    Comicon'16 | 2D | The Scarlet Lich

Hi again, everyone! I'll be working another Avengers-influenced entry again this year, The Scarlet Lich.

Here are some early sketches, trying to work out a powerful witchy, lichy casting pose.

    Thanks also, InsaneWriter.

Here are some doodles for face approaches. sorry for the weird formatting: I sketched it this way in my sketchbook (yes, I work on paper.)

I like no.7 so far, but it all comes down to the total image.

DC3D - Thanks for sharing the reference, it's definitely got a vibe like I'm going for. I found a larger version of the image here, btw
And thanks for commenting on the poses! I have been leaning towards most of the ones you picked out.

Amethyst - Thanks! I assume you're talking about the head post (as you already commented on the earlier post... I should have lettered the 2nd post instead of using the same numbers!) I like that one but think it may be too elongated. My favorite so far is #1 from the earlier sheet (the only head on the page.)

    believeHammer - Thanks!

    Thanks, Pshyco.

Here's progress on my pose, and I'm trying to decide how human/attractive or ghoulish/distorted to make the face:

Anyone like one over another, or have any other useful feedback?

It might be a bit early, but I hope you're keeping the red and black colour palette. I love the initial sketches and I'm looking forward to the execution!

Thanks! My thumbnail is just something I happened to find in a brief search, but I do like the sparseness of it as well. I was thinking about having the red be pretty much the only color in my final piece, with the rest pretty grey. That's where I'm leaning... we'll see how it looks once I start painting it!

Further along with the layout and design:

Alternately, I could crop it tighter and focus more on the character and less on the zombies and other background noise.

    Which one do you like?

Thanks for stopping by and voicing an opinion, Obeyurnapster!

This is still really rough, just starting to lay down some values and I wanted to update the thread:

Looking back at the sketches I posted earlier, it feels like I made the nose protrude a lot more in this latest iamge, whereas in the sketches it was a lot flatter.
    Which do you prefer?

    Cheers!

I quite like how the nose has come along. I think you should keep it this way.
