Hehe thanks Walrus, I am planning on making a keyblade for her and everything has a meaning for her having a keyblade etc (ie Genie gave her a wish and she wanted to fight... :P CHEESY!!!) but yea the tattoo...i think a little of Faith from sackboy challenge may have rubbed off.

Proportion wise, im gonna mess with the big feet and a bigger than normal head size...think Kairi in the first KH

WOW! All I did was go to sleep, haha. It's going to be hard to keep up with the pace everyone else is going at here so before I pull up some images and start sketch'n some stuff out I just wanted to layout some more comments.

cookepuss: Interesting start and interesting style. I can see you are really going in a different direction then the norm, he is looking pretty old and witchy at this point with the small jaw, big ears, and nose. I'm curious as to where you go from where with him.

Draxxuss: Sorry if the comment seemed...weird. Just that it looked like you were setting it up for sculpting and KH doesn't normally go with that kind of look, so I was just curious if you were. I think it really could help the entry though if you pull it off right like Josh Singh did on the Pokemon Comp. I like the updates you blocked him out fast! Nice work

TeacupBandit: You nailed the KH1 fell and style perfectly! I like what you did with the character and I could easily see him jump out while playing through KH. Nice work, looking forward to the 3D!

Megz: I'm not really sure shooting is the best way to take Tink for "war". Well at least not in the KH universe. Very few people seem to use guns, though I understand it's comical with the whole flower gun thing, but the way the sketch is done I doesn't come through as "haha" funny. I think you could fix it pretty easy with some quick color changes though. If you took the gut to pink and put lots of "pretty" stickers all over it, that could help with the cutesy war machine look that fits with Tink.

AutopsySoldier: Thanks a lot man! I don't think I will stand a chance in this contest though, haha. Your Ursula has made leaps and bounds from last night you are a working machine! She looks pretty much spot on, I am really looking forward to your final it's going to be awesome, she was a great choice and your sculpt looks awesome!

ChrisPavia: Nice choice and a good start on the mesh. Can't wait to see more .

Gamerboi: Not much to comment on at the moment, good start. I am curious how you are going to change the character up.

Enelo: I like the changes, fits much more in KH. The only suggestion I can make from here is to maybe decorate up his shirt/robe a bit more. Nomura seems to like boarders and patterns more so then leaving fabrics flat. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are good examples of that.

plainjammy: Not a bad start. I am not loving the tattoo on her and it seems like the single sholder pad is being waaay over used in this comp. I do like what you did with the dress though. Maybe move away from the black color unless you want it to look like she is being taken in by the darkness.

mradamw: Solid start on the mesh. You said you are just blocking in stuff so I am just looking forward to where you take him from here and how you "prepare him for war". Should be interesting.

Shadownami92: Nice start! Good to see another original character. Even better is how your doing it, it looks really good. My guess would be a girl from what you have, but I might be wrong. Can't wait to see the other parts of this one come together .

chumble spuzz: Nice concept! The only thing that kinda concerns me is the color and look of the shirt, it's very close to Cloud's, just something to keep in mind. Looking forward to more.

livio3d: Man my Frog is going to have trouble keeping up with your Crono! Nice work! I can easily see him jumping down in KH with what you did. I think you mixed the original and KH very well. The only thing I don't like, though this might be a personal thing because I think it looks weird, is the single shoulder pad. That and everyone and their mother seem to be adding it on in this comp. Which is a little strange because it's not like it's something that pops up in KH or anything.....oh well that was a bit off topic, I am very sorry. Nice concept I am really looking forward to the model!

ploon: I love it! I think you have a great idea and it's coming through awesome. The face you are going to be fitting two in the budget makes me jealous! Nice nice nice work!

Sorry if I somehow missed someone :S. Man I don't know if I will be able to keep up, haha there is soooo much awesome working going around O_O. Time for me to get started on my sketches.

  3. Eclipse ----thanks for liking it My plan might be bigger than I can handle but it never hurt to try
mradamw ----- thanks man, the charger seemed like a good idea at the time.
Your gorrila mesh is looking damn fine, theres a couple of cool gorilla threads in the wip section might be of some help to you too.
    yoyomon ---love your concept!
AutopsySoldier---- super fast super fine You've got a lot of edgeloops in the face dude!
seven-----yessss! Disney are gonna stomp Squenix ass heheh
sinz----give a little whistle! Love it so far, 3 characters are gonna be tough but it looks like
its certainly possible the way you are going
Draxxus ----awesome mesh man, looking forward to this one a lot

    time for a nap :lucky:

    Gosh this thread moves quick!

@ Ayren: It's a guy, but I can see how it would be tough to tell. I don't plan on changing the design too much, except for some proportion changes to match the property like Walrus suggested. I like the way the KH characters are textured, so hopefully I can replicate that well.
@ Eclura: Yeah, I'm a sucker for accessories, but they suck up polies!
@ Walrus: Good call, I'll make the feet bigger.
    @ Eclipse: Thanks!

