don't mind.

Otherwise, if you would like to help, please pm me. I need help with the following:

    - Games uploader. Find some cool classic games and upload them to the new GA.
    - Finish the two missing icons for the submission pages.
    - A human resources helper who can help me ask artists for permission to use their artwork for page banners. Also, to contact artists who have exceptional art and ask them to make a GA portfolio so that the site doesn't start completely empty.

For the first time since the creation of GA, I have temporarily stopped focusing on making challenges and publicity for other forums. So I have put a hold on Dominance War and Unearthly Challenge. I am now only focused on GA. I hope everyone will like the new changes. I am hoping that it will make this community stronger, and let artists share their ideas and help each other out in many different ways

This looks very promising! Can't wait to see everything in place and working. Maybe I should start participating more and stay away from the shadows NOW.

Well I did this little variation, for "Submit info post" Wasn't 100% clear on what you were looking for as far as the missing graphics.

crashadams - basically, I am looking for a mascot that represents
    - submit an info post
    - submit a f.a.q post
The faq mascot might have a big magnify glass in some fashion. As for the info post... a treasure map is actually pretty good, but make it bigger. As a base, maybe use the start/edit sketchbook form and then cover half the dude with him holding up a treasure map and his other hand pointing at the X?

This is the true size of the the table the mascot would go in.

This here is the sheet that the mascot would go on. If needed, space can be added on the right.

Also, if you can make the mascot look like the newest version on the right menu panel, in registration box, this would be awesome Not color, just the hair and more pointy helmet. I revised the mascot after finishing the content submission page, but I never had time to revise all the old mascots:flag:

Graze - can you help with finding classic games for the new GA site instead? if you email me at fhult99 atty hotmail dotty com, I can send you the access to the new site... providing you are up for helping with this? You'd have to find them, then upload them. There is a special website for this... but they have THOUSANDS of games:s

Unpetitmax - When the new site opens, it's going to be like the old GA 6 years ago... buggy as hell. But, the bugs will pass and I am positive things will be pretty cool thereafter:thumb:

mr_ace - Yeah, I hear you about getting people to post. It's unfortunate that I hate doing mediocre things. Everything gots to be grand! This one was a bit too much. More work than all dominance wars combined!... ack:flag: Almost done though Can't wait....

Sorry for not asking first! Didn't mean to take someone's job haha, I was taking a break from homework to do some graphics practice and saw this and it sounded like fun...

Do you want me to fiddle with the entire character sheet so they all have the hair/helmet change?

crashadams, yeah, you sort of jumped in on this one. But, since you started, I guess you are the man now. However, you gotta make it look good as much as possible... and I might tweak it just a tiny bit when you are done. Hope you don't mind I have revised the png image. This one has no cast shadow and unsharp mask, so it should be easier to work with. Otherwise, thanks for helping out:thumb: Good luck

edit: oops, forgot to mention, yes, feel free to mod the hair and helmet of the others.