    Update coming tonight!

damn it cookepuss. I was thinking kefka, best villian in any FF to date. I mean, he is the only one that actually destroys the planet. Well, everyone else tries to totally destroy it, but he actually changes the layout of continents, changes the environment, causes major wars, destroys cities, etc. Crazy one, he is. Anyway...i'll think of something else. Gotta do a villian though, tired of doing happy things all the time. I hope I have time to do this up, I am swamped with work right now. Doing 14hrs 6 days a week at the moment. So we'll see. And classes start up on Monday. *sigh*

I chose the character Axel, well actually I made a character based on his design but I ended up with a totally different character.
This is a quick sketch of him in photoshop.

    Nice work everyone :thumb:

    kerchak update 3

so here is a little render of kerchak. you may be asking why i did a render instead of a screengrab, and the answer is simple...because. :P

im sitting at 2,112 tris at the moment...i want to cut it down to about 2k so i can add lots of things, but im having a hard time finding tris to cull. i briefly entertained the idea of having like baby tarzan sitting on his head, but that would destroy my polys for weapons etc..oh well, sometimes you gotta make trade-offs.
the basic gorilla mesh is by no means 100% finished, still got some tweaking to do to get some my normals all nice and perdy.

sorry i havent commented on peoples work yet, its hard to keep up with the speed this thread is going at...i shall endevour to do it soon though.

enough caffeine induced rambling. bed time. work tomorrow. bleugh.

Cookepuss - looking good but the area between the brows, right above the nose, is very deflated... there should be some skin bunching up right there as his brows push together in a frown. It might be good to try and define an upper eyelid and not just rely on the heavy brow.. or maybe you did but I can't tell from those pics.

TeacupBandit - a suggestion for you would be to have some really interesting string guard on his left arm, kind of a gauntlet and then maybe some cool two fingered glove on the other. what if you gave him a patch over one eye with a big scar coming down behind it. Even with one eye he is still the best archer! yah you really need to explore options with the bow and a nice quiver... perhaps a quiver that spans the width of his back like I have seen Hawkeyes or the Green Arrow at times.
edit - oh.. I just saw the redesign of the bow.. maybe try a few more. what about extending the feather in his hat also.

Sabies - thanks alot. Still very early on.

Megz - My daughter really likes your tinkebell sketch.. I'm not a fan of the boots though.. kind thick and blobby, not what I would expect from a fairy.. but then again.. neither is a bazooka! I would suggest modifying the helmet and weapon to something that a Tinker talent fairy would create... usually these would consist of bark and leaves and generally nature based things.

AutopsySoldier - Looking good and scary! not much to comment on so far.

Tryforce - go buy a cheap graphics card... probably get one for less than 50 bucks that would do the trick.

ChrisPavia - Cool character choice, and great start on the mesh.. I think the head is a tad on the large side. bring your image into max on a plane that is the same dimensions as the ref pic and match up the mesh with the pic. It helps.

Gamerboi - good choice.. was thinking about this guy too early on. the good thing about this guy is that it doesn't matter what you put him in it will probably be fine seeing as he always has different roles in the cartoons. If you are stuck for suggestions you could always try the standard suit of armour?

plainjammy - thanks for that youtube link... what an unfair matchup... that bald dude kicks arse! (I'm pretty clueless with those characters). Are you thinking of altering Jasmine's face a bit so she is War ready?

Enelo - is pooh in a moo moo?

mradamw - weapon? what about a big ass keyblade made out of a log and jungle vines? would be bording on keyCLUB!

Shadownami92 - a bit early to comment but so far looking good.

Snipergen - good choice, he has lots of character. Isn't he from hercules? I'm not sure what his name is anymore.

Elcura - thanks. I won't need to retop as I'll have made the low poly in max first. Currently it is well within budget but I still need to add hair, spine spikes, open the mouth, add his gear, etc... in the end it will be 3000 tris.

chumble spuzz - thanks. I like where you are going with your design. heh heh.. the zipper up the front reminds me of a certain mini comp... hmmm.. I wonder which one that was...

livio3d - good start. I like the amount of layering you have with the clothing and gear.

extol - thanks. Baby got back!

ploon - pretty good idea and great start so far. very recognizable. Are you planning on adding some tribal war paint to Moogley or googley or whatever his name is? and thanks for the comments.

Walrus - thanks Mike... are you starting something up as well? This comp has your style written all over it! (your pokemon guy fits in perfect with this style)

Eclipse - no it wasn't a strange question. I need to make sure to use the next couple of comps to my full advantage to practice up for DW. So of course sculpt and bake is required even if the in game characters do not have it. I'll check out Josh's turtle dude after.

illadam - that is pretty cool choice. You should make the air foil into more of a Green goblin kinda thing so he doesn't need to get pulled around by an airplane all the time. An old fashioned aviators helmet and goggles could work too.

Tatarigamy - a bit early to comment but looks like it is coming along well.

Blenderhead - ha... cool choice. you are doing both of them correct? It would be interesting if they were armoured or geared in opposing colours.

Sorry if I missed someone... this only took about 30 minutes to do.. yeesh...

This thread is moving too fast.... I'm glad that so many people are interested but holy crap.

@sinz: Still an awesome call. Basemesh looks solid.

@Eclipse: I think I can pull off the shoulder pad... try to reserve judgment until I get it in there, then you can rip me up

@Draxxuss: Solid mesh. I think you captured the essence very well. Lets see pete

@cookepuss: Good start. I think his head is not exaggerated enough. I know that you're going for less of a pretty boy but I think the proportions are not there yet. I think the relationship between his forehead and his mouth area need some love. Also, the back of his head may need some tweaking

@AutopsySoldier: Lookin pretty good. I think she should be a bit more obese than she is now. I remember her to be a bit more curvy than you have her.

@ChrisPavia: I think the hips need to be a bit bigger but otherwise looking good

    @ploon:

@illadam: It's been AGES since I've thought of that show!

@Blenderhead: Well... that is an awesome pick to change sides for

@mradamw: Decent go. I think you should pay attention to the shoulder area a bit more. Specifically how the poly's of the deltoids are hooking up to the torso. You'll probably want at least another edge loop around his mid section. When you're modeling this, think about evenly proportioned polygons if you can. The polys near his clavicle could be arranged differently. Think about drawing lines that follow the curvature of the body all the way down from the head to the feet as well as out to the finger tips. Those extra polys don't help the silhouette very much nor animation so they're unnecessary. Keep going!

quick update... as a goal I'm going to try to do everything in zbrush except the uvs and texturing. Started with zspheres then added edgeloops by hiding the mesh and whatnot. It's not perfect but I like where it's headed.

edit: because Draxxuss is right about the shader

Seven - thanks a lot. I like the gold material you are using but it may be hiding some stuff for possible critiques. So far looks good though. really good profile on the torso and butt area.

BTW... I just learned this too... the dragon's name is not Pete as he is Pete's Dragon.. his name is actually Elliot.

Might be a bit late, but I might give this a go.

    :/

Have no idea who I want to do though. I like the SE style, but don't know any character that I'd like to make (unless a Bahamut made an appearance).

I don't really feel like making a girly dude, either.

  16. Draxxus---yep he's Mowgli from Jungle Book, I sat through that film dozens of times in the cinema
back in the 60's as a kid, luckily we lived in a flat above the cinema :lucky:

Elliot? Silly name for a dragon ;-) Reminds me of a question I heard on a quiz once where they
asked "who wrote "The Tales of Beatrix Potter?" " No one knew...... :lucky:

Seven---that looks sweet! I'm learning to love Zspheres, they make modelling a base so much faster!

And lose out on saved UV space by giving them both the same texture? I am undecided on weaponry yet...maybe a cannon that one can fire the other out of.

    Nice looking gorrila Adam!

Elcura - I guess I was just thinking geared for war = army not fantasy army. Thanks for your suggestions!

Eclipse - Yeah I was thinking I'd keep a metallic look to it and give it a pink tint. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll cutesy it up =)

Draxxuss - Oh great idea! I'll see what I can do to make it have a more nature feel to it. Thanks a bunch!

You're absolutely right. I noticed it about 20 seconds after I posted it, actually. That mass of flesh above the nose was added in. Just not in that pic.

It might be good to try and define an upper eyelid and not just rely on the heavy brow.. or maybe you did but I can't tell from those pics.
The problem right now is that I don't have enough sculptable polys in that area. THAT problem emanated from a lack of definition to the head in the initial ZSphere rig. Sculpting was just becoming too much of a pain in the ass having too many ZSpheres in the head. Since I have to retopo anyway, I'll use that as an opportunity to reclaim the upper eyelid area. Not a big deal.

@cookepuss: Good start. I think his head is not exaggerated enough. I know that you're going for less of a pretty boy but I think the proportions are not there yet. I think the relationship between his forehead and his mouth area need some love.
Yeah. I was thinking about that. The length of the mouth did seem a bit short to me. I'm kinda straddling a fine line, atm. I don't want to push the exaggeration too far. I still want to keep the character relatively human. OTOH, I want to give him that almost pointy, crooked "Evil Witch" sort of design that Disney baddies have. I still have over a week to sort it all out.

Also, the back of his head may need some tweaking
Hadn't touched it at the time of that post.
